Good review , good to see someone calling it as they see it and not sugar coating the negatives.

Would have been nice to see a steeper seat angle in the XC mode and a slacker HA in the descending mode. Going from a 65-66.5 would have been ideal. Otherwise looks like a really versatile bike!

Good looking bike... I wonder if this is one of those things which performance looks promising on the graphics, boards and computer but very hard to perceive on the trail for the average rider? 😶... I mean, how much faster can you be by adjusting on the go +/-10mm and +/-1 degree only? Compared to other components (e.g. stem, fork, rotors, handlebar, headset spacers) it takes a minimum of 20mm variations to start perceiving any difference. Anyhow, it is cool to see manufacturers trying new things.

Good honest review . Basically apart from value there is no point in buying this bike compared to other brands ?
@yofoo1385 жыл бұрын
I just got this bike and I had the SB150, Ripmo, Offering, and a lot of other bikes and let me tell you the canyon strive is as beast of an animal as the competition he listed instead of you reaching down to your rear shock to lock it out canyon made the shapeshifter a night and day difference in a bike so it’s like buying 2 bikes in one
@j_motto5 жыл бұрын
@@yofoo138 I'm torn between this and the intense primer as my go-to all around. I'm sure you are still in love since its only been a short time, but honestly is this something that is going to be comfortable for long trail rides in the xc mode or is it more of a DH focused enduro that can pedal well for a short time in between stages?
@yofoo1385 жыл бұрын
J Moto in all honesty you can pedal this bike all day long if you want in the 130 travel mode totally feels like a Trail/XC bike a little firm but totally nice to pedal all around and if it gets to chunky you switch that bad boy and wow what a difference it’s seriously night and day

Will it not make it harder for local bike mechanics to do work on this bike as the shapeshifter system seems like it might be hard to do work on

Looks great! One thing I don't understand is why you're comparing it to the traditional bike shop brands when most people in the market for a Strive are probably comparing it to another direct to consumer bike that remained unmentioned, the YT Capra. How does it compare?
@MBRmagazine6 жыл бұрын
Personally i haven't ridden the Capra other than around the car park as the one we have as a longtermer is too big for me, hence why I didn't mention it, but it's definitely biased towards descending compared to the Strive. Arguably it has better parts (CF Pro Race), the weight is similar and it's £300 cheaper. If we get a size large in I'll be sure to do a comparision - Danny

Looks like a very interesting bike. But for me the complexity of the shapeshifter system is just too much. Manufacturers have been making fantastic all round MTB's for years & they get better all the time. I think this is taking it too far. It's another aspect to think about whilst riding, another thing to go wrong & maintain. Not for me.
@lrvz71875 жыл бұрын
While I agree with your point, the mountain bike as we know it today it kinda has reached his limits other than improved geometry, the only way I see to keep improving is for company's to bring stuff like the shapeshifter, yeti infinity link etc, etc, even if short term doesn't work for whatever reason, if we could travel in the future like 100 years, we couldn't recognize MTB's and for sure they will have some huge improvements

it only needs a service once every like 300 hours of riding, and u get used to the shapeshifter just like the dropper post

Will i as an not that experienced rider notice a big difference between xc and dh mode?
@Taylor50846 жыл бұрын
Mr Mosch I have the 650b 2018 version and the two modes make a bike difference in how the bike handles. The suspension is more stiff and has less pedal Bob in XC mode. The DH mode feels very plush. I am not the best rider in the world however, feel I really benefit from both settings and definitely feel the difference. Not sure how the new one rides however, the 2018 version is a great bike.

Given how progressive the previous strive was in the last part of the travel, I wonder how much of that extra 10 mm of rear travel one could actually use by installing a longer stroke shock since the leverage would go even more progressive in the last 10 milimeters. Why do you journalists assume the role of experts and engineers when it comes to stuff like this? Or do you really think that bike geometry and suspension design is done by downing jaeger bombs? Maybe you guys should limit yourself to pints AFTER work...
@MBRmagazine6 жыл бұрын
Well, we rode the new Strive with one and two volume spacers (it comes stock with one) and preferred it with two and still got full travel. And we don't assume the role of experts - it was Fabien Barel who told us that the Canyon Enduro Team would be running a longer stroke shock. Why do you think that experts and engineers will be given free reign to produce the bike they want without the influence or veto of sales and marketing? There will always be a push-pull with big brands hence why it's taken so long for geometry to evolve.
@lux-30016 жыл бұрын
@@MBRmagazine Oh, okay, now I understand that Barel was the source of this info. In the video it was said it was your assumption that the pro riders will run extra travel. Do you still find my comment out of order? Cheers and ride on!
