I've got an 08 GLI, same FSI engine, 220k mi, original clutch. I had the boost hose leaks too (replaced them with Forge silicone ones). My oil leak was from the gasket at the oil cooler/oil filter housing. PCV/thermostat failed once before 100k. I replaced the PCV again before 200k for preventative maintenance. Car does burns 1 quart ever 1000 miles, which I suspect led to the cat being completely clogged (had to get it replaced as there was low boost/misfires/barely ran/then died completely). Other than that, regular oil changes, air/fuel filters, spark plus/coils, and timing belt/water pump service. Brake pads have only been replaced once as they seem to last forever.
@ryan_layne5 жыл бұрын
If you get the right blockoff plate for the PCV it isn't actually a blockoff plate. It actually just redirects everything through to the rear PCV hose, so it still breathes. The front PCV is only used at idle, anyways. So don't be afraid to block it off.. or "redirect it" to the rear.

Since I have had it, it has had, full inspection. New radiator. Diverter valve, PCV, cam follower and pick up pipe. New turbo pipe. Tensioner and belt. 2 oil changes. Suspension bushes, discs and pads. Charcoal canister. Plus lots more. Stands me at about 4.5k now. Is on 130k miles now and drives sweetly. I am getting another water pump and cam belt on shortly. Also going to put some NGK Iridium X spark plugs in. I am getting it ready for a remap at R Tech in Nuneaton at some point this year. I am the same as you. Simon Gibbs Hi Simon, back in 2004 my C320 was three when I bought it. I was split between that and the CLK as that was my first test drive. Except oil changes the only two things that went wrong were rear springs (due to terrible British roads) and the Mass Air Flow sensor, BUT that went bad because I had over oiled my K&N filters. Bought a Bosch (non mb branded as they use Bosch also) with an OBD reader all in cost me £300. Saved £700 compared to dealership. Other than that - it was truly excellent with her napa leather seats which had. I wear and no crumples at that mileage. It was fantastic, so much so my girly is wanting to replace her newer Jeep for an older C320 waggon so she can take the dogs out. Edit: if you want any other info mate, just message me.

ALK (Anti Lift Kit) is nothing to do with lift off oversteer, which these cars don't really do anyway. It's anti lift (like anti dive) refers to suspension geometry. The ALK kits provide more caster, anti lift properties to help traction. These rear wishbone bushes do wear a lot, I've changed them a couple of times on my same-chassis A3 and finally got an Superpro ALK kit. Steering feels a bit nicer weighted and centred due to the caster (which was originally a weak point of the car).
@whotookben5 жыл бұрын
Is the pcv valve the same thing as a divertor valve? If so would you not recommend changing it for a forge BOV?
@Joutenshi5 жыл бұрын
WhoTookBen The PCV valve or positive crankcase ventilation valve is used to control crankcase pressure and allows these gases to be harmlessly burnt off in the inlet rather than venting to atmosphere. A BOV is a blow of valve which allows unwanted manifold pressure to be vented to atmosphere on throttle shut off to prevent compressor stall, which is a whole other topic. Personally I would advise sticking to recirculating valve for VW range vehicles, they’re designed to work this way and BOV’s can cause headaches with sophisticated engine management systems.
