Is it a press fit bottom bracket? Love your videos, Shai. Keep making them! All great quality.

Very, very good work. I've hated the hollow in the down tube, man I'm thinking about how much dirty can enter there!

Can't you fill it in with something like a rubber sealant?

I agree there is too big a rush to go 1X drivetrain. For cyclocross dedication it is better since all hills are short or runups. Maybe the 12 speed Eagle will work well but for all the rest 2x is best for much less compromise on speed or climbing. Of course 2x drives tend to get spec'd with 11-28 or 11-32 rear cogset but I think 11-36 with 46/33 or even 50/34 is great for just about anything on or off road gravel grinder.

You are reviewing a lot more adventure and gravel - type bikes lately. I really liked the comparison between the Giant all road and Specialized Diverge along with this video. Can you do review of the Felt V-series as well? The V55, V85, V100. Thank you.

I think this bike would be a good contender for 650x47 (confirmed doable by WTB). 2x9 Sora might have been more ideal at this price if they couldn't have done 1x11 Apex

Going to buy one of these used. Really looks like a great deal for about 600$.

I don't think the Marin crank is too terrible, same as the 32t version on my Marin Bobcat. I think the 42t Apex crank is over 800g so this may have actually been a tad lighter and cheaper.

I have a Gestalt X10. Changed BB, wheels and now I’m looking for a better crankset and chainring specifically Hollowtech 2. I was looking at a Shimano XT but the weight with a chainring may be not that different for the gain in performance. Any recommendation?

I was going to buy one new until I saw this video. Will wait for 2020 if not looking for another brand. Can you recommend me a Gravel between $1,200 and $1,500?, thanks.

I just got myself Gestalt 2, got one question! which new wheelset I can use with this bike? looks like the frame does not support through axle at all!

Please, someone who knows about frame stiffness could explain why that down tube, bottom bracket junction is that way , because i can´t see sense in compromise stifness to pass a cable .

That's exactly what I think about those huge ports just over the BB weld. Weird...

I am certainly not an expert but my frame doesn't have an opening and after getting done riding in a downpour the next day when I took the crank and external bottom bracket out water poured out... had to tilt the frame around to get it all drained. water will always get in, in my case I am guessing most came in through the one internal cable and down the seat post... anyway I would rather have it open to dry/drain. again no expert but I can wield (poorly) but seems like most of the flex/stress would be side to side and its wide and heavily wielded on the sides. If it was only Marin or a few models I may be more worried but I see the open down tube on a bunch of bikes (some pretty high end models) I like the bike and dont mind no name parts (maybe the crank) but I really would want thru axels for $1200 US. great video thanks for taking the time to make it.

I fit 700x38 Maxxis ramblers on mine with no trouble but if you ride in mud I wouldn't go higher than 35s. could probably fit 40s in the front

So, as of July 2017 both the Gestalt 3 and Cannondale Slate are the same price, (on sale), and I was looking at the Marin but after this video i honestly think the Marin is a rip off. Its a £1200 bike, but uses the same frame as the Gestalt 2. I was sort of ok with that until that bit in the video of the downtube/bottom bracket. Its awful!! Marin seem to be cost cutting, using the same frame for their quite expensive bikes.

Fantastic review but geez.....that hole at the bottom bracket...the huge weld marks around it.....1800 grams for the frame!?!? My 2013 CAAD10 has cleaner welds and weighs 1050 grams for the frame (Frame and fork probably weighs less thanthis Marin frame alone. And all of this for $1200, good god. There is a local shop near my house which had 3 CAAD12's in 11sp 105, each for $1200 - completely different bike, but that's what $1200 could also get for ya' Thanks for sharing, Shai!

I like your work but I don't like that bike. It is too expensive for no name parts and that weight. I really can't see what on that bike worth 1200$. No name BB, crankset, cassete, seat, seatpost, stem, handlebar... I hope that will work good for you but you gave too much money.
