It was "solid core" not "solid door". Love to see this retested with Solid wood door. Solid metal would be overkill with the only weakness that could screw the furniture blockade being the framework holding the door. Thus this deserves a retest with multiple attackers of different statures and multiple different doors.

@@iCore7Gaming The Fire Door are probably fine, but it may not be. Check the door jamb. That''s the piece that links the door to the wall. It's typically 1/2 inch or less, and if that breaks the door swings right open because nothing is holding it to the wall. The metal reinforcement around the latch mechanism helps some, but if Tommy batters that door a couple times he could very well break the wood it's attached to, and then he's through.

One thing I think they should have mentioned was that it's important to put a TALL piece of furniture in front of the door first. That way even if they break the top half of the door off, they can't just climb in. Plus it's giving the door more surface area to brace against

yeah but they did that and big tommy just knocked it over you would need something super strong & impossible to knock over like a bed with a tall headboard made of titanium (and then you would have to wedge it against the wall like they tried to do) in order to keep tommy out

If they had stood the dresser up and put it drawers facing the door, then wedged the other furniture between it and the other wall... that would've put a lot of pretty solid wood on this side of the door, reinforcing it all the way up. I think that would've prevented the door from breaking.

FWIW, these flimsy doors are pretty common in the US but are used only for interior doors in homes, mostly for the purpose of privacy. They're designed to be cheap and lightweight, not for security. We do have solid, secure doors here, just like everywhere else in the world.

So you get a strong door. But did you reinforce the hinges and did you reinforce the frame? Because otherwise you could just donkey kick near the hinges and rip them off. Once the frame is reinforced, they can just enter in through the window. If you reinforce the window, or bar It off ,now you just have an ugly looking house. A secure one, but an ugly one. And of course at that point, there's always the wall. Point is, if they want into a room, they can get into a room.

The door hinges and the chair would be the next item to break, or the door handle itself. If there is no exit to the room, they could always stake outside or have time to get something that will break the door down.

I think the best technique is to FIRST lock the door then find something like a bed or book shelf to block most of the door. Then gradually start piling up things but start with larger furniture first then finish off with smaller furniture...I mean...if you can...

As someone with a little brother. I can confirm that weight alone will never stop them for long. Wedging is the only solution. Granted we've never gone to the extreme of destroying the door. Big Tommy for the win. Regardless when I get a house all the doors are going to be solid wood or re-inforced. Same for the doorframe. All in all an excellent myth for the show!

In the US at least, interior doors are usually light and cheap (designed for privacy rather than security) like the one in this video. They probably used that door for the demonstration because that's the situation portrayed in TV shows and movies (i.e. someone's inside the building and you're in a room with a bunch of furniture). Exterior doors are the heavy and solid types.

While true for this clip, your size isn't that much of a factor if you know how to apply the force you do have in the right area. I'm almost literally 1/3 the size of that guy but I've still managed to kick in a couple of doors; in my case my legs are stronger than my torso so I focus all the power of my kicks around the door handle as the jamb is often the weakest part of the door.

The second trial has some smart moves to put the furniture that way, it minimizes both the shear force and torque, along with a carpet of greater friction it works great. However the way you barricade doesn't matter as it appears that it is the door that's far too weak and gets broken every time prior to the furniture breaking, it would at most slow down the entry. Try stronger doors like the ones made of metal.

@Venom when I was in highschool, we had a severe weather drill where, to get us away from the windows in the classrooms they brought us past the almost all glass enterenceway, down a hallway to a small area with what amounted to glass walls on both sides so we could be packed in there for a while as we waited for our turn to file sngle-file down a staircase in said area so we could get to the "safe" spot of a wide hallway/tunnel leading right to a giant picture window overlooking a small cliff/steep hill (a couple stories down). As following the drill in the event of a real disaster was just shy of suicidal, I came up with my own plans, of course...it wasn't hard as there were actually a bunch of safe places to hide that would have been extremely safe (and were unused as they weren't used for any section of students in the drills) You're at school to learn, not to learn not to think. Learn as much as you can (including _how_ to think, if they ever teach you any real critical thinking skills) but don't let stupid adults (or even just smart, but bull-headed ones) beat independent thinking and creativity put of you.

@@dosmundos3830 in private homes, that's true, but plenty of buildings designed to contain a large number of people are required to have all doors open outwards so that if there's a panic to get to the door (such as in a fire) the doors never open against the flow of people heading to the exits (doing otherwise can result in deaths by crushing and/or being unable to get out in time as the prople trying to open the door are pressed against it by the panicked people behind them)

Also buys time to go through another door/window and break the pursuers line of sight. Might even get spotted once he gets through the door and barricade but when every seconds counts, buying yourself about 15-20 seconds is huge. I'm learning more that it pays to be creative like Adam was here.
