Another source of big cable is jump leads. They can be bought in a number of grades and are pretty cheap. It’s also red and black 😊. Enjoying your build.

Having worked with plywood/plyboard's for some time, I wish to offer you a little tip for cutting to avoid the chipping as the blade cuts through it. Mark out the cut, then score it with a sharp blade this will stop 99% of the chipping, and also try to cut from the reverse side as the blade runs cleaner through the timber too.

The sink is very nice. I would router out the edge off the sink so that it is flush with the counter top. Makes cleaning a lot easier ( you can wipe the crums directly in the sink).

Not too sure how would the sink stay in place if we remove the edges? We like the look like this. We have a top mount sink in our Unimog and it never bothered us for cleaning. Thanks a lot for watching :)

I’ve had trucks, cars and 4x4 throw rocks up and had them hit my car. It’s not the velocity of the stone bing thrown at your windscreen that breaks it, it’s how fast YOU are travelling that can break your screen. Most modern laminated screens will chip, not shatter like the old ‘safety’ screens used to.

Maybe an idea you can use, the bamboe cut out from the sink, you can turn it to a cutting bord, that saves your counter top from cuts, and if it fits into the sink with to handels, so you can take it out when you want to use the sink, an put back it in when not in use and have a nice flat counter top…

It doesn't really work for top mount sink installation and this style of faucet though. We also love the look of the sink so we don't want to hide it. Having it "opened" also means it can dry as we drive as opposed to trap moisture underneath. We also have two huge countertops so we have plenty of space already. Thanks for watching :)

Chris, for your rubber flairs. Radius the corner as well. I had the rubber flairs on my old 4Runner and the square cutoff annoyed me to no end. Once I rounded the corners it changed the whole look ( for the better) cheers Chris

You are correct about ATs picking up rocks and aggressive MTs not picking up rocks. My BFG ATs chucked rocks BAD, my Super Swamper TSLs do not, EVER. ATs also throw rooster tails like a hydroplane in the rain while muds barely throw any spray at all.

Another option for HWS is diesel heater which can also be used to heat the space.

I drive semi-truck in the USA. I have had a semi-truck, with off road (semi-truck) tires, throw a rock through my windshield. I don't have the photo anymore, pre smart phone, but the rock was 50% in and 50% out of the window. I agree that most of the rocks I see are from street tires.. or thrown by children from an overpass. I know a guy what ended up with a brick in his windshield thrown from an overpass.

The water heater. You prob already know but more for the newbies. Running it at 55-60 deg C is plenty. It will kill nearly all the nasties in the water like legionaries. At this temp you’re still going to have to add some cold before putting your hands in the basin. Olights?? I may have one or two myself

I learn't the hard way not to travel too close to trucks with double wheels after a crude roadwork when a 5cm rock that stuck between the double tires got thrown when the speed increased on the tarmac. But I can't say anything on those offroad tires as they aren't that frequent here in Sweden.

Absolutely have had muddies flick some boulders up and smash my windscreens. 3 times over the years. The first 2 were the worst, guy cut out in front of me and floored it flicking a rock up. Got it repaired and a couple of days after the new new windscreen went in another 4wd flew out of a dirt track and onto the road in front of me and did the same thing 🤦‍♂️ both of them had obscenely big tyres 😅

Like your build, but my favourite Channel is @itsJackandMegan . Also agree with your tyre theory. I think most damage is done with stones being ejected sideways, at least on tarmac. Got one to the knee once from a passing car 🙈

We have got the MPPT too in the Mog and love it, we got up to 75 amp while driving but we have 900w of solar. With the Volvo we will "only" have 500w and we don't think the European sun will be as "effective" so that's why we are sticking with only the DC/DC at this stage and see how we go. We can increase the DC/DC to get 50 amp when we drive. Thanks for watching :)

Just be aware the IP44 is not ideal for what I'll be exposed to witnin that space mate. Look up the specs and the environment inside the wheel arch will see rocks and water from adverse weather and gravel roads that'll well and truly push the limits of IP44. You've committed to it now with the hole being cut, so maybe look into an additional cover with a more suitable rating

They did a study on stone chips on the windscreen here in Sweden , and of course the size of the rock matter however it’s the speed of the car that gets hit that is the biggest factor of cracked/ chipped windscreens when hit by a stone chip when driving. The faster you’re driving when you get hit the greater risk of chipped/ broken windows. Boring, but true.

Fully understandable. And the B30 is a good engine, more or less bullet proof and runs very smoothly although a bit more torque would have been useful. The latest version of the B30 were fuel injected rather than carburetted, perhaps an alternative? At least an easier swap.

We had a tandem tipper truck pull out off the site a stone flicked out and smashed another trucks window behind it , yer mud flaps are the go the bigger the better , gee one day i l pulled out off the site a stone flicked off my tyre and hit the porta loo hit it bad i bet anyone inside would had shit themselves 😂 truck tyres are the same as yours big tred

Sometimes there will be too much wind in the America's at that time you wouldn't be able deploy your popup , so I was wondering how you two are going to sleep inside during those times, you might also have to do stealth camping sometimes in urban areas to create less attention, the space inside is too narrow and tight.

Hi Chris, fellow Aussie here 👋My husband is building a hybrid campervan from scratch - give me strength! Really not sure when I agreed to it but it’s too late to back out now 😅 He has been following your build and has given me the task of finding the right angle sink connection as shown in your video (90mm). So, after looking online to no avail (no 90mm) I thought of something that goes against every bone in his body - I suggested we ask for help (ie directions)!? Hence my long rather-winded comment to simply ask, could you please share your supplier for the 90degree 90mm sink connection with us? 🙏

32:32 curiosity, does the spout part of that faucet rotate so when you pull it forward towards you you can rotate it or is it gonna always be a fixed outlet position

Would it not be a good idea to put a’stone guard screen’ in the front of your vehicle to protect your own front windscreen? As you will be travelling more distances than the average person you are at greater risk / exposure of a broken windscreen? Consider what the long distance trucks have in Australia? Miniature size for your vehicle. Just a thought 💭 Flat glass like your front will quickly reveal if this is needed. 🤷‍♂️

Does that waterheater needs to be a certain side up? The temp issue is keeping it safe for kids and at the same time hot enough to eliminate the risk of Legionella bacteria from growing in the system.

These units are used a lot on boats and rarely, if ever, cause any issues. The inside (as well as the outside) is all stainless steel. I have had mine for 20 years, same make as that used in the Volvo.

I really love these videos, but they are so incredibly hard to watch with the hugely echo-y garage, making it very uncomfortable. Could you maybe record things (like the talk from 34:35) that don't need it as a backdrop somewhere else? Even outside would be fine. And yes I'm aware you can't reasonably dampen the sound in the garage. It's fine for things that clearly need to happen in there, of course.
