Can Faye's Soul Be Inside The Leviathan Axe?

A favorite fan theory from the days of God of War 2018 was Faye's soul living inside the Leviathan Axe. Everything seemed to point toward it being correct, but when God of War Ragnarok there was no mention of this topic.
Is it possible it isn't canon anymore? or was it even canon to begin with?

I'm gonna be honest if they do have Atreus put Faye soul in the leviathan axe or learn that Faye soul is in the leviathan axe after Kratos gives it to him while a nice sentimental moment but just wouldn't feel right outside the Norse God of War games especially without Kratos being there alongside Atreus. Part of me is still sad we didn't get a trilogy of Norse God of War games at least.

It’s definitely possible the axe started fighting on its own during the alfheim section, like for example there’s the move where if you aim and hold R1 then throw, the axe will continue to spin hitting the enemy by its self, or the runic in Ragnarok, where you can mark different targets kinda like deadeye in red dead lol, and it will by its self go and attack each enemy that was marked, so ya technically the axe has the power to fight on its own just like Ingrid and the hammer.

I see a major flaw in this theory. If a soul is in a weapon, other people can notice it. For example: Angrboda notices Fenrir’s souls in Atreus’s knife. If Faye’s souls was in the Axe, I’m sure Atreus would hear it, just like in Alfheim.

theory: In the beginning when Atreus accidentally used a spell to put Fenrir’s soul into his knife, I never really understood how he even knew the spell or would think of a spell in the first place. Even if he did it on accident. What if as Faye was dying, she said the spell quietly to put her soul into the ax and Atreus heard it, but didn’t realize what it was. As in he thought that that was just something Norse people said for dying loved ones and so he said the spell when Fenrir was dying.

If they still want to stick to the lore, I feel having 2018 feel when all equipments are maxed is an option they could go. There is no way Faye's soul is in the axe. 1st - she is wielding the ax in the final mural (2018) + she had fought Thor in the valley. The axe had the same power because Thor said "this feels familiar" in the beginning of ragnarok. 2nd If Faye's has given a part of her soul for the axe, she would not be complete (as Brok). After her death should would not be in the alfheim light. There is definitely a soul in the axe, and I think it is a Frost Giant's soul. Which Atreus will try to retreive the giant in the next game. And the axe will be just a simple axe, a symbol of Faye.

both of those events took place after her death. thor felt familiar because his battle with faye caused lightning to freeze as well, and broks soul is incomplete because sindri broke some rules and got his soul out of the light.

All I wanted to say is I think it is not probable that Faye is wielding the leviathan axe (while she was still alive) and her soul is in the leviathan axe at the same time. My theory is that the Leviathan's powers (frost, coming back) is tied to a soul within the axe, which was put in when the axe was made for Faye.

@@GreenBull3t its not confirmed if the axe did come back for faye, which is likely true because giant magic can only manipulate dead souls. there was no part of her soul inside the axe when she was alive. ill elaborate: the final mural scene where faye holds the axe is after her death. she fought thor once before her death, this same battle created much destruction as shown in a side mission in ragnarok, which is where thor and faye froze a lightning bolt for the first time ever. the second time a lightning bolt was frozen it was with kratos, which thor somewhat recognized because of his drunken state in the first fight. brok had once died. all his soul parts had reached the light of alfheim. sindri cheated and brought 3 of his 4 soul bits back. these 3 bits were banished from alfheim thereafter, which means that brok would never see an afterlife, no valhalla, no alfheim , no hel, hes dead forever. faye on the other hand, its theorized that one or more parts of her soul sit inside the leviathan axe, the rest are well inside alfheim. that once soul part was not retrieved illegally , it simply never made it to the light.

I am talking about the 1st part of the mural at the end of GOW 2018. In the mural Faye is arguing with the giants while holding the axe. How can this happen after her death? The mural was made while giants were still alive, long time before Faye met Kratos.

It seems possible you could say that those dreams/vision of Faye he had were when he was in proximity of the axe but he always is (But I always thought the axe came back to Kratos's hand because of a rune magic thing like the same type Freya put on Kratos and Atreus in God of War 2018 but this time Faye put on his hand sometime prior to her death or the moment she gave it to Kratos or the more simpler theory is it's same magic Brök & Sindri put on Mjolnir to allow Thör to call it back or move it then put the exact same thing on Leviathan to Combat Mjolnir to level the playing feild) Wich imo seems more likely Still very interesting about the Giants/Jötnar's experience in Soul manipulation and could be how Faye can seemingly communicate from the dead

Ill be honest. Thrüd getting the hammer is cool and all, but, Kratos should have taken it and given the axe to Atreus. They're similar enough that it wouldnt change gameplay too much. And it would make the axe an appropriate family heirloom, as opposed to the blades. Plus it would give Atreus a much needed actual melee weapon. Just my thoughts.

Yeah as much as I wanna believe this theory it’s just too far of a jump and not enough evidence to say it’s plausible. And as little time they did have to try to explain as much as they could in ragnarok, that would make the alfheim scene just be useless. Because the people and gods know what happens to the souls that go into the light, kratos didn’t know yet and when he did… he had to come to terms with it. Accepting and letting go because it’s okay too. He still loves Faye but he had to accept her death. This whole soul in the axe would make that pointless. Plus many people said this already but angrboda would’ve said something when she gave kratos that mural or even before as an offhand comment without knowing the full context like with Atreus. If it’s anybody’s soul it would have to be greece. And there’s only like three I can think of Hercules, Hephaestus, and Cronos. Or maybe all three. Like the axes strength comes from Hercules, he can upgrade the axe again and again even if crazy magic returns it to base stats all Hephaestus, and where tf did kratos learn how to realm shift I’ll tell you dammit it came from cronos the lord of time himself

That point that the dwarves are not surprised about how Leviathan returns to Kratos is actually really good. Also, Mjölnir returns to Thor, but i don't think it's because of some soul either, it's an intentional Huldra design for sure. Faye's soul still can be in the axe though, i just don't think that is indeed the reason why it returns to Kratos.

There's a scene in Ragnarok where Kratos looks at his axe before exiting the tent. This was after he spoke to Faye in his dream. And for some reason SMS added Brok and Sindri lines about faye which did not made sense or connect with. If this was the first time we saw faye then it would've made perfect sense.

Except why wouldn't he sense the fragment of her soul in anything later on, after getting quite good at soul manipulation? I don't think Faye's soul is not should be anywhere near where Atreus has been after he learned that. If we want at least part of it to not be in the Light, fine. The writers can make that happen easily enough. But where is it? Should be a place at least Atreus hasn't been around recently. Also, who put it there? I'm assuming Faye couldn't put her own soul in anything, especially in part. So we'd need at least 1 secret surviving Jötunn. But that really wouldn't be hard to add. But honestly, why? I don't see this adding anything of value to the story.

What i find odd about faye being the axe is lets say when we visit Fenrir and Angrbota in Jotunhiem why does she not say anything about the axe that clearly on Kratos back i mean she knew there was a soul in Atreus Knife She didnt seem scared to see a real big boy that being Fenrir in garn body so shes a bit of an expert of souls

I think there is a chance that the soul in the axe is actually Hel, the woman that brought Kratos to the Norse Mythology. She would have the mission to bring Kratos to the Norse mythology using time and realms travel, going to Egypt in the time we see in the comics, after that, she would make Kratos meet Faye and lock her own soul into the axe until the moment Atreus would make her free in a gigant's body to rule Helheim. After some time, she would see a "secret" space opening from the giant wolf of Helheim (the original owner of Fenrir's body, I forgot its name) and would see a reality where Kratos didn't meet Faye and Chaos or something and then she would go back in time and make this loop. It's something I just thought so it can be a little crazy and with few lore basis, but I had to write it somewhere, hope you guys enjoyed.

I think one thing is important to mention. Since Faye was the previous owner of the axe, we can assume that Faye was also able to call back the axe. Since the Axe was made to counter Mjölnir, I believe Brok and Sinri just imbued both weapons with the call back ability. If the reason the axe comes back to Kratos is because of a soul from his past, then this same reason could be assumed to why Mjölnir returns to Thor.

If the axe has her soul, why does it not fight like the sword? I don't buy that this was the intended explanation. It's simply enchanted to return when thrown. Mjölnir does the same in ALL versions I believe. (Meaning Marvel comics, MCU, original myth, these games, other stories with Thor. ALL versions. I have never ONCE seen it not return unless STOPPED by Hulk or something. But it's always CAPABLE of being called back, at least.) I wouldn't mind some or all of Faye's soul being somewhere other than the Light or axe... but I don't think they should make this the explanation. Like you said, Brok and Sindri would be surprised, right? Also, who put it in the axe? Isn't it a GIANT ability to manipulate souls? Atreus/Loki has it because he's at least part Jötunn? Faye, in theory, couldn't do it herself. Angrbodr didn't seem able to do it. Supposedly all the other giants were dead? It doesn't make sense. Making it canon, while possibly kinda some cool fan service or whatever, would also basically introduce a big plot hole or at least logical inconsistency. Now, technically it could be explained somehow... the easiest way being at least one other giant surviving in secret and being the one who did it... but when? Unless we get a Faye prequel (which honestly might be best as like a $30-$40 mini-game. Or even $20. Something along the lines of Witcher 3 Blood & Wine in scope, roughly)... I just don't think it's a great idea. It would technically be a retcon, and while not all retroactive continuity is bad... I think it kinda opens up too large a can of worms to be introduced going forward. If we get a future game, focused on the "present/future" rather than a prequel, I think we should just look forward with things. Although, honestly, I support more God Of War. I'll take a Faye prequel. I'll take a Kratos game. I'll take an Atreus spin-off. Though, I don't think the Faye nor Atreus games should be called "God Of War" whatever, unless they're given specific subs titles like, "God Of War: Faye's Story." Or God Of War: Loki's Journey." Or something, because Kratos is the GOW, and it was made VERY clear that basically nobody wants Atreus to follow in Kratos's footsteps entirely. He's not the next God Of War. Even though Tyr clearly shows the GOW can attain enlightenment or whatever... I just don't think it's the right title for Atreus. Especially since Loki is the Trickster God. But also because of his journey so far and everything. Also, despite Faye very clearly being a warrior, and seemingly also having a temper in the past... She's not even a God. But the games probably won't sell without God Of War being slapped on somewhere. Hell, even something like, "Faye, Jötunn: a God Of War story" might work... though I think there's clear evidence that putting God Of War first will simply sell way better. It's probably just my Asperger's Syndrome, but I want some clear distinction. If the next game is simply called God Of War 6 or something and the synopsis is like, "Follow Atreus on his journey..." I probably won't buy it, because he's not the GOW and that would irritate me. But if they just have simple subtitles and clear distinction, problem solved.

@@KaptainKuba well that doesn't really hurt but I kind of felt like it had to do with me but I think that if they make a new game about Kratos there would be a scene where the axe just goes away from Kratos for no reason like at the end and Kratos can only use the blades of chaos for that period and when they make an atreus game we will know that the axe actually traveled to atreus and we get to use the axe as atreus and tbh that kind of thing will happen probably in 2026 or 2028
