In Los Angeles, a lot of of working homeless people (employed but do not earn enough income to rent an apartment) live in their cars, vans, or RV’s and they shower at the gym. Many go to Planet Fitness to use the bathroom, use the free WiFi and shower. They don’t even work out and if there is free parking for members and the gym is 24/7 then they park their cars and sleep overnight and leave for work in the morning.

I think it's important to recognize that people who prefer at home gyms and or that state that gyms are "pointless" or a "waste of money" are either people who have the money and resources to buy adequate gym equipment, are people who know how to work out and get the results they want, or frankly don't know anything about fitness and state that running outside is enough for exercise...People who are new to working out, people who NEED to workout for health reasons, can definitely benefit from going to a traditional gym, working with competent personal trainer and nutrition coach, or working in a group fitness environment to get that motivation and excitement to workout. Furthermore, going to a traditional gym and being surrounded by others can give people the supervision and advise on how to properly perform certain exercises. When you workout at home or by yourself you can definitely believe you are performing exercise correctly.... until you watch yourself on a video and see that your form is completely off, until you start feeling pain in areas you didn't have before because you had terrible biomechanics, until you spend months to years "working out" at home and seeing no or even worse results than in the gym. In the gym and by working out with fitness professionals you get experience and accountability. When you workout on your own, at home, without supervision, you are on your own..... Again working out at home can definitely be an option for someone with the experience and resources but it's not for everyone..... Furthermore, many people who say that the gym is just a breeding ground for covid..... you are half true. If you walk into the gym and there is no social distancing, no mask and everyone acting as if we were not in a pandemic, then you walk right out and get yourself to safety.. But for many gyms, many local and smaller gyms, there are enforced regulations, people on the floor making sure there are masks and social distancing, and a cleaning crew working tirelessly to clean more than ever. In many gyms they even section off with occupancy limits of 5/6 people per area. In some gyms, even spotting is not allowed or discouraged. Some gyms are still exclusively outside. Point is that many gyms are trying their best to combat covid while still staying in business. I just can not stand when people want to blanket statement all gyms as breeding grounds for COVID... but have not seen that many honest, and struggling gyms are creating a more cleaner and safer atmosphere than some of your local grocery/ convenient stores that have not been forced to shut down...

Better and smarter management can save them. If the management uses the old ways they will fail. Planet Fitness needs to serve the community in which they do business in rather than a corporate entity.

I belong to Planet Fitness and love it. I was so tired of the macho-man types that were always lurking around 24-Hour Fitness, hogging the machines. PF is clean, has plenty of machines, and a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. I steered clear last winter, as I usually do during the flu season. But then COVID hit. Even when they partially opened this fall, I've stayed away since I'm in a high-risk age group. Plus I notice they're allowing people to work out without masks on. Due to the fact that I've lost my motivation this year, I may or may not return. But I still can't recommend them highly enough. It's a fun, awesome gym.

I love Planet FITNESS. I hope they continue to grow and remain strong so I always have a nice clean efficient place to work out. They've done a great job in democratizing fitness and making it excuse free affordable. They didn't get greedy, instead they got smart and appealed to a large swatch of the untapped / under served market which means millions are getting fit which in the end helps societyat large. Their LUNK alarm is quite intrusive and is social engineering at its finest but other than that and some missing pieces of free weight equipment, I tip my hat to this fine company. I think they're in it for the long run and can't imagine them going anywhere anytime soon. Wish the environment there was culturally more social but the masks and head down work ethic of everyone working out hard in there means it would be also socially unacceptable to become too social while on the floor. Didn't use to be that way back on the 70's and 80's where you actually got to know people, even their names, often new friendships would form from hanging out at the gym working out.

You shouldn't be going to a gym that offers you pizza and bagels and doesn't allow for deadlifts - one of the best compound exercises. Their business model is based on people never coming back to the gym - "casual gym goers".
@Kennypeagler4 жыл бұрын
@Maria Ulloa Its literally against their policy, which Is why they promote the smith machine a lot. Smith machine aren't real deadlifts. You don't use a lot of your stabilizer muscles, which is what makes the exercise awesome. I guess it works for some people...

@j.j73804 жыл бұрын
@@psulionz87 it is a little heartless to want small businesses to go under so big corporations can take over. These mom and pop stores wouldn’t have gone under if it weren’t for the pandemic snd the only reason they can’t stay afloat is because they don’t have the huge pockets that these major corps do. Capitalism exists in various degrees across the globe and no one has true raw liase faire capitalism because we know it doesn’t work properly. To just trust the market to always do the write thing is stupid because greed can create bad results and secrets or lack of understanding on the part of the customer makes it hard for them to use their money to create change too so they become pigeon held to oligarchies.

I think he failed economics. If some local gym get's bankrupt, someone else would open another given there would be high availability of second hand equipments due to more bankruptcy and closures. I don't think these big franchise based companies would sell second hand goods to franchisee.

The Lunk Alarm Button looks very similar to the Code Blue button that is pressed in a hospital setting, when someone goes into Cardiac Arrest, or they stop breathing! And it sounds similar to a Code Blue Alert that sounds when the Code Blue button is Pressed! It's a scary sound! One person that works at the Planet Fitness where I'll be going said that it sounds like a jet engine starting up! I relate it more to a code blue button alarm.

I love planet fitness, when the lockdown happen and pf was closed I gain 35lbs. But now!!!! Here is the beautiful part I am back on track and I’ve literally lost 30lbs and still going. I’ve only ate pizza once and it was very good 😋 I got your back PF best gym ever.
@JohnFKennedy4204 жыл бұрын
Remember, you lost those pounds, it has nothing to do with PF. Out of all the gyms I’ve been to they are by far the worst if you’re actually trying to o improve yourself. Cardio and circuit training is all they offer. Actual weight lifting and building muscle? Nah. They don’t even have free weights beyond dumbbells. Literally every other gym has a bench and squat station. PF doesn’t. It’s 100% for first timers and people who don’t know how to workout. No options

@@valenzuela5415 while it’s true they are used within minutes of each other, there are still employees paid to routinely sanitize and clean as an added measure to what members already do, of which, most tend to clean after themselves. However, don’t miss the fact that people are literally being paid to do a job they simply aren’t doing, yet is one of the biggest selling points to people looking for a safe place to exercise. The goal of my post is to inform people about what really isn’t happening in a place they pay a monthly fee for, not make a political statement.
