The older I get the more I am acutely aware of my surroundings & keep distance away from anyone who even has the slightest inkling of looking unstable. The bottom line is I don't have health insurance. I can't afford a preventable doctors visit or worse a hospital stay much less getting arrested if I end up doing the damage.

I cannot stress the importance of learning how to walk away-not just in physical fights but in interpersonal conflict in general. If a relationship or situation is ugly, charged, and going to get much worse, please just learn to walk away. It's the stoic and manly thing to do. This is the most valuable insight I've gained in my almost 50 years on this planet, and I use this strategy to great success in relationships, business, conflicts-you name it. It works.

🎯🎯🎯🎯 One of the things that often gets overlooked in discussions, or even training, on this topic are the legal consequences of laying a beating on someone else even if (in your possibly valid) you’re protecting yourself. Most of the laws seem to have been crafted by people who have either never been in a fight or forgot what it’s like AND have the social position to pay others to do their heavy lifting. Any violent confrontation, wherever it occurs, serious enough to warrant examination by the DA is potentially a crime and if that determination goes against you, you’ve created a six-figure criminal defense scenario for yourself. Ditto if the guy subsequently passes away, an autopsy is ordered and the coroner determines that cause of death is a consequence of the altercation that he started. You might get charged with involuntary manslaughter or even second degree murder. This isn’t to suggest that you should allow some dirtbag to drag you into the alley and take liberties on you by ANY means. Just be aware that you’re opening the door to an absolute shyt show even if you don’t end up in a cell. Walk away if you can, run if you must. Having witnesses that can & will testify in court that you took kinetic action to avoid trouble might help you down the road…

The Fight already started at the start of the video. Never let anyone come into your Personal Space like that, always treat it like a Threat. The 3 foot rule all around, why would you invade someone’s personal space like that unless you plan on attacking someone. Spatial awareness is super important with regards to the people around you. Sometimes if I feel like someone is walking towards me and I get a smidge of a notion that they might be a threat even if they aren't, I walk off to the side. This forces them to change direction to continue heading towards me. If they do that is an immediate red flag for me. I also watch out for aggressive banter. People often use aggressive banter to escalate fights. Most people don't banter with people they don't know, and if someone you don't know is bantering with you to get a rise out of you - instant red flag. And one of the best advice I got from Asmongold is to never banter with someone you don't know so you don't end up starting fights yourself.

One time, a guy challenged me to a fight. I agreed, and he started taking his shirt off. So I took off my pants. He asked me what I was doing and told me to put my pants back on. I said no because if I did, I'd have to take off my shirt, and if we're both shirtless, then there's a chance our nipples might touch. And that's just gay. While this is happening, the guy is backpeddling away from me while I keep advancing towards him. He then starts putting his shirt back on and tells me to do the same with my pants. I tell him I won't because I'm comfortable, and at this point, my mind is in fight mode. He ends up running away while calling me a 'pyscho' and a 'lunatic'😂

The bladed stance is only an indicator if they know how to fight. You're going to get knocked out looking for some punk to get into a trained fighting position, and he hits you while facing you square with off-balance, clumsy swings. The average thug doesn't get into fights, he just hits people who don't fight back and doesn't really know how to punch properly in most cases, so he won't know about angled stances and will face you squarely.

In police street survival training, adjusting clothes, etc. are called “attack indicators”. There is a training video captured on dash cam of a lone police officer making a traffic stop. The officer was a very large man, probably 6’6” about 350 pounds. According to colleagues, he relied on his intimidating size to control the situation, despite being about 60 years old and not a skilled fighter. As he is conducting the stop he discovered a large quantity of marijuana in the trunk. The three much smaller men in the car are out of the vehicle. The officer is not controlling the situation, even though he now knows he’s dealing with three felons. The smugglers are just moving around freely. One of them takes his hat off and tosses it aside. Clearly, getting ready for a fight. Suddenly, he rushes the officer and tackles him, then the other two jump in. The officer was killed with his own gun.

When will I ever learn about their hands? After all these years it has never been a box of sweets or flowers. Seriously though, the sucker punch is very common these days (from watching videos, I'm too old for street beefs, I have acquired a black belt in Run Fu and Ju Jets Off) but when I was young it was usually starting to ball their fists and worse of all the telegraphed load up for a haymaker, dominant hand going back with alternate leg step forward (the latter was generally a drunk in a pub).

My buddy who happens to be a fighter has the best sign ever: he reaches into his pocket and puts in a mouth guard.

What are the legal ramifications for striking first, even though a fight was imminent?

When they close the distance it's on. Action time. Don't wait to get hit and don't move back unless you have your hand up

Is an indicator to strike first, is when an angry person starts angrily walking up to you ,tryin to get into your face...isn't that the time to strike first? He has invaded your space and he is a stranger and you feel threatened. Obviously he is not coming up to you to say hi. You all have seen these videos where these guys want to get right into your face; nose-to-nose...why let it get that far?
@The0Matador06 күн бұрын
More often than not it is bravado and they are using anger to intimate. You will be surprised how they will back off if you don’t look threatened. On the other hand, if you strike first, well you have started something they may finish. Not everyone is Bruce Lee.

When they put themselves that close and are being hostile, whatever you do to them is on them. They are within touching distance and menacing you. You can't determine bravado from intent. Best to err on the side of safety. If you fear for your safety, you are allowed to strike first. Obviously, this won't work if the person is smaller than you, or you approached him and initiated the conflict in the first place, in which case everyone can tell you just used it as an excuse.

Hi Fight Science. Thank you for all your videos, can i ask something please Do you have to look at the eyes, me ... when im threatend, im ignoring what they are saying and looking at their hands and calculating thier movement. Then anything that goes for pockets, i intend to launch. Good / Bad? do you need to watch the eyes then? im thinking, psychologically on the potentential attackers point of view "they are watching my hands, they will DO something the moment i try and attack them". What you think please? Anyone reading, welcome to test this with sparing partner to see what they felt = = = have a good christmas and year ahead
