I've been wanting Canoo to succeed since they had the concept come out a few years back. Now seeing it this pre-production model, I absolutely want to see them get this done. This is a fantastic idea all around. So many use cases and such incredible practicality. If they price this right it will change the industry.

I love everything about the Canoo... except the powertrain, which is, unfortunately, garbage, according to their website's stats. Range of 200 miles, Charging speed 20%-80%(120 miles) in 28 mins (Teslas get 100 miles in 10 mins). It could work for in-town transit, with a fast-charger at home-base, which is what they're mostly aiming for, it seems. But definitely disappointing, in that regard. Hope they make improvements to efficiency.

Fantastic job Canoo! Back in the late '60 I had a VW Campmobile. It was fun and the truck like driving position made me feel half blind when I drove my wife's regular car. This Canoo blows my old Campmobile, and the new VW van, out of the water. If Canoo doesn't bring out a camper version I'm sure other companies will be lining up to covert Canoos into campers.

I seriously want Canoo to bring these out, I love the design. Its so different, so out there compared to what normal companies make. Canoo has a really interesting product and I think it can be very successful if they keep the price down and the options/quality up. If this thing could get 300+miles and be 25-40k it would sell very well .

I'd call it an adult minivan, but its a great design for families too. This thing crushes everything else in practicality. I am certainly tired of the lack of leg room for passengers in sedans. At $40k, why buy an EV sedan over this? SUVs don't even offer this legroom.
@_PatrickO
@_PatrickO Жыл бұрын
@@johnnymonsters9717 Definitely needs NACS. Most charging is at home. Stick with the connector that is the most user friendly. Sell a NACS to ccs adapter like tesla for the times you want to use a ccs charger that still hasn't added a NACS cable alongside the ccs cable. CCS will all be NACS within 5 years. Once one major company switches to NACS, they will all do it in quick succession (except gm).

Really glad to see that Canoo gave second-hand ownership a lot of thought, considering both upgradeability and repairability, even to the point where individual battery packs can be replaced in the event of a crash. Hopefully more electric car companies will follow suit; I always believe that there should be no conflict between high tech and repairability; it's just the industry standard holding it back, it's time for a change!

I don't think this is correct. Tesla is already in the business of upgrading their cars. I am already way happier with my Tesla simply because one year after I bought it it did not become obsolete because the new model has a tweaked infotainment system and there is no way for me to upgrade without using shitty 3rd party stuff like Mercedes did. In fact I already have one computer upgrade under the belt. I expect a camera upgrade and another computer upgrade at some point as well. It would however be interesting if Canoo can truly make it so modular that I can upgrade the drive train, battery, seats, everything over time and constantly be getting a refresh of some part that wore out to the latest version.
@rogerstarkey5390

@@dirkbester9050 Re the "modular upgrade" . I've suggested that's what will happen with the Tesla Taxi Fleet *They* (or maybe a company they buy? ..... Hertz?) will run it. Eventually, they reach "peak vehicle", (250-300 million is only 12-15 years) At that point, with batteries outlasting the shell, vehicles come to a refurb centre for:- Full diagnostic. Body off. Interior removal. 4 new suspension units. New interior. Body on. Replacement panels if required. New wrap (no paint) Diagnostic/ alignment, etc. Out the door. . This will be in a few of the old Gigafactories (or a small area within the closest location) . Removed components (suspension units, seats, etc) will be refurbished in house ready for the next vehicle. will be refurbished. It might still work for in-town transit but not more than that. @@catbert7 I think your comparing apples to oranges a little, a model y is built and designed as an SUV, a single purpose, whilst the Canoo is a van platform engineered in such a way to be potentially produced for multiple utilizations. Sure you can get 100miles of range into a model y in 10 minutes using Tesla level 4 charging stations - that is the beauty of Tesla they make EVs and provision a charging infrastructure. Why would Canoo over engineer the dc charging system when the charging infrastructure doesn’t exist to support it? Is that the fault of the vehicle itself? I can’t say much about the overall range of the canoo but 200 miles of actual range would be respectable for the pack size, the wltp figure for a model Y? You might come close to it on a good day…. I'm disappointed in humans ditching the comfortable and practical MPV for SUVs. And in European cities, on some alleys and parking lots even 4.85m is big enough. I had a chance to see the delivery version similar to the one in the factory made for Walmart here in Bentonville, Arkansas. full width pull out sliding drawers for plastic delivery bins, lots of room, great ideas. Seeing the replaceable battery modules seems like a great idea. Tesla might disagree with their newer sealed and part of the frame battery. Canoo has, up till now, dumped lots of money into prototypes but needs to get what seem like good ideas into production with something that is reliable and lots of them. I was pretty well sold on the Cybertruck. After seeing this thing (and especially the pickup version) I’m definitely re-examining that. This vehicle is really, really impressive! A major selling point for me is that the batteries are modular, so that replacing them shouldn’t be as expensive as a Tesla

I wonder if they can get that idea through the regulations? Sandy mentioned the guy with the self balancing wheelchair, what he didn't mention was he sold the design to Johnson and Johnson, (I think) but they eventually gave up because regulatory organizations kept demanding endless "safety" features.

This thing has no ramp. So if you’re a wheelchair user, you’re screwed. Notice how narrow the doors are? Which gets worse because they mount those jump seats to the doors. Wheelchair bound people will have an ordeal trying to get in and out.

All they need for interiors is just a whole bunch of lock down positions. That would allow all sorts of 3rd party people to make seating options and let the buyer customize easily for their own exact use case. I would want 3 seats and the rest of the space for bicycles and wheelchairs. That’s likely pretty unique, but everyone is likely to be pretty unique.

@@hemaccabe4292 This is ONE version of this van, it is extremely customization. True, the battery pack means you can't do the sort ramp that is used in most minivan conversions, bu that's true of any "skateboard" EV.

Form follows function. That’s what I love about the Model 3’s look. It looks that way to make it efficient. I love that. Personally, I think the minivan is the best overall vehicle, ever. Much more flexible and functional than any SUV or pickup. Our 13 years with a minivan are full of great memories, adventures and amazements. When a viable EV minivan comes into the US, I’ll be there to check it out. Including this vehicle!

Munro is a smart guy who I value his opinions and tend to agree with him on just about everything he says. I wish Ford would have allowed more expression from their engineers. I'm a loyal Ford customer, but if this vehicle was an option for me, I would buy it for sure. Great design and engineering should be the #1 decision in a major purchase.

I've really been impressed with the recent evolution of EVs in the market, and it's amazing there are so many out there now to choose from, albeit most are essentially unaffordable to most people at the moment. Canoo really captured my interest the most when they came out a few years back. Then I completely lost interest when they said it would be a subscription only model for sales. Then they came back a few years later and said they'd be ditching the subscription model and selling them. I really would love to have one of these. And I understand Walmart, NASA, and others have placed large orders for these, so I hope that gets them over the production hump and into the mainstream market. Fingers crossed.

I'm impressed that Sandy is so impressed. I drove an Isuzu flatbed for work for a bit, and I absolutely loved the turning radius and visibility that the cabover design has, and I've always wanted a pickup with that same design. I too noticed how impressed Sandy was then I realized he did not challenge Toni such as adding a seat behind the front seat without asking how did they address the additional mass in a crash test? The side facing seats in a head on crash? I thought it was a softball interview/review. To add I also saw a start up trying to do too many things.
