I don't know which size they are. If you can't remove them, you might try to cut a groove into them, then use the screwdriver to remove them.

Subscribed. Also, some advice for the lesser experienced: do place your screws/ little parts etc. in some kind of container so they don't roll away and get lost. Work on white surface. Glass baking tray with paper under is good. 😬🖤🤗

You have to use JIS 000 screwdriver instead of PH000. It's slightly different. I started with PH and almost broke screw, but then switch to J000 and everything went flawlessly.

I have a 400 mm 2.8 that got wet so I have some moisture on the glass. can you tell me what I need to get it sorted?
@CamerasLensesEtc3 жыл бұрын
If the moisture in on one of the lens elements inside the lens, then remove the front lens element, and wait until it dries. If the moisture is in the front lens element (maybe it is molded, and the moist is between the two parts) then wait a few days, and it will by dries... and hope that it doesn't leave any residue. Of course, keep the lens in a warm and dry place.

Hi, can this process be used to replace a scratched front lens, are there any special considerations in replacing the lens
@CamerasLensesEtc3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can replace the front lens element using this video, but I would recommend to calibrate the lens after the front lens element has been replaced.
@ronvangorph14403 жыл бұрын
Thank you for you reply. Sorry i am a amateur. Can i calibrate myself, unfortunately or fotunately we live on Norfolk Island, nearest camera repairers are 1500km away, which is why i am considering changing the lens element myself
@ronvangorph14403 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, i could take the lens and new front element to the mainland and have it replaced professionally. I was lucky to get the replacement from Canon for AUD$470.00, and have been quoted AUD$150.00 to have it replaced.
@CamerasLensesEtc3 жыл бұрын
Calibration: you can twist the front lens element, and that way the distance from the other lenses changes, and that is how it can be calibrated. Check the sharpness of the lens at different settings, then choose the one which is the sharpest. Is the 150AUD replacement includes the professional calibration? Because the lens can be calibrated with twisting the front lens element, using the eccentric screws in the lens, and using calibration software (for calibrating the AF). If the 150AUD includes all of that calibration, then I would go with that one.

Hi, do you know where I can get spares for this lens? Apparently the AF and IS module needs replacement and there is also fungus in between lens elements
@CamerasLensesEtc2 жыл бұрын
Check ebay and aliexpress. However, it is quite old lens and I think it is not in production anymore, so consider yourself lucky if you find those parts for it. Alternatively, you can ask the Canon service center in your country, usually they sell repair parts for individuals.
@thespyk2 жыл бұрын
@@CamerasLensesEtc i was afraid you'd say something like that. I got the lens cheap and dirty. The AF works(a little slow but it works), the IS seems fine but I'm shooting so fast I don't give the IS much time to work. Canon locally said they won't even open it. Thanks for the advice and the videos.

I just attempted cleaning the inside of the lens and I touched the inner glass. Seems like it was the IS element as it was moving about. Will touching that glass cause the lens to be out of focus? I reassembled the lens accordingly and I could not get the lens to focus throughout the focal range.
@CamerasLensesEtc2 жыл бұрын
If you pushed that lens element hard, and the lens element actually moved back, then yes, it could cause autofocusing problems. In the past I had this lens which second lens element should be cleaned, I used a cotton swab to clean it, and it did not caused any damage. If you place the lens upwards, and move the lens, the second lens element should move few millimeters around, it is hold at its position by springs.
@demuffin152 жыл бұрын
@@CamerasLensesEtc I see. I might have pushed it too hard. Is there any way to reposition the lens element?

@@demuffin15 Generally, you can buy repair parts on ebay or aliexpress. I would search for "Canon 100-400mm screw", or "Canon screw", maybe the sellers don't put the part number in the ad. Alternatively, you can ask your local lens repair shop for spare parts, maybe they sell that.

@CamerasLensesEtc Yes, I started with Phillips and stripped two of the three screws for the outer cover. Bought a set of JIS drivers and there was a clear difference in fit, also didn't strip anymore out. There is another comment, where the person states having the exact same issue.
