Both of you are in my humble opinion the longest running, most loving, young couple scraping from the bottom to the exquisite top of the marine building and sailing learning curves. Similarly, my wife is Korean and I am a white 'mutt' of Irish, Polish & German mix. My loving wife is, ahem, unfortunately a solidly land-based being, while I long to return to the sea. I've had to settle with watching your wonderful KZbin channel that takes me back to the fondest of memories:-) Thank you!

Mark! Remember, a little bit of finesse when working tools goes a long way & when rolling paint; be liberal with the paint & slow down on the roll. See ya later...

Great stuff, keep at it. Also! Remember...a tarp is not just to keep the rain off...it is invaluable as a sunshade. Pitch it over a taut ridge line above head height, using long ropes to guy it out at corners and along the sides. Stay cool in the mid day heat!

Sorry about this typical 'old geezer' comment, but if I were your parents I would be INSANELY proud of you both. I doubt you've ever done any of these jobs before but undaunted you find out what you need to know and get on with them. It's remarkably inspiring to see you succeed in every project with no fuss and bluster. I am planning to retire (with no money and only a state pension!) down to the sunnier parts of the world on a cheap sailing boat, and am being gently escorted by you through what that sort of life will involve. The third party insurance thingy must still apply as if, god forbid, your boat were to cause damage to another after you'd taken all reasonable precautionary steps, your insurance company have got far fewer ways of escaping your claim. You knew that anyway as your brains are far bigger than my little bit of over-ripe vegetable matter. I'll be opening a KZbin channel so people can laugh at my attempts to keep all the plates spinning, and the bit of research I've done shows me how clever you are to face all the boat-based challenges whilst trying to capture it all on video, select which bits to show and all the other tech wizardry. I'm sure I speak for all your subscribers and viewers when I say you two are a fabulous team for showing everyone the right way to approach all this boaty maintenance and repairs. It is no surprise you enjoy such kindness and loyalty from us all. Lots of love as always, Mike.

Those Wago Connectors are for RESIDENTIAL wiring (over 100V) and I doubt your insurance company would approve them. Any splice on a boat needs to be insulated against salt air corrosion. The most "water proof" splice uses a non-insulated splice connector. one wire comes in from one side and the other from the other side. (I like TE Connectivity brand Solistrand Parallel Splices. Theses are tinned so the will not corrode.) You need to purchase a couple of sizes (2 wire, 3 wire, 4 wire). You do need a special crimping tool (Ideal 45-778 are good and are useful for other wiring tasks. Klein 1006 are better, but only crimp.) Using "marine"/"dual wall" heat shrink tubing over the splice will make it waterproof. Again, you will need several sizes. If you have any projects where you will be replacing or installing new wire, spend the extra money and buy marine/pre-tinned wire. It is pre-tinned (coated in solder) so it will not corrode. Shop Ali-Express.

I like Minke whales, but am glad you didn't name her after a seal. There was a seal on a pier in California - San Diego or one of them hovels. Anyway, the seal looked ill and narked off, and all the other seals were either ignoring him or hissing at him. I went near him to show some support - us underdogs must stick together - and when I tried to stroke him he bit me. I buggered off and left him to it. Down the other end of the pier was a pelican (a marvellous thing is the pelican, it's beak can hold more than its belly can) with a bad wing, maybe broken by that awful seal. I called a phone number on the pier to report his plight to the ASPCA who responded quickly and took him away to bind his bad wing. I mentioned the seal to them and they said sometimes a seal will go like that, really cranky, and it's best to leave them alone till they cheer up. Like taxi drivers really I suppose.

Steel set screws in a stainless steel part on a boat used at sea. This is the absolute best recept for corrosion of the set screws. They should use stainless steel set screws instead and mount them will a little Loctite. When the Loctite is broken by heat they can easily be taken out if needed.

As a retired carpenter and all-around handyman extraordinaire, I've had my best luck removing corroded screws with a set of drill bits which cut/drill in reverse (while turning counter-clockwise). One can start smaller -- using a punch if needed to center the drill bit as perfectly as possible. Once you've drilled the length of the screw, give the next larger drill bit a go. More often than not, the combination of heat (from friction) and vibration will loosen the screw and it will suddenly back out -- still stuck on the drill bit! The problem with easy outs and such is they are tapered . . . so as they start to get a grip they are also wedging the screw inside it's threaded hole even tighter = not good. Anytime a drill bit is not removing metal, one of two things is wrong. Either the drill bit is dull and must be replaced *or* the metal you're drilling into is harder than the drill bit and a drill bit of even harder metal must be used. Keep up the good work! :)

@hereintranzit
@hereintranzit 3 жыл бұрын
I’d be replacing all the through hull fittings, seacocks, hose clamps and hoses to all the stuff below the waterline with new supply and something that has a good reputation. Don’t go the cheap route when it comes to these particular items ! You don’t want the old boat to sink into the drink because one of those old things, or installing some cheap unproven crap, decides to come apart in some rough seas and let the ocean come into the boat, do ya ? And also it’s important to inspect the condition of the propellers and propeller shafts, replace propeller shaft seals and bearings, fixing rudders and rudder assemblies, replacing the zincs and applying a coat of antifouling paint before the splash. Cosmetics don’t matter all that much as keeping the water out of the boat does, and all cosmetics inside, and outside above the waterline (except painting the hulls and the underside of the bridge deck), as fixing or replacing engines, transmissions, appliances and electronics can be done while in the water in the marina or at anchor. The steering mechanism, the standing and running rigging, sails and structural integrity are just as important if you don’t want to call “mayday” while on passage. So, keep on going through the projects and don’t be in a hurry to splash and go sailing. Better safe than sorry ! Take care and God bless ! 🤙🏻

Had to Google that rusty old hulk next to you, thinking it looked like something Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn might have cruised on. The “Lili Frisco” was only built in 1990, so your 70’s catamaran is looking pretty good in comparison.
