I was in Perth for a few weeks with the US Marines in the early 80's. I absolutely loved it, except for the flies. Wonderful people. After spending time in SE Asia it was like being home.

Good on ya Bud, we're even better on the SE coast, lol, still, I'm with ya on the flies, arguably worse than mozzies, and dont get me started on snakes and other critters. Cheers Duke.

Don't listen to the bloke from the se coast, they are well known snobs, Perth is the best and friendliest city in Australia, seeing as our cities aren't jam packed there is more of a sense of community. It's good to hear an overseas service man enjoying my home town, thank you for your service

@@Lawrie_2.0 G'day Lawrie, last time I was in Perth, it was friendly alright, mainly NZers trying to get as far away as they could, lol. But yep, seriously, I loved Perth and surrounds, as soon as I got off the plane I noticed how clean it was, and totally agree, far better environment with less bodies. I've moved out to the fringes over here for the exact same reasons. Oh yeah, when I was there, plenty of construction going on W to NW of Perth on the coast, up past Cottesloe/Swanbourne, is it still the case ? And also, I found the "dry heat" so much better than the "humid heat" in say Brisbane, (we get our fair share in Melb too). I was wandering around in trousers and collar/tie for work, (I wouldn't normally, and admittedly younger then lol), but I do remember being quite comfortable in mid to high thirties. Cheers Duke.

G'day Dan, a few hits and misses there mate, though glad the mains in particular held up for you. "French" Lamb Casserole; lotta folks chuck in powdered French onion soup and call it French, lol. Cant beat Cadbury choc IMO, but it does readily melt in the packet on a warm day. Could well be wrong, but his one looks to be a trade off for resilience, ..........or maybe it's just cheap, lol. Vegemite without butter/marg, is a sin, lol. I am sure all sorts of mix'n match goes on in the field; vegemite can be used in soups/casseroles, you could put bits of fruit/nut bar, M&Ms in the muesli, like a trail mix or use the protein drink instead of milk, perhaps another flavor by the sound of it, lol. Broken up steak slice in the lentil curry, (I expect would soften it up too with the heat). Some coffee powder or jam on a dessert, etc, etc, etc. Anyway, a fair appraisal mate, thanks for showing it. Cheers Duke. Btw; I haven't seen "Billy A" pop up recently, I dont tend to do facebook, instagram; any word from him your end ?

Everyone always thinks the chocolate has gone bad but it's specially made to not melt. It gets over 50c here in Australia so chocolate is made to handle it. I miss my ration packs but you wouldn't stay healthy on them if you weren't working hard to earn the sugars, salts and calories. Again designed for people working hard in hot weather.
@davestuddert4392 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. What the Poms also don't know is it's compressed cocoa. The fat content of regular chocolate would melt all through the rat pack in our hot Aussie environment

After 3 days on MREs, the toilet paper are just serviettes due to being so blocked up. 1 day is fine, 2 its a push hard, 3rd you will be begging for a laxative. That's why we always carried extra gum & people thought it was to look good. Too much gum has a laxative effect. We were just constipated.
