I've been wanting Canoo to succeed since they had the concept come out a few years back. Now seeing it this pre-production model, I absolutely want to see them get this done. I love everything about the Canoo... except the powertrain, which is, unfortunately, garbage, according to their website's stats. Range of 200 miles, Charging speed 20%-80%(120 miles) in 28 mins (Teslas get 100 miles in 10 mins). It could work for in-town transit, with a fast-charger at home-base, which is what they're mostly aiming for, it seems. But definitely disappointing, in that regard. Hope they make improvements to efficiency.

I'd call it an adult minivan, but its a great design for families too. This thing crushes everything else in practicality. I am certainly tired of the lack of leg room for passengers in sedans. At $40k, why buy an EV sedan over this? SUVs don't even offer this legroom.
@_PatrickO Жыл бұрын
@@johnnymonsters9717 Definitely needs NACS. Most charging is at home. Stick with the connector that is the most user friendly. I don't think this is correct. Tesla is already in the business of upgrading their cars. I am already way happier with my Tesla simply because one year after I bought it it did not become obsolete because the new model has a tweaked infotainment system and there is no way for me to upgrade without using shitty 3rd party stuff like Mercedes did. In fact I already have one computer upgrade under the belt. I expect a camera upgrade and another computer upgrade at some point as well. It would however be interesting if Canoo can truly make it so modular that I can upgrade the drive train, battery, seats, everything over time and constantly be getting a refresh of some part that wore out to the latest version.

Why would Canoo over engineer the dc charging system when the charging infrastructure doesn’t exist to support it? Is that the fault of the vehicle itself? This platform has a very special bit of versatility - it's been selected by NASA to be the new Astrovan for transporting astronauts to the launchpad for the Artemis Moon missions. It will be a veer special modification, I'm sure, but this platform should handle it nicely. Bonus: this LOOKS like a vehicle for astronauts to ride in.

Form follows function. That’s what I love about the Model 3’s look. It looks that way to make it efficient. I love that. Personally, I think the minivan is the best overall vehicle, ever. Much more flexible and functional than any SUV or pickup. Our 13 years with a minivan are full of great memories, adventures and amazements. When a viable EV minivan comes into the US, I’ll be there to check it out. Including this vehicle!

This is the first EV that I actually like. And now that I got to see more detail, see the factory and the professional appearance of the workforce, i'm also impressed. Munro is a smart guy who I value his opinions and tend to agree with him on just about everything he says. I wish Ford would have allowed more expression from their engineers. I'm a loyal Ford customer, but if this vehicle was an option for me, I would buy it for sure. Great design and engineering should be the #1 decision in a major purchase.

I've really been impressed with the recent evolution of EVs in the market, and it's amazing there are so many out there now to choose from, albeit most are essentially unaffordable to most people at the moment. Canoo really captured my interest the most when they came out a few years back. Then I completely lost interest when they said it would be a subscription only model for sales. Then they came back a few years later and said they'd be ditching the subscription model and selling them. I really would love to have one of these. And I understand Walmart, NASA, and others have placed large orders for these, so I hope that gets them over the production hump and into the mainstream market. Fingers crossed.

I'm impressed that Sandy is so impressed. I drove an Isuzu flatbed for work for a bit, and I absolutely loved the turning radius and visibility that the cabover design has, and I've always wanted a pickup with that same design. Honestly the only complaint could be the range, but we'll see how real world tests work out for that
@roveriia6334 Жыл бұрын
I too noticed how impressed Sandy was then I realized he did not challenge Toni such as adding a seat behind the front seat without asking how did they address the additional mass in a crash test? The side facing seats in a head on crash? I thought it was a softball interview/review. To add I also saw a start up trying to do too many things. I will watch the stock but see a company that needs focus.

I think the actual ID Buzz short version has more cargo area. Edit: they say canoo cargo is about 130 cu ft, ID Buzz Cargo is 137.7 cu ft so just a bit less unless they where rounding.
@xxwookey Жыл бұрын
@@YKSGuy Interesting. I was wondering which had more space. I've decided to wait for the Buzz cargo long, and live with some junker for 2 years until it's out (or something better comes along like the 105kWh/300 mile sprinter).
@YKSGuy Жыл бұрын
@@xxwookey I suspect the efficiency of the long buzz will be much better than an e Sprinter depending what you are looking to use it for. Bjørn has some good data on the short ID Buzz on long highway drives ETC. The shape / aerodynamics matter a lot on these vehicles, as well as the battery systems.

Agreed, this is much closer to a real spiritual successor to the Vanagon than that ID Buzzkill. Maybe the LWB ID Buzz will be better but I was very disappointed that VW is trying to sell an overpriced, slow, short ranged grocery cart for $50k+.

The rear facing seats remind me of the OLD NYC yellow cabs. Some of them had two rear-facing fold down seats, so four or five people, especially a couple with children, could all fit in. It was always a treat to ride in one, instead of a conventional bench-seat-only. Incredible feature!

Unfortunately, sitting in those seats requires that the front seatbacks be leaning forward too much for someone to be sitting in front at the same time.

They do not have seatbelts. They are primarily for tailgating. The side facing seats are the ones with the seatbelts and can be used while the vehicle is in motion.

That is a fantastic one-of-a-kind type of vehicle. People need to see more of this because I think Canoo is not getting enough exposure and so is definitely under rated. Before this video, I never thought it would perform like that. I also didn't know what's inside and all those fantastic features.
