I miss those days! I was born and raised in Connecticut. Dad and I used to fish the Cape a lot. Love me some blues and striper. Great video.

Nice video and nice fish. I live in southern NJ, the spring striper spawn migration from the Delaware Bay is just about over- very scattered reports now. A nice wave of fish are being caught along the beaches in SJ - you guys up north along the atlantic still have time. The really big fish were down here about 3 weeks ago. One of the best springs ever. Keep up the content 👍

Gorilla blues should start running soon as well. Great time for fishing on the east coast !

Way to grind for that fish. Nothing quite like that jig getting smoked

Check out the reports. They may have moved further south down the coast.

I am very new to all of this stuff, and my buddy and I would like to take a road trip up to cape cod this summer. How are the striper/bluefish conditions beginning of august? When would be the best time to go otherwise? What are the best conditions to fish in? I’m seeing mixed responses all over the internet. Awesome video man. You’ve earned a new subscriber👍

You would probably have the best opportunity for striped bass in October during the fall run. Blue fish will probably end up being the best bet during the summer. I would talk to local bait and tackle shops in the area and see what's being caught and what patterns they have noticed with the fish. Hard for me to give you a better answer being I don't live on the east coast anymore.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I will definitely do my research and plan ahead for October. Thanks for the info… I’ll stick to LMB fishing through the summer😂

Nothing wrong with a little large mouth fishing. We'll be going out this weekend to do some large mouth and Trout fishing on the kayaks for the channel. As for the October run I'd look too see when the new moon phase will be that month and try to plan your trip around that. Early morning and right before sun set is always your best bet too! Make sure to bring some spiked boots for the rocks out there because they get real slick

How big was that fish and weight?
@T.D.F.Outdoors Жыл бұрын
Didn't measure or weigh it. From the feel and size of it it was most likely in the 35-40lbs range

Just curious, why not follow the fish down the rocks? Is it an etiquette thing there where you’re supposed to stay in the same position while fighting a fish
@T.D.F.Outdoors Жыл бұрын
The rocks make it really hard to follow the fish being there so slippery so it's safer to try to hold ground and fight the fish that way

Nice catch Can I pick your brain about gear and setup?

I was using a tsunami airwave elite 10' rod and Van Staal VR 125. 30lb braid line and 40lb leader. Used a 4oz jig head with savage gear plastic sand eel 🎣

So wildly inappropriate for the canal lol, but if you’ve never been to the canal and then experience the difference between an open surf striper and one with 4-5 knots at its back it’s really hard to quantify just how hard they pull. Add in the fact that the train bridge area is the narrowest part of the canal as well and the current cranks. This is by no means a dig at you either man, it’s all part of the learning experience. I have a video of probably one of the top 3 hardest fighting 40lb fish in 25 years at the canal and I was using a 11’ jigster extreme, Saltiga 6500, 50lb braid, 80lb leader, and still got proper bent over!!! Congratulations on the fish of a lifetime. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4TTlHWdo7VsjqM

Why do y'all stand so far from the waters edge is there a regulation or something?
@T.D.F.Outdoors Жыл бұрын
The rocks are extremely slippery so it's just easier and safer to stand a little further back

@@T.D.F.Outdoors makes sense I figured that would be the response but just wasn't sure TBH.. how do carbide cleated boots fair against the slime rocks?

They do pretty well. Definitely help out when fishing the rocks in Montauk
