Saying Smash is not a fighting game is like saying arena fighters aren't fighting games 2) Super Smash Bros created a subgenre: the platform fighter 3) The only Smash players who get upset about including fighting game mechanics are competitive snobs that complain about "character gimmicks" because they think that those characters are going be annoying to deal with in competitive play, meanwhile casual players literally don't mind this.
