Can You Beat Shin Megami Tensei V On HARD Doing Only Mandatory Battles?

This must have been one of the most fun and most miserable experiences I ever had playing a game. SMTV on Hard doing Mandatory Battles only sounds absolutely insane and that is...because well it is!
2 months ago (to this day) I thought I want to make another SMTV video before Vengeance comes out and I was able to do just that barely in time (thanks to a couple of night shifts the last few days)

Fusion accident rate starts at 1/128 under normal circumstances, during full moon it's always 1/16, and at new moon it's normally 1/128, but if one of the demons is dead it jumps to 1/16 and if both are dead you get the highest rate of 1/8.

Most other SMT low level runs: Make use of the fusion systems to create powerful low level demons and use insane stratagies to take down whatever challenge is thrown your way. Low level runs in SMTV: Use fusion accidents to get the highest level demons possible because the game designers thought damage scaling with level was a good idea.

I just played SMT V last month in preparation for Vengeance and not a single time in 70+ hours I saw the light of a fusion accident, to the point where (when it happened in Vengeance) I legit thought this was something that was missing in the original.

You poor soul. Next challenge, do any battle you want while playing on Safety Difficulty and defeating some Fiends for some free stat balms. Can't guarantee it will be easy, but should be less painful.

@@legend7951 it would be very interesting to see. The fight isn't impossible if you can keep up the consistent pressure, and there are definitely some very helpful demons you can find ~around~ that level, but if any fight would kill the run, it would definitely be that one

Mandatory battle runs are the best runs. Imo it has the most skill expression and forces people to be creative but the grinding for accidental fusions sounds like a true hell

It hurts so much to watch the last part of the video, because you chose law ending, you could've gotten the miracle that removes the level limit for fusion if you had chosen law-sided options throught the game.

congrats man! i did a no miracles hard run of this game (also on the law route) and that was already a nightmare even with doing all the sidequests and keeping my level on par. i can't imagine being this underleveled with how brutal the level scaling is in this game. futsunushi, girimekhala, and alilat were absolutely the mvps in the endgame, along with huang long who was legal in my ruleset. the only difference was that i banned accursed poison, but it was a lot more manageable since everything did much less damage due to being equal level. on tsukuyomi after wiping a few times i came up with a strat, when he used true replication i would have MC use a fire shard and used a ruler to measure the HP bars on my screen to see which one was the longest, since the replicas take a little more damage. then i just unloaded on the real one and i was right every single time, it was a great turn to deal lots of damage. really great job, would be interested to see what this run looks like in vengeance

Sick challenge idea, I loved it. Also this is something you probably already know by now, but just for completion's sake: the +7/-7 range of fusion accident demon level is relative to the demon you're trying to fuse, not Nahobino's level. On the other hand, I didn't know sometimes you'd be so unlucky to get a level 1 slime, so that's really fucking funny

20:29 nuts considering it's expected that you fight Nuwa at around level 20-22 in a normal run. That's the other side of the level curve in SMTV, I think. Yeah, level scaling has a big impact on damage, but the game rubber bands your xp so that it's very hard to be over- or under leveled for a particular area.

I don't know if anyone has said this already but Switching a demon in after using Omagatoki Luck actually causes that demon to not benefit from the luck bonus. Its actually more worthwhile to keep them in the stock

Really empathized with your frustration during certain parts of this run (and OMG the amount of grinding you had to do was RIDICULOUS!). My only critique is that certain music tracks were kind of tussling with the spoken audio in terms of being a bit distracting.

Your early fusion accident successes followed by that dry streak are 100% just rng. Nothing happened I can't say that fusion accidents always have a 1/128 chance of occuring regardless of full moon status, because I play Vengeance on the PC and that is where that's true and I've had fusion accidents without a full or new moon, but what I can say is that fusing with a dead demon on a new moon increases your chances to the same as on a full moon, and fusing with two dead demons (on a new moon) raises it to a very reliably testable 1/8 chance. This would have been totally useless to you even if you had learned it, though. No way to kill demons if you can't enter fights.

In order to get the fusion accident achievement i had to keep doing fusions and then reloading when i was out of macca and it still took more than an hour, i can't imagine the pain of doing this run

14:59 as someone who has done a pure agility build for their first play through I really wouldn’t recommend that You can have 999 agility with elusive eclipse against the first slime while only guarding and it still takes forever to get a dodge, IT SCALES TERRIBLY!! Sure I have only ever missed 2 times, but still

Everyone is talking about how they've never even seen a fusion accident, meanwhile I've gotten plenty in both the OG and Vengeance but they were always lower level so I thought they removed the cap breaking part and was convinced it was trash besides the accident exclusive demons

The glitch you used to get to the Temple of Eternity early can also be used to access all of Shinagawa before Loup'garou spawns. This also means you can completely skip Loup'garou and Fionn since the story flag actually DOES get updated once you enter the fairy village. (But i imagine you wouldnt want to do that)

I wonder how much of a difference it would have made if you did Canon of Creation (the original game route) in the Vengeance version since that version of the game removed the absurd level scaling nonsense that the original had, so fighting stuff above your level isn't an exercise in futility. Probably would make things a lot easier just from removing the level scaling BS alone, and additional demons and quests probably would also help some getting some extra exp and new skills/essences. Extremely impressive nonetheless

If u talk about godborne it's not difficulty lvl but new way of Ng+ like reborn and newborn vegence and base game have the same difficulty lvls with hard being hardest
