I've been shooting all my videos with an M100 since 2020 and I'm really happy with the results. First with the kit lens, and a 22mm since 2022. The only thing that makes me want to switch to the R series is what you brought up first: proper face recognition AF in 4K mode.

I actually love my M200 and M50! I get compliments on both photos and videos from them. A good lens makes the EF-M look even better. I do only record in 1080/60 though. For 4K, my Lumix cameras are much better.

As I'm not too interested in 4K videoing, the M200 is perfectly fine for filming 1080P for social media channels like YT. The Sigma trio of 'heavy' f1.4 lenses breathed life back into the EF-M format at a time when Canon were already getting cold feet about the mount and lets be fair they are also available on Sony E mount and most APS-C Sony fans seem to be delighted with them. I'm not a great fan of the 16mm, I find it rather large and heavy for what it is even on an M50. You can also get them for MFT I'm sure the 30mm f1.4 would be great for my E-M10 IIIS too. The M200 is largely a cut down M50 without the EVF and a few other features and I wanted an M50-like camera that was smaller, more pocketable and could use the same lenses. All cameras have their shortcomings and I can live with the M200's when others may not.

I've been using the Canon M50 for the last five or six years and I absolutely love it. The in Mount series seem like it would have been pretty great back in the day but I never got into the sigma lenses. I stepped mine up and use EF lenses which still works really well. Never tried the m200 but I absolutely love the M50 even though it has some of the same issues.

Canon APS-C sensors are on par with micro four thirds in performance except the new R7 and R10, they use Sony sensors, but the old ones are no better than GH5 or EM-1M2, in fact, in a lot of stuff the MFT sensor is better specifically dynamic range and noise characteristics...

I have been using the Canon EOS M200 for six months and it is a good option if you want better photo quality than your phone. However, if you plan on taking videos, I would suggest either using your smartphone or buy a different camera that will offer a better hybrid experience.

I also tried Canon, when I started with my first digital SLR in 2009, because of their good name and some reviews. EOS 50D, works nice, then upgraded to the 70D, which was disappointing for me. Then I bought a Lumix FZ1000 for traveling... and loved it. I sold the canon to a friend and went further with the Panasonic.Upgraded to the FZ2000 because of some advantages. I Visited a Sony Alpha day in Stuttgart and was fascinated by the Sony A7-Series. After some more years there came the A7M4 and it became my first full format camera and I love it! It's always with me. So I think, I wouldn't go with the canon anymore, but I think, some one will be very happy to get the M200 from you! 🙂

I think Canon made a mistake when they discontinued the M series. They are very popular. I wanted the M6 so much when it was released but it was until early last year when I finally got to have one. And I loved it even more than my R6, YES! unfortunately last year was also very slow, the slowest year after the pandemic and had to sell it. it was either that or my R6, but the R6 is my work tool, so... I hope Canon comes up with a like M RF camera, because the size, the format, everything was perfect... to me ;)

I have the Canon M100. The one big issue I had is the push button on. Somehow, it would always turn on in my bag and would have a dead battery when I take it out after I got to the location. Thanks for the video.

I have a Canon m200 and also a Sony A6000. It really doesn't seem like a bad camera to me, the biggest problem is the lack of lenses and that Canon abandoned the M mount. The focus in full HD and in photography is much better than that of the A6000 and the A5100 but it also has a touch screen for everything , even the menus, which Sony doesn't have. As for recording in 4K, I use manual focus with the help of focus peaking and I only do it in cases of necessity, normally I record in FhD. It is an economical camera with good features, if I were really going to record in 4K resolution permanently I would look for another option.

I have a Canon M6 Mark 1 and I love it a lot. You get Canon's great colours, lenses, and user experience in a compact body (Aside from the EF-M 55-200mm which is actually pretty bad). And I often pair it with a Canon 270EX II flash. It's so good to have a small camera that has similar colours and functionality as my Canon R. It's just such a shame Canon didn't take the system seriously enough from the start to invest more into it. Too many bodies which never really offered serious upgrades and not nearly enough lenses. It makes a lot of sense why people didn't really buy into it, but when you actually use the cameras and lenses you realise they were fairly well made and had a lot of potential.

@@MarkusPix yes, I saw this video. But this is just about one Fuji camera, which is not very good. Have you considered trying out the more recent and advanced cameras like X-S20, X-T5, X100VI, X-T30II (I guess the X-H2/s would be too bulky for tour taste). And as Fuji has opened their lens mount to 3rd party there are many great lenses, including one of your favorite Sigma 56 f1.4. Do you plan to test more fuji cameras in the future? And what about Nikon? You have so much love for Panasonic and Sony, would be nice to see other too (forget Canon, their APS-C line is horrible, the lense line has great super expensive lenses or optically complete rubish which rely only on in camera corrections)

I am obsessed with trying magic lantern with any canon camera. I love experimenting with canon's line up ( especially the " under spec " ones). Never tried with a m200. Either way 1080 is fine for 99.999% of youtube stuff, right? One day, 20 years from now ... the "perfect" camera will be marketed as such and yet be made to look and feel like my 1980's mickey mouse pocket 110 film camera but with interchangeable lenses, lol.

I don't believe Magic Lantern is about for the M200 yet, if it ever comes. I passed up some really good deals on an M200 after doing research. I wish though! The M200 and M50 would get so much love

Yep, I haven't messed with the code for the m200 and Magic lantern . I am sure it would be possible though without too much of an overhaul. Not sure though. Probably a "re-route" for the M200 processor but the sensor specs and interface controls are almost identical to some of the ML eos models so might not be that much alteration needed. Who knows? Some of the logic behind Canon code is a mystery to all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯@@briandipierro8865

I looked at used EFM cameras recently because surely the rise of the RF offerings would make EFM good deals right? Then I stumbled over sample photos and they don't appear any improvement over my Canon SL1 .. which is older .. yes they are smaller gear, but sharp images appear to be a challenge. I'm sure people have different opinions but that was my discovery.

While i agree with the cropping being an issue and I didn't think my M200 could do any decent blurs with the kit lenses till i bought a 7 artisans 35mmF1.4, the colours, clarity and blur are amazing, even videos are good, and I'm learning to shoot manual in that. Till that time, it's a good buy for me

You did not mention it, but the limitation is low processing power. The M200 functionality is limited by an inexpensive image processing chip. It's enough for 1080 video but woefully inadequate while shooting 4K video. The majority of camera reviews ignore this critical component.

I have an m200 with the 22mm fixed on it 95% of time, and it is a joy of a "point and shoot" or 35mm classy. Yes, it feels solid, but I think that's a good thing, It's plastic on exterior so I think that weight is coming from the interior quality 😂😂

Canon had a great mirrorless system to start out with that culminated in the M5 - a complete 80D in an M body. Which is one reason the M series weighs so heavy. Like adults once it got it's heft, it was hard to lose - simple costs of manufacturing and supply change. But rather listening to Steve Jobs advice (If You Don't Cannibalize Yourself, Someone Else Will) they neutered the future models and let it die a slow death. They also didn't believe in the throat distance, 47mm, was big enough. Of course history in the form of Sony would shortly decimate that thought with a 46.1mm throat for FF. Third, they ended up late to the videography and hybrid market movement. A simple commitment to mirrorless and a branch of the M5 with 4k etc and a lighter form factor would have given them a lead to build on. But the C500 ya know. Just to afraid to admit those days were about to come to a close.

i just bought this camera. i sold my canon t3i, which i loved. i wanted something smaller and easier to carry around. as i have been using the m200, i have begun to absolutely hate it. my t3i was such a better camera and i regret selling it now. all my pictures and videos from my m200 look like they were taken on an iphone. its horrible. they come out SO GRAINY and never sharp no matter the lighting. IDK what to do :-(

It's a pity Canon killed the M-line. They say the new R-series is the replacement. And it's not, the R cameras are bigger and heavier with that huge mount and larger lenses. I think the real reason Canon killed M-line is because the cameras/lenses were too cheap for them to make good profit.

The problem with the Canon M series is the lenses. The Sigma lenses are all good, and the Canon primes are OK (the Canon zooms are wallowing in sweaty pools of lameness). I had the speedbooster too, but a honking EF L glass lens on a Canon M camera defeats the whole purpose. On the other hand, you can get stupid fast exposure times and film by candle light. I gave mine away to my niece because she is super talented and did not own her own camera. I don't want another APS-c camera. I either shoot full frame or Micro Four Thirds when I want lightweight. But it is a really nice camera that will make someone happy. You can put Magic Lantern on many of the Canon M cameras, but not all of them. I don't remember about the 200.

Pretty much Canon in a nutshell, always crippled beyond help. They are good for pictures, but so are every camera LOL. In fact, a lot of cameras do pictures BETTER, so there is that too
