That's very black & white, all-or-nothing thinking. If you don't/can't trust any of your co-workers, either you are new, or you need to gtfo. What do you do if there is ONE person who legitimately and damagingly betrays your trust? Why does that reflect badly on you? If the person is artificial & therefore likable, they thrive while manipulating you? Fun times.

Watching this video now at work, as I deal with toxic, underhanded coworkers...you know the type: they will smile in your face and claim you can trust them, as they go running to snitch on you a few minutes later? Yeah. I don't trust anyone at my job, particularly in the department I work in! Trying to escape now as I job hunt. All while tolerating toxic, fake coworkers, and a manager that shows blatant favoritism, racism, and lies in your face. Trying to transfer internally, as my issue is within the department, not company itself, but if that's not an option, I WILL find options outside the facility. You know it's a bad sign when they talk about each other behind their backs, yet smile in that same person's face when they're around. Meaning you KNOW as soon as you leave the room, they're talking about you as well. I no longer confide in anyone: I keep things very simple and work related. Do my job and go home. Am I happy? NO. Absolutely not. But I'm trying to stay sane, calm, and focused until something better comes along. I used to think I could play the "office politics" game and ride it out? But sometimes you have to know when to walk away from a bad situation.
@JenniferBrick
@JenniferBrick 3 жыл бұрын
Toxic coworkers are another level, and yours have shown you that they are not trustworthy (and immature). Hold those boundaries, especially with you personal life. Set an internal boundary that you don't care what they think it speculate about you. You'll never please them and they are not capable of bonding with others unless it's through misery. This will help you survive until you're out of it 💜

I used to work for a small company. One day I had to go to another city with my supervisor and he started to talk about how he would cheat on his girlfriend and other stuff. I could have used that to destroy his life, but never did. He was planning popping the question. Since we rented a car to go to that city, he would play the same song over and over again. I was tired and the trip took 10 hours. I said to one of the new guys about how sick I was of listening to the supervisor's playlist and he told everybody. I felt so betrayed. Later I learned that they would talk behind my back and was fired months later. Said supervisor would brag about how he had the power to fire anybody for no reason. Never thought I would be next. Never ever share info with your co-workers.

Yes we raz each other constantly but we'll only stab each other face to face. I tried office work it was so dang toxic.

Well do not trust your co workers at least until you feel you can trust them. Be neutral with your co workers at first, then wait until your co workers SHOW you that you can trust them. Never discuss your Financial situation with co workers. First, it is none of their business. Second, if you tell co workers that you have numerous bills to pay and it's a struggle for you to make payments, that could be used against you. Your new co workers might start to think they can dump on you in terms of workload because of your debt situation.

I built a strong relationship with some on my immediate team. Recently I took a big step back from every member on my team due to being within close proxy to an overstepping colleague who thinks she is my boss. I have had 4 people reach out to me of their own volition and ask if everything is ok and have brought up they miss my happy welcoming personality. These 4 people opened up about also having issues with the same co worker and have been actually feeling the same way. Having professional boundaries can make you build some great professional relationships with colleagues and can earn you valuable respect when it comes time to need for change

There is one co-worker I absolutely do not trust. When we have had disagreements, he immediately goes to the boss who agrees with him (they are friends) and I am labelled 'agressive' (I am female and it related to a reply to his email) and he was labelled 'to the point'. As the only female in the office of 9, this coworker tries to treat me like his PA and when I push back on it I get called 'agressive'. How the hell do I deal with this? Everyone else I get on with because we all do our job role - if there are any issues we work to resolve it. I have respect for those colleagues (they are not my 'friends') because we all respect boundaries and know what is expected. This co-worker, does not. And he always gets the back of my boss.

I told a co worker how I was feeling one day, during the conversation I asked her to keep it to herself; she went and discussed it with my manger which then turned into a whole other thing. She then came back and said she was trying to help…. Which was super annoying because there was no help of the sort because my manager took it badly. So what did I do???? I exposed what she did to the office so people knew not to trust her, using myself as the example.

Bosses and superiors constantly and consistently cannot be trusted, because they have their own agendas that they do not want to share or ever will reveal because many of their policies and tactics are never employee friendly. The thing is Jennifer my problem at work is being too trusting/open/kind (ENFP personality type) and being really hurt if a manager or co-worker throws me under the bus so now I’m learning to be less open and to keep my private life private or pick and choose who I open to at work. I work in the Australian public service (very busy department) government departments are full on and great but people can definately throw you under the bus in meetings or play the “office politics” games to get promoted… it’s a very interesting place to work lol!! Very hierachal too so you have to make sure you don’t upset the higher levels or you get in big trouble with performance management etc etc… I’m still new to the public service! Also can you give us tips or me on how to survive on a non ongoing contract at work and to try to stay sane lol!! Cos during your full time contract jobs you have an end date and have to search for other ongoing/permanent jobs which can be so stressful! I much prefer ongoing/permanent jobs over contract jobs/non ongoing etc!! More job stability:)

Yet upper management either don't care or just blind. I think that all they need to do to figure this out is like figuring out a math problem. Who is the common denominator. Who is the worker that seems to show up as the one that is part of the drama reported to HR. It cost money to hire people. But if the people don't stay and they have to keep hiring over and over again, that can be expensive to a company. All because they keep these employees that chase off the new ones. These middle schooler employees have no respect for others and are just rude. Yet they are not called out for this behavior.

Left a toxic workplace to another one, most cant be trusted, ill never give someone that chance again, just be professional and thats it, talk kindly even when they are rude, document and report to HR if that dont work just leave till you find a workplace thats puttable, every workplace will have at least one person, the whole we are like a little family is a lie, a dysfunctional one yes

May i trust my female coworker with hugs almost every day? For example, one i knew, she enjoys our hugs. Same with me. I told her that i have a girlfriend. I didn't always have to let her slide with the hugs. What i don't want, is for a boss to meet with us both and talk with us. Then there's drama. When it comes to work, I'm there to clock in, get my money, and go home!

I think I am trustworthy, but I certainly wouldn't share any personal information with co-workers, and I have little respect for those coworkers that do. By definition, that behavior is unprofessional. I also worked with co-workers that, when they feel too comfortable, result in disrespecting boundaries.

4:08 .. I often find it difficult to keep my mouth shut when the situation arises to say something. Something i should learn. For example I'm trying to switch job at the moment. Something the general advice about is to keep it to yourself until the deal is sealed. Meanwhile i told everyone in the team about it............ And this is just something i might hurt myself with (so far it didn't though, my colleagues are very understanding about it). But if someone tells me something private in confidence, and they hurt me, then i have no problem spreading out that confidential private information about them.

Ha no when working as a tech handler in a mobile phone and broadband services it was a kill or be killed environment I can tell you. Like out of the USSR employees would actively spy on others and report to management I know because it happened to me when I had to deal with another co workers fuck ups on a few occasions saying I caused the problem even though I did not originate the start of the call profile which is electronically recorded. I had other nut jobs go out of their ways to make my team members I had coached look bad when they followed procedure correctly. I was able to play their game against them once they did not like that I started reporting everything against them and one time I had set them up to see if they’d take the bait in which they did. Telling you is be careful watch yourself do your job well and don’t get fooled by kindness of others because behind kindness is nastiness.

No need to trust coworkers. They behave like children and haven't mentally graduated from high school. Trust is built when they show character and morals, it's not charity work.
