When you eat a product with dextrose, dextrose makes you "high", right? There's a spike of blood sugar, a spike in mood. This is why they add it, because in blind food tests, the testers express they like that food better, the one with dextrose. I have a hypothesis, a proposed explanation for a phenomenon, that the food with dextrose doesn't taste good, but the added dextrose tricks your tongue and brain to think it's tasty food. Because, why do they add dextrose?? It's not a "filler product" or "bulking product" and neither a "binder product". It's a mood elevator. An additive like dextrose can't be bought at the store, that should tell us something of it's nature. Dextrose is a plague on food, it's become really hard to find products without dextrose in Norway, and even meat has it now.

I just picked up a book from my library… Metabolical, The Lure and the Lies of Processed Food, Nutrition, and Modern Medicine by Robert Lustig. I can’t wait to make time to read this. Keto for close to 3 years. The longer I do this, the more I stay away from ANY product that says KETO on it. Real food and snacks I make at home with ingredients I can control. I do occasionally indulge in Lily’s because… chocolate 😉

Even the nutrition label on the back has misleading tricks and lies on it! Too many people see "KETO" on the front label and take it for granted that its keto friendly. I've found that most are not! You need to look at the total carbs per serving, and then check the serving size! sometimes it's ridiculously so small that no one would eat only that much per serving!

Dextrose= run! Run away, screaming. Same with maltodextrine, anything which may have corn... By the way, in English, before Americans began calling maize corn, all grains were corn (barley-corn). Therefore, I just leave them all at the store. Thank you for this! The worst isn't SweetnLow, it's maltodextrine. It's in everything "low carb". And it's way worse than dextrose for me.

@@86BarbOmega I will sign the petition! That crud has a glycemic index of 136- 36% higher than table sugar! It is used "medically" to force weight gain in underweight patients. It's also a corn derivative, so very cheap, what with government corn subsidies! It is for me an assured ambulance ride to the hospital, once they drag me out of the ravine, or climb 37 flights of stairs to get me from the widow's walk. Hopefully, I'm still alive, because by blood glucose begins the downward fall on the hypoglycemia rollercoaster within a few minutes of consuming this poison. But I have to have two bolts holding on my license plate, because the police have nothing better to do in town unless we eat that crud.

Then went back on the keto diet lifestyle and am making quick progress. He was skeptical that his way of cooking was what made it impossible for me to stay slim but when it affected my health in a dramatic way and then saw how much better I felt on keto, he's fully supportive.

I've been doing keto for a couple months and in the beginning it was very sad to learn almost anything packaged/ prepared, including meats, I couldn't eat T_T there is SUGAR. IN EVERYTHING. Just goes by different names and now I avoid anything with an ingredient ending in "ose" or "ol" except for erythritol because I haven't tried other sugar substitutes yet. I am a little sensitive to it unfortunately...things get a little too loose if you know what I mean lol I am very skinny with a very fast metabolism already so my biggest problem is loading up on calories!! As it going a bit more than skin deep now...Can I trouble you and ask about trehalose? is this more of a sugar or a ketone? Also found the crystal version of the sweetner "Stevia" although its listed as having only 0 .03 sugars is loaded with 55% maltodextrin...! I'm thinking this is not really suitable for diabetics it could be a theme for a new video 'traps for the unware" perhaps... What do you think? Thanks

I think it is useful for some during the keto diet to drink fruit-flavored water, so pieces of fruit can be placed in the water, so that the water acquires its taste, to ensure that you do not get a large number of net carbohydrates in it.

I can understand avoiding all those simple carbohydrates and so on, BUT telling people to not eat fruits, even if most of them will cause a spike, I think the nutritional value is well needed and yes a keto diet is good in general, it is very difficult to maintain for long periods of time, so fruits will make thing “easier” while you eat something nutritious, everything else on those lists are pretty much worthless in terms of nutritional value.

I consider 50 and below to be low carb and 20 and below to be keto. Of course I kept mine under 20 and still rarely reached ketosis, so I guess I'm a tough case. I then went carnivore, eating high protein and high fat, no carbs but what's in eggs, and now I'm always in ketosis.

I guess I don't quite understand about the tapioca. While I have heard that tapioca is high in carbohydrates, there is a product that I get called Skinny, and it is made with tapioca. The nutrition label clearly shows that it is keto friendly and that the carbohydrates are not high when you subtract the fiber. So I guess my question is, how can this be where they can make a nutrition label not accurate? Is that even possible? I always thought that what's on the nutrition label is what it says and because they are backed by the FDA, they can't lie about the ingredients. Please help me to understand why this particular product would not be healthy?

I have been wondering about this for quite some time now, as even organic lunchmeat / cold cut / sausages from renowned organic brands usually contain 0.5 to 1.0 Maltodextrin and/or Dextrose. So far, it has been my understanding that these comparatively small amounts shouldn't be much of an issue as long as you're crlearly staying in the low carb range (20 - 30 g a day). Is this assumption correct or do these sugars feature any other negative adverse effects I'm not aware of?

Do pork rinds have dextrose?
@Drberg
@Drberg 3 ай бұрын
Read the label of the pork rinds you buy. Make sure they’re of higher quality. I recommend the ones from a company called US Wellness Meats. Their pork rinds contain only sea salt, and their pigs are basically free-range.

Just look for "grass fed / grass finished" They usually use no sugar in those. But always read the lable anyway.

Hi folks... This is about UK products, not sure how it applies to USA brands... As a keto-newbie ( 1 month, 26 lbs off) and type 2 diabetic, I've been exploring what I can or can't get away with, and this has recently happened. To satisy my sweet tooth, I gave Stevia a try... Stevia Leaf granules by Pure Via, bought in Morrisons about 2 weeks ago, seems to fill the need quite nicely. No side-effects or downside. Because I'm a mobile techie, moving from site/call to site/call, I thought it might be convenient to carry some Lemon and Ginger tea-bags and sweetener in my van... that was a week ago, and I picked up some Morrisons brand 'Stevia-based' sweeteners.... Not really knowing the score, I didn't really check the ingredients.... it said 'Stevia'... so there you go. This last week a lot of my pre-keto problems have come back... my itchy eyes and skin, general feeling of heaviness, etc. Checked the ingredients today.... 'Dextrose (Sweetener) .... 25%. Guess thats going straight in the bin when I get home. So be warned.... always check ingredients, and even if it doesn't seem to contain anything nasty, if you start feeling the way you did pre-Keto, ditch it. Regards, Paul.
