Great video, I’d like to mention to not forget to reset your maintenance light for the dash. 1. Put key in ignition 2. Press button on cluster, set it to Trip A 3. Hold down button as you turn the key to ON *There should be blinking dashes where the ODO is* 4. Wait until ODO is Zero’d out

Last time I went to the Valvoline oil change place, I paid around $100+ and I watched the guy pull out my oil filter, looked at it, and then put it back in. I paid $100 and he didn't even change it. To top it off, they gave me a 3000-mile reminder sticker for synthetic. So, i think I am changing my own from now on. Thanks for the video.

@AzenBerries 7 ай бұрын
That 3000 reminder is auto generated because they don't know your driving habits which is why it's say 3k miles later or the date

I agree that oil changes are easy on the older models versus the newer models. I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4 L V6 and I started changing the oil myself three years ago after Covid hit because I didn’t want to take it anywhere. Super easy to change the oil. I’ve always used Pennzoil conventional and then switched to Pennzoil high mileage after I got up to about 80,000 miles and eight years old. I am using Valvoline semi synthetic high mileage oil recently because I can get a great deal from my local store if I buy the oil, oil filter, and the engine or a cabin air filter at the same time. It has 145,000 miles and I change the oil every 4500 miles or 6 months. Still runs great!

2005 taco just like the one in your video. Love it, 217,000 miles, burns no oil. I change it myself, the manual says 5.5 quarts US. I use Napa brand semi synthetic ( made by valvoline, my fave..) I’m a believer in fluidfilm! Have it applied by a shop I trust yearly. She’s holding up great! Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and I’ve had new ones not as good as this taco I bought with 165,000 miles!!! 👍

@AntonioClaudioMichael
@AntonioClaudioMichael 7 ай бұрын
@@ryanlopez4371 there very reliable engines there not power houses but they do have good low end Torque Only time I have seen one die was When a Offroader buddy solid axle swapped his Fj Cruiser with 1 ton axles and put 45 inch tires on it and engine did hundreds of Rock crawling trips and on a 90 degree grade of borders the engine locked up when it over heated and dumped coolant into back 2 cylinders. I would say there dang tough engines and very easy to maintenance. Just my take as a Toyota Tech

Is it better to just fill it up with 5L instead of the 5.2L like in the manual? I just did mine for 5.2L but realized 5.0L like you did in the video probably makes more sense since it just means using one jug as opposed to one and a bit.

the new blue crush washers they use are wierd. You do want to use a full 30ft torque, for some reason those blue crush washers take way less torque to remove. so even if you use a full 30ft torque, they seem to come loose VERY easily. Kinda worrisome. Thanks for the video

Dude, have you done a drain and fill for the tranny? Curious about your service history. I bought my Taco when it had 220 000 km and think it was done around 94 000 but not sure. Any tidbits of wisdom to share with a fellow Canuck? Cheers from NS.

You should always remove the old filter while the oil is draining from the engine. Never drain the engine, replace the drain plug, and then remove and replace the filter. Old oil from the filter will drain back into the engine. Also, when reinstalling the oil filter, 1/4 turn after gasket contact isn't enough.

@@CanadianGearheadOk, so I guess, can you explain it to me? Especially with high mileage cars, and even non-high mileage cars… full synthetic is better for your engine, according to every car guy on the internet. I guess if you change your oil every 3k miles it might not matter that much. But why not spend the extra $20 to get the better oil? Truly not trying to troll you or anything, but I put full synthetic in my 2008 Civic with 120k miles. It seems like the consensus that full synthetic is better for your car. So why not just put the better oil in your car? I’m asking out of curiosity, you’re more of a car guy than I am.

Can't always trust the oil cap all 3rd gen 4runners Orginal oil caps said 10w 30 If you get a new cap from Toyota Now for a 3rd gen 4runner the new oil caps say 5w 30 which is wrong for a 3.4l v6 Toyota started changing all there older vehicles info for oil.. my opinion as a Toyota tech to screw over older vehicle owners in putting to thin of oil in a older engine to blow the engine up to get you to buy a newer vehicle anything older then 2002 will not be 5w 30 but I'm just providing info dosen't pertain to ehat your doing good video @Canadian Gearhead

@@CanadianGearhead I only said it because you mentioned just read the oil cap My suggestion would be Read the manual over what the oil cap says but if a oil cap can be changed manuals can be updated also say you loose the manual buy a new one from Toyota or any manufacturer if the manual has a update to it would be hard to know unless you pay attention to everything.. most people are very un aware of things like that... just my experiences.. 3rd gen 4runners always had green coolant toyota updated it all vehicles from the 80s to now have be changed to the Toyota red coolant so anything can randomly change even of the vehicle was spec'ed with a specific thing when it was made.. just makes you think how many things have randomly changed over the years that wasn't so noticeable..

Just exactly how many Toyota’s do you have? 😂 hey.......🥷🏿 Would you do a discussion about protecting the catalytic converter? I’m about to go nomadica-houseless in my stealth 4Runner and travel five (United) states to an area where there’s a statistically high rate of cat theft. (Not that I’m excited about doing that... it’s just that I have a compelling reason that requires the decision)... BTW, I *really* like your channel, brother. Please keep it up. oh..... Can I get a good mechanic’s manual (not the cheap, generic POS ones you can buy on Amazing-ripoff) for my ‘05 V6 4WD SR5 Sport ..... without having to take out a loan to buy it? Thanks!
