Years ago, when we moved houses, my mom and then kindergarten-age brother found two stray cats on the road near the new house. As it turned out , one was male, the other female. Before a full year had passed, between those two procreating and all the other strays congregating around, we had as many as seventeen porch cats. The "cat pack" manged to remove every other live animal within several feet of the ground that was smaller than about ten pounds. They even caught frogs out of the swamp area next to the lake. This we discovered was happening when we found a pair of chewed frog legs attached to a very dry skin that had basically cooked itself to the deck from the summer sun.

@@brentkreinop489 Yes, cats are absolutely gods perfect little killing machines and that's part of why those not looking to use them for pest control around farms (like Morgan here does) should keep them indoors. They have actually caused native wildlife to go extinct in some countries, like Australia. Cats are 100% predators and it's so easy to forget that our sweet purring cuddly little furbabies are capable of absolutely murdering anything small enough, but they are. I live in FL and if any small lizards or frogs find their way into my house they do not make it out alive. It's a full on manhunt. Cats are hunters plain and simple.

Most people could care less if an injured stray cat wound up on their property, at best putting them out of their misery, at worse mistreating them before they pass. I don’t blame Morgan and his family for not pissing about. Rabies is certainly not something to be taken lightly. I presume Toby would’ve been vaccinated against rabies given the fact that he is in contact potentially with Other predators. By having Molly sterilised as well as Lill, Obviously Julie will be done in due course it will mean that less stray tomcat will be around the place and potentially less chance for rabies to get in to Morgan’s animal population. I think you did the right thing. Even his rabies then the state authorities I presume will be alerted. I feel so sorry for that poor cat who had to be euthanised. The twitching and stiff body makes it sound like distemper/rabies which I've seen a few raccoons with similar symptoms and they were in bad shape so I put them down. These raccoons had stiff bodies, drooling, unresponsive and limbs were twitching and seizing. And a quick edit: Cats and dogs can get it too so get them shots for it

2 years ago ago , a cat came to our home with a torn open right ear . We brought him to the vet the next day , cleaned the wound , the vet managed to stick the ear back in place. We treated him for weeks until he gained weight and released him. 2 month ago , he came back with new wounds. We got him to the vet again and started new treatment. But this time he wasn't gaining weight. 5 days ago , He Stopped eating , stopped drinking . And he passed away 2 days ago at our home.

My first thought was rabies; living in the country it's ALWAYS a possibility. Relieved to know you at least used gloves, although that is is NEVER a guarantee you won't get bit or scratched. I lived in the desert for 25 years surrounded by wildlife and for years we were told by authorities to get our animals shots every year, rabies was that prevalent in the area.
@MA-zg2pz
@MA-zg2pz 2 жыл бұрын
It’s the law in almost every state to have dogs, cats, and pet ferrets get vaccinated for rabies yearly or 3 year shots are available because it gets out of control so fast otherwise.
@Gloria-ro4vn
@Gloria-ro4vn 2 жыл бұрын
@@MA-zg2pz I live in California, by law you must give your dogs rabies but not cats. As far as ferrets go; it's ILLEGAL to own one. If you are caught having one as a pet, you are fined and Wildlife Control Officers would put it down. In our City, our Animal Officer knew people in Nevada who had a ferret Sanctuary and would take them there.

Considering you’ve been having problems with those hunters, I would also be worried about poisoning. But rabies is a disease you have to consider. In fact, in your Dad’s state of Delaware, I have received 3 reports of rabies in the last two weeks - found in a cat, fox and a very rare case found in a deer. Cats are found often because being outside they are susceptible from other predators, such as foxes, and because they are used to people. I understand the need for barn cats but for pets, I would never allow them outside unsupervised.
