Thank you Marc and Ethan! I'm going to share with my senior community in Orange, CT. As I introduce emotional regulation to my over 55 seniors in Relaxation and Stress Reduction. This amazing population of talented senior have been neglected in this area in my state of CT. The seniors are highly interested in learning and becoming more educated in this area. Many are fed up with the pathogenic model of healthcare and want to learn more about the salutogenic model. Becoming emotionally healthy is a life long intention regardless of age, and choosing practices or strategies to support this is essential for health and wellbeing throughout life. Goals/objectives in academic terminology- meaning you might incorporate different strategies/practices and accomplish the goal of learning these skill sets isolation, but yes, as you mention, life is choosing from the alphabet of strategies/practices which can be helpful and skillful, and just as important be different in place and time for each individual.

Marshall Goldsmith studied how people apply the knowledge he teaches to their lives, how they make more permanent use of it. He talks about The Six Questions. He does this himself, he doesn’t just recommend it for others. He writes the six questions (up to as many as 32). Then he has someone else call him every day, he pays her, to listen on the phone to him recite these daily questions and answer them with yes, no, how much. He says he could just ask himself the question but the process of telling an accountability partner keeps him from “falling off the wagon.”

Seeing ourselves as the second person is something I hear about from people teaching meditation or Buddhism. At first hearing, it sounds like inviting schizophrenia! :) So in all things we need balance.

Thank you Dr. Brackett and Dr. Kross My big take away from this video is learning about the Solomon paradox and the power of third person self-talk and distancing to help us “help ourselves” more objectively than usual. Those moments where we can actually say to ourselves “(insert your name)______you got this, _______ this will pass, _________it’s okay, you will try again and my personal favourite _______ start slowly and the words will flow” whenever I get anxiety to start writing a paper.

Anger and fear are mostly red quadrant. So are determination and resolve.

I incorporate music in my course for senior students to evaluate which genres of music change their moods.... limited research in this area as well as blue spaces.... You mention green spaces. More research is ongoing with seniors and blue spaces....sadly not at the lower ed or high ed levels from what I've researched so far.....
