He also may have used a simple trick of pressing a main artery in the arm/wrist used to test for a pulse. Great video, Steve !

Thanks. There’s a trick where one places a small ball in one’s armpit and it suppresses the pulse in one’s arm. One of the SRF monastics tells a story of how Yogananda performed to a crowd in LA where a doctor comes up from the audience to test his pulse in one arm and finds nothing and then measures the other arm to find a racing pulse. Then a few seconds later, the doctor measures a normal pulse in both arms and leaves the stage perplexed. The use of the small ball in the armpit would accommodate this performance and is easy to release at will without arousing suspicion.

Both Yogananda, in his famous book "The Science of Religion", and Yogananda's master, Sri Yukteswar, in his masterpiece "The Holy Science" say unequivocally that the Science of Kriya Yoga goes beyond just giving the internal organs such as the heart and the lungs a simple "break" as in the partial inhibition(rest) of one's electrical conductivity in sleep. They both say that this science divine gives COMPLETE REST to one's internal organs. For it is written, "Then thou shalt feed on death that feeds on men, and death once dead there's no more dying then".🔥🔥

Many have claimed that yogis are able to stop their heart and completely rest the organs during meditation. However, despite such claims, Yogananda was unable to stop his heart in 1935 as I mentioned in the video. One can certainly continue to believe such claims in the face of evidence to the contrary.

I run into it all the time: people using spirituality to gain money and power. Once I had nothing pressing to do and practiced slow breathing for 2 days as I went about. My resting heart rate dropped from 68 to 58 and stayed there for 2 weeks. I felt very calm and relaxed.

It can definitely have a relaxing and rejuvenating effect.

This may sound crazy, but I believe Yogananda when he says that you can give rest to your internal organs. The majority of the people in this world are not living as the Creator intended in the Genesis; therefore, they lack the knowledge of how to govern themselves. Didn't the Bible say, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge"? So, people like Yogananda are sent by God to bring all things to man's remembrance as it was in the beginning. I don't think that Yogananda is asking us to believe him so much as he is wanting us to just give his scientific technique a try. And if it does or does not do everything he says it will do, then you can testify to its validity or not. Other than that, we're just engaging ourselves in the paralysis of analysis.❤

Certainly, by relaxing in meditation one can give the internal organs a break, but this also occurs in sleep. What meditation allows, if practice correctly, is to let go of attachment to items of craving that bring unhappiness. By doing this one gradually frees one’s mind from the delusion of attachment. This allows one to see things as they truly are and to help destroy ignorance. This is the epitome of awakening., which is sometimes referred to as realization. Scriptures are not truth themselves, but sometimes point to truth, provided the original speaker had experiential realization.
