There's no uniformity or agreement on how to use these. Even with sprays. Just saw a doc who said the spray won't be effective at all on the nasal wall. It's frustrating

Exactly! I bought a nasal spray about 3 days ago, used it expected results, didn’t work so I went online, I tried all of these doctors each of them saying completely different things, and I used up the whole bottle(had 100 pumps in it) in a day, with no results, no relief, and I was just so annoyed, I was hoping to get some PROPER sleep since I haven’t had one for about 3 days. Now I bought a nasal Drop incase I experience this nightmare again.

The only thing the kind of works were nasal sticks, they don’t relief you of the congestion but rather makes it feel like your breathing from both nostrils I recommend it if your experiencing problem in breathing rather than the congestion.

It’s been 3 1/2 years, and my taste is probably back about 50%. Things never taste normal or delicious, but I can recognize most foods. Some are still really disgusting, like raw onion, chocolate, strawberries, peanuts, etc. I have smell trained three times a day for the past 3.5 years, and it hasn’t been particularly effective. I feel like giving up most days.. Hoping others experience with parosmia is not as lengthy as mine. Hate that it exists in this world.

I'm now 18 months into my parosmia. many things have improved or even returned to their normal smell or taste in the last 6 months or so (including cooked tomatoes, some types of onions, garlic, coffee, and chicken. lemons have improved but still don't taste good enough to eat, and I used to love them) garlic and coffee returned to normal within a week of each other, and I've had so much coffee since then it's probably unhealthy, but I missed it so much. honestly this has been one of the hardest things I've ever gone through simply because it's lasted so long, a true test of endurance. but I'm starting to feel a little bit better about it. Hopefully another six months and it'll be gone completely.

O.K. What about me? My husband and I had COVID March 2020. My husband died, at home. Whilst I sailed through it whilst caring for him. But I lost my sense of smell and taste. I immediately sent for the pack of jars with essential oils, for sniffing training. Did it for 4 months without anything and gave up. I once got a first whiff of crushed mint plant but only the once. I have more or less accepted it but would be interested to know what the chances are for me after 3 years now.

After I got COVID in December 2021, all smells were replaced with what I called a "uni-smell" - EVERYTHING smelled like burnt cooking oil. I'm still dealing with this today. Gradually, some smells (and tastes) are randomly returning but it's extremely frustrating. Also, a nostril will randomly pour nasal fluid like water for a moment. Very, very strange.

This sounds like you may have parosmia, which is actually usually a sign of recovery. Have a look here for more information: abscent.org/about-smell-loss/parosmia or watch some more of our videos under our 'parosmia' playlist on this channel.

I have been using the oils for a long time. I have days that I smell and taste everything and then days that I can't smell anything. Is this normal? I faithfully use the oils every morning. Also, when I can't smell, I can't get the full taste of what I am eating. I never had Covid, I do have sinusitis. Anything else you can tell me to do, I would appreciate. Thank you

Manuka honey put up the nostrils and definitely include the very tip of the nostrils as in the tip of the nose but inside the nose, will heal the nose. I have suffered for 5 years with smelling smoke all the time, and musty smells that no one but me can smell. It’s horrible! I tried moisturising the nostrils with moisturiser and using menthol just outside the nostrils ( don’t put that up the nose) and using antibiotic cream from the GP, plus salt water sprays and neti bottle procedures to no avail. But in desperation l am now using Manuka honey, just slightly watered down with previously boiled water cooled. Initially my nose bled but it’s lessening the smell of smoke by 80% and l am hoping it will cure the condition. I think now that the condition is triggered by an infection of the nostril tissue which is difficult to cure. I think the fact that the Manuka honey is lessening the severity of the condition, that must point to an infection of the nostrils.

Lost my smell now a year since I had covid once. I guess I have parosmia and anosmia. It fluctuates greatly. Sometimes I can suddenly smell things that I haven’t smelled for a long time but only to loose it again. Taste is also altered. All numbed up, can’t eat garlic or chicken anymore because it tastes like plastic. When I had covid November 2021 I had a terrible headache on the top of my nose and inside my forehead. I never have headaches. But this headache follows me on and off every day a little since then. I can’t smell coffee and my cooking. Appetite is poor but I still make sure I eat enough. I haven’t visited an ENT just because I live abroad now and just worried to face that they can’t help me. I am doing smell training but all the essential oils don’t smell like anything. So I am not really motivated but I will try to stay on the ball because my smell impairment is really bothersome now. Yes, I also have a smell that I smell all day, such as vinegar. I once in despair did a steam bath for my sinus (no sinus issue but was hoping it could help with the smell issue) with apple cider and warm water mix since then I carry the vinegar smell with me.
