New Sub here. Thank you for all the helpful information. I live 2 hrs away, recently moved here from across the country and thanks to you I will be hitting the Caney with my boat, my kayak and from shore. - Lou

Thank you so much for this video. I'm getting back into fishing as a 49 year old after doing a lot as a kid. I was feeling pretty lost with so many methods out there (trout magnets, inline spinners, drifting power bait, etc) and I just needed someone to show me what to do. My wife and I took our kayaks out to the Caney this weekend, caught fish, and had a blast. I landed an 18" rainbow that was just beautiful and my biggest stream trout ever. I owe ya at least one beer as thanks.

I agree with you. I have fished there for 35+ years. Whatever TWRA deems acceptable is good for fishing and it shows. I’m tired of everyone having a different opinion and thinking you can’t have your opinion. If I want to keep a trout that’s my right to do so. I’m tired of catching crap when I do keep some to eat from fellow fisherman at caney.

Hey thanks for this video. I tried a poor man's version of this today. Didn't have powerbait so I used a yellow bead. Didn't have nightcrawlers but I dug up some earth worms. Still worked!

Thanks for the info. Tryin to learn. Never been on a kayak. Fished all my life,just not kayak. Bout to start tho. Wanna try Collins bad. Just wondering....would putting weight on end of line and hook 6 inches or so up the line work. Might not hang up as much. Idk. I mean i really dont know. Also. Do you think im crazy to start kayak fishing since I'll be 65 tomorrow. I aim to do it! Also aim to try your bbq!
@Betterdaysfishing3 жыл бұрын
Happy birthday! You can kayak the Collins River with mad musky watersports. The setup you're talking about with the weight on the end of the line is called a drop shot. I've tried it I just don't prefer it. It works well in Stillwater. Come see me at the bbq!

Do you ever do any fly fishing out of the kayak?
@Betterdaysfishing4 жыл бұрын
Terribly devastated right shoulder. I'll never fly fish again 😢
@mkanyuh4 жыл бұрын
I have a great tip for y'all....fly fishing out a kayak is ridiculous unless you have a pedal kayak and are amazing at controlling the kayak....BUT....you can buy large streamer flies....or tie your own like I do and fish them on a spinning reel and 6 foot light medium action rod with 6 pound test...fish ALWAYS take flies of one sort or another....now...that ruins the immersive experience of controlling a fly rod....but I am too old and cranky to invest that kind of time anymore....now tying flies is a really enjoyable and large streamers for bass and trout take a lot less technical ability than those tiny dries....and its super exciting when you tie a fly of you own that the fish just attack....they have seen a million spinners...jigs...crankbaits...etc...but a fly of your own invention and color pattern....its new to the fish....just a thought if you want to explore something new

If it's a legal means of fishing, then fish with it. Nothing wrong with live bait. I caught a trout out of there a few weeks ago that had a 3-in gulp minnow in its stomach. No telling how long it had been there or if it would ever be digested or passed. If the trout eats a real worm, it will be digested and not stuck in its digestive system until it kills it. I also caught a warmouth that had a hook sticking out of its rear end that I don't think would have ever come out. So people say leaving a hook in the fish for it to digest or rust out, how accurate is that? The money we pay for our trout stamp is used to stock those trout and if we want to catch them and keep them fine. It's legal.
@Betterdaysfishing3 жыл бұрын
In my experience most hooks don't rust. I've had the unfortunate pleasure of removing some of those from the posterior of fish who are trying to pass them

Handling trout with dry hands, you might as well just keep it. Its gonna die.
@jakehoutz31813 жыл бұрын
You’re making big mistakes still even after all these years. You’re never gonna catch the monsters with that set up. The worm method works for the big browns but not the rainbows. THE BEST FISH COME WHEN THE WATER IS UP.
