Truuuuue. Also, on the subject of perfect storms & low-seeds making runs, I'd like to add another step right at the beginning that allowed this to happen. Runaway Vancouver Titans roster getting blown up. Without that, they don't have Stitch (who has stepped up) or Jjanu (whose Hog has been 1 of the best in the Playoffs). Then you have the obvious steps of Decay gets cut after the signing deadline, Lullsish Visa issues allows them to sign Decay after OWL brings in an emergency signing rule and then the Mega Playoff Patch that puts Decay on a hero he goes Beast Mode on and puts their Supports on their best heroes. I have to agree though, I wanted Justice to fucking DUMPSTER Dallas but this shit has gone too fucking far if they make the Final 4 😂😂

I think Decay getting picked up cause of a rule loophole, the meta they’re dominating in being so far away from anything that came up in the regular season, the overall confusion that seems to be setting in on teams that have performed all season is worth commenting on IMO. It’s not as straightforward as “something clicked and it all came together for them”. Its literally a new player after the roster lock and a patch that is already being rolled back that seem to have put them in this spot. Decay is incredible and if you ignore all of that, it can be very compelling but it really does seem kinda shit for teams that are getting stomped after having performed better all season cause of circumstances that are so out of their control.

Personally I'd like the season and playoffs to be treated as two separate entities, the way (for example) European football is. You have your league running throughout the season and the person who finishes top wins the league; no additional "one-off" matches that can cause a surprise upset, just a trophy for being the most consistent over a whole season. Then you have a "cup competition" which is basically just a big double-elim tournament featuring every team at the end of the season where anyone can go on a Justice-style run for a second, separate title.

My issue with the whole Decay thing is that he played so many matches for a different team, I can see a rule being put in place next year preventing players from hopping teams late-season if they've played X amount of games/maps for one team. This would allow players primarily on the bench to still search for new teams, while preventing situations such as this Decay one.

Big frustration on people saying Stitch was never a good hitscan player. Or that Ark can only play Mercy. Last season at least for stages 1 and 2 Ark’a Lucio was putting up the same stats as Anamo’s Lucio even though he was on a losing team. The problem for two years has always been Justice’s tank line. Plus they could probably use a third support and another DPS. But no one said shit to Corey last year even though Justice we’re constantly losing. Sure it took Stitch some time to adapt. But for three stages Corey was playing Zarya, overextending like a mf, and nobody gave him shit.

What truly was unfair was that Dallas purposely dropped Decay once the deadline was over. They did it to Rascal in the past and they refused to let OGE go during the season last year when he wanted to be traded. If Dallas had played fair with Decay and dropped him during the season as they weren't happy with his performance and attitude etc, Decay would have been free to go to any team.

Well Paris also got an MVP level player halfway through the season in Sparkle who basically carried them all the way to the playoffs and look how that turned out in the end. Just because you get one MVP level player doesn't mean he'll automatically solo carry your team to the next level. If anything, Washington's coaching staff should get all the credit for integrating him so effectively into the roster and making the others also up their game to work as a unit.

@@bluepearl_22 The Paris situation is total different since Sparkle was already a Paris player who just needed to turn of age, whereas Washington only got Decay because Dallas dropping him after the normal trade deadline AND because Blizzard instituted the COVID signing rule. If this were any other year, Decay would not have joined Washington just because the rules wouldn't have allowed it. But fair point on Decay's integration into the team, although I wouldn't consider it that difficult to integrate an MVP level player who actually plays meta heroes.

I'm surprised that everyone except Bren's take on the NYXL vs SHD series was that SHD don't look as good as they thought they did and that they're not as confident in picking them as they were last episode... Personally, I thought that match was less telling of SHD and more so of NYXL. NYXL looked really good imo, they have looked better and better recently and have just had the unfortunate schedule of meeting SHD early in the Countdown Cup and in the Playoffs. I think if NYXL was on the other side of the bracket for the Countdown Cup they would've been in the finals, same here with playoffs. I think they're definitely the 2nd strongest looking team in APAC atm. SBB had such a strong performance on Tracer that entire series, he got a RIDICULOUS amount of value from his pulse bombs. It's so rare nowadays that we see a Tracer get 1st picks almost every single engagement with a pulse bomb. As amazing as Fleta is, he just wasn't getting the same value on Tracer as SBB just because of SBB's pulse bomb efficiency. That being said, I still think SHD are the best team in APAC and possibly the league, maybe tied with Philly atm... Even as a SHD's fan, I've never thought of them as the solidified #1 team in the entire league just because we haven't seen them play SFS or PHI yet and it's too hard to compare those teams when the regions have entirely different metas most of the time and different styles of play in their opponents. I'm just surprised to hear that SHD's performance against NYXL has brought more hesitation from the analysts, I think if anything they were just really pushed HARD by NYXL. The match was super competitive, more so than the scoreline admits, and even against an NYXL firing on all cylinders and popping the F off SHDs held strong. I know the meta doesn't suit Haksal very well and they can't use him to his upmost potential, but I think he did fine on Sombra... I know LJG countered a lot of his EMPs with Sound Barriers but honestly he was so far back hidding all the time when they knew Haksal had EMP, Haksal only had 2 choices either only hit LJG with an EMP or hit eveyone else and hope his team could find LJG or burst him down b4 he ulted or burn through the team with the extra shields. He was never in a position to get a full 6 man, and that's not really on him, LJG and SHD just played anti-Sombra perfectly imo. Just my 2 cents, and just to recap, I'm not saying I think they should all say SHD is the best team in the league because I've never even held that opinion and I've always thought they were tied with either SFS or PHI all season-long, but considering that they did think SHD was above both the top NA teams, I surprised that their recent series has brought any doubt into their minds about Shanghai. Reinforce and Bren just sound so salty about Washington lol The whole "it is unfair" thing is based on the fact that the other teams just don't know how to adapt. Who's fault is that? Not Washington's, but the teams that seem to not have learned the lessons of Hero Bans. Shock was on the same boat as all these other teams, and they made the changes that needed to be done and won against them. Paris lost because they couldn't adapt, it happened against Atlanta, it happened against Washington. It's their own fault they lost.

Relying on Nico is pretty sad, he's blatantly the worst player on the team as backed by the stats. Lowest teamfight win rate of any player on the squad by a notable margin. It was a Winston meta and the team doesn't have a good Winston player. Remember that in Korea NoSmite was regarded as a Rein specialist, and while competent his Winston is nowhere near top tier.

@Victor Marconnet Oh you are completely right, if it weren't for Decay, Washington would have left on their first Playoff match. To be honest with you, I never would have imagined one player would have had the carry capacity to elevate such a mediocre team to this level. Yeah we have seen some players clutch maps or team fights, but this is on another level entirely. And yeah, I don't know what Paris was thinking with those changes. Most of the times when Sombra was needed Soon was playing her. Soon was praised as such a great Sombra all those times. That match felt like the meme for Dallas with the "Fuel vs Dallas" thing. Paris has been stubborn with adapting through the Hero Bans, but somehow they have made it work most times. This time around, starting with their match against Atlanta, it just hurt them too much. It is a shame. But to get angry at Washington for "getting good" is almost like getting angry at London on season 1 for finally getting good on Playoff when the 3 stages after the first they got demolished.

They're massively underselling Shanghai. I've watched a lot of them through vods and replay viewer, and they're by far the most coordinated team in OWL. They would probably dominate Shock, Justice, Mayhem, and Valiant in this meta as well. The NYXL game was the first one I've seen where they've shown any cracks, but they look absolutely dominant at times. Anyone sleeping on them or all of APAC is probably up for a rude awakening during the Finals.

I mean, how can teams prepare for Justice on a day's notice? They're the only team who one-tricks Hog/Zarya and they play it differently (and much better) than all the other teams. That's a tough ask. I don't think it's a matter of "teams can't figure out how to beat Hog/Zarya" because if you go back to ATL vs SFS's Hollywood map, that's a pretty good demonstration of how to beat it. Lots of other teams have tried it and failed miserably. It's specifically how do you deal with Justice? Now that they're on the radar, it'll be a tougher road for sure. Teams will prepare.

The playoffs should have at least a month of a stable - non hero pool, no update meta. This completely ruins the storylines. Loses all satisfaction that a payoff should have.

I think shock were just on a different level in that sigma meta which pretty much remained until the shield nerfs. it wasnt like season 1 playoffs where nobody found out the meta before (or even during) playoffs, then 3 weeks later everyone was running goats.

Honestly this OWL season had been my favorite since the first one, I'm a little split about the playoffs though, I was looking forward to Paris and Shock popping off, as well as some more competition in APAC. So far the reaper sombra comps are boring AF and the hog zarya/dva comps are ok but don't often allow people to pop off as they thrive on other teams mistakes. Still, I'm enjoying the playoffs and will keep watching them

Yeah Architect is hella overrated. Yes he's a good boy, but he has *never* ever been top tier, or even hinted at it. They are completely blinded by the fact that he was on Shock when they won the league. But he was there season 1 when they sucked, even then he was benched for Danteh. He was not first team season 2 either. He had a decent Genji, solid Widow and a strong pocket Pharah. Prior to Overwatch League season 3 he only had 16 hours play time TOTAL in the Overwatch League despite playing both season 1 and 2. Then he joined Spark and played Tracer, a hero he had never played in his career. At X6 they had GodsB and Tracer specialist Timeboy. At Shock there was Danteh, and Sinatraa, then Striker. He is not and has never been a Tracer player, or top tier, and the expectations of him were unfair and absurd.

Whenever Seoul looks good the narrative is always that other teams look poor. Seoul played different comps to completely counter both Hangzhou and Guangzhou, maybe I’m missing the throwing shit at the wall? Why are the Justice better for only doing well on one comp when Seoul have run multiple comps to 3-0 in both their matches? Really want Seoul to win it all to force the Plat Chat crew to give them credit, but somehow it’ll be that everyone else just happened to look bad lmao.

Fusion are most likely gonna beat shock. It may be a close game probably a 3-1. Justice could beat shock if they come out and dominate but I doubt crusty will just sit and watch. Shock mirror wouldn’t be that good so not sure what they’d play.

They don't have as a strong grasp on the meta as Fusion does and they can't just mirror Fusion because they are just as skilled. Luckily Shock have a week to prepare. It's not a matter of "couldn't" though because they definitely could. Round 1 of Lijang ended 99-100. Justice win that final team fight and they win the series. So it isn't "couldn't" it is more that they just "didn't"

To be honest the owl2019 final should have a big asterisk on the San Fran win since the whole concept of double elimination brackets was thrown out the window and vancouver titans lost the title even though there should've been a second match after san Fran won the first one since there went to the finals through the losers bracket. San Fran lost one game and still won, titans lost only once as well and didn't get eliminated twice as any other double elimination bracket championship and lost

Justice got good overnight because of one patch, making Paris’s steady improvements, Shock’s ability to clutch, and Houston and Glads generally stacked rosters look like shit b
