For 200k bro you can’t really complain I’ve seen cars with 80k in a lot worse condition all just matters on previous owners with no expense spared there should be no problems just keep on top of most things it’ll do you easy another 50k hopefully with no serious issues they’re pretty well built cars from factory apart from rust n some oil leaks but same with every car bro

that is common. VW doesn't hold on to parts for very long for discontinued platforms. Ask anyone that had a Corrado in the 90's. Almost everything was NLA before the 90's ended and the Corrados production run ended in 95.

I've got an 08 GLI, same FSI engine, 220k mi, original clutch. I had the boost hose leaks too (replaced them with Forge silicone ones). My oil leak was from the gasket at the oil cooler/oil filter housing. PCV/thermostat failed once before 100k. I replaced the PCV again before 200k for preventative maintenance. Car does burns 1 quart ever 1000 miles, which I suspect led to the cat being completely clogged (had to get it replaced as there was low boost/misfires/barely ran/then died completely). Other than that, regular oil changes, air/fuel filters, spark plus/coils, and timing belt/water pump service. Brake pads have only been replaced once as they seem to last forever.
@ryan_layne
@ryan_layne 5 жыл бұрын
If you get the right blockoff plate for the PCV it isn't actually a blockoff plate. It actually just redirects everything through to the rear PCV hose, so it still breathes. The front PCV is only used at idle, anyways. So don't be afraid to block it off.. or "redirect it" to the rear.

Since I have had it, it has had, full inspection. New radiator. Diverter valve, PCV, cam follower and pick up pipe. New turbo pipe. Tensioner and belt. 2 oil changes. Suspension bushes, discs and pads. Charcoal canister. Plus lots more. Stands me at about 4.5k now. Is on 130k miles now and drives sweetly. I am getting another water pump and cam belt on shortly. Also going to put some NGK Iridium X spark plugs in. I am getting it ready for a remap at R Tech in Nuneaton at some point this year. I am the same as you. My mk6 gti has 129k. And it always brings me down that it's got such a high mileage for its age, but I enjoy it alot. Under neath has little to no rust, suspesnion looks very clean, I put in new head gasket, exhaust and intake gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pump gasket, fuel injectors, spark plugs and coils, oil change before it's even near due, coolant flushed, full timing kit changed. And some mods I've done like cold air intake, cat back exhaust, Cobb AP, stage 2 clutch kit, gfb dv. So idk I think mileage is TECHNICALLY low.

@OverlandTT
@OverlandTT 5 жыл бұрын
Simon Gibbs Hi Simon, back in 2004 my C320 was three when I bought it. I was split between that and the CLK as that was my first test drive. Except oil changes the only two things that went wrong were rear springs (due to terrible British roads) and the Mass Air Flow sensor, BUT that went bad because I had over oiled my K&N filters. Bought a Bosch (non mb branded as they use Bosch also) with an OBD reader all in cost me £300. Saved £700 compared to dealership. Other than that - it was truly excellent with her napa leather seats which had. I wear and no crumples at that mileage. It was fantastic, so much so my girly is wanting to replace her newer Jeep for an older C320 waggon so she can take the dogs out. Edit: if you want any other info mate, just message me.

great video and great VW tech, his knowledge is commendable, what year is this GTI please. High mileage cars VW's and Volvos. I've driven Volvos since 1981 and sold many other cars aside from them. VW and Volvo are the only ones, even over Japanese cars. My current Volvo 240 has 300k on it and still runs great and i daily the car with our winters in Manitoba Canada average temp -25 Celsius 60 miles a day about 27 mpg, I am looking to get a replacement for my Volvo and the GTI is one i really like, your car here being a MK5 GTI is double the price you paid for it. Your year seems to be better built than the MK6, here they are nothing but warranty freaking problems, almost weekly talking to some owners. Let me know the year of your MK5 Gti.

Loving this series! next time you're at that VW dealer can you ask them about the cam chain and tensioner? (like how to tell if it needs doing etc.)
@Joutenshi
@Joutenshi 5 жыл бұрын
g s can chain and tensioner is a definite item on the to do list with any FSI engine however usually they will present themselves with a top end rattle on start up giving you a heads up that something may not be right, if in doubt book in for a health check and we can advise you on condition or at least put your mind at ease.

Looks good underneath for its age. Bit of rust proofing to keep it good should last a long time. Something like Krown rust proofing give a good guarantee and the look shiney when done.

Holy shit, the amount of times the guy states "with the age of this vehicle" , like the thing is 25 years old or something. My Celica is WAY older and its springs have NEVER been replaced and the exhaust has only just been replaced. It's astounding to me how VW drivers view the replacing of parts as regular maintenance......

I think you can go OTT with polly bushes, I had a s2 rs turbo which I replaced every bush with powerflex bushes and it made it a hard ride felt every bump also had a lot of vibrations, worth doing some but not all. Other than that great guy to share his inspection and be so honest 👍🏼

I took an air lowered mk4 tdi into my main dealer, it had no roll bar to allow for the drop, i told them I think the anti roll bar feels a bit soft and loose, they said the anti roll bar is fine after inspection lool.

ALK (Anti Lift Kit) is nothing to do with lift off oversteer, which these cars don't really do anyway. It's anti lift (like anti dive) refers to suspension geometry. The ALK kits provide more caster, anti lift properties to help traction. These rear wishbone bushes do wear a lot, I've changed them a couple of times on my same-chassis A3 and finally got an Superpro ALK kit. Steering feels a bit nicer weighted and centred due to the caster (which was originally a weak point of the car).

Is the pcv valve the same thing as a divertor valve? If so would you not recommend changing it for a forge BOV?
@Joutenshi
@Joutenshi 5 жыл бұрын
WhoTookBen The PCV valve or positive crankcase ventilation valve is used to control crankcase pressure and allows these gases to be harmlessly burnt off in the inlet rather than venting to atmosphere. A BOV is a blow of valve which allows unwanted manifold pressure to be vented to atmosphere on throttle shut off to prevent compressor stall, which is a whole other topic. Personally I would advise sticking to recirculating valve for VW range vehicles, they’re designed to work this way and BOV’s can cause headaches with sophisticated engine management systems.
