Our founder, Chrissi, talks to Dr Do-Yeon Cho, Associate Professor at the University of Alabama about how his latest research into the use of Gabapentin to improve the symptoms of parosmia after a Covid-19 infection.
The NHS website states that "Gabapentin is used to treat epilepsy. It's also taken for nerve pain, which can be caused by different conditions, including diabetes and shingles. Nerve pain can also happen after an injury. In epilepsy, it's thought that gabapentin stops seizures by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain. With nerve pain, it's thought to block pain by affecting the pain messages travelling through the brain and down the spine."
Patients with parosmia typically smell foul or rotten odours, and this condition can have a significant impact on their lives, both emotionally and physically.
We have many videos of support in our Parosmia playlist on this channel.
