Gordon, I am rewatching the build so far with my 86 year old Father in Law. He is a car guy from way back. When Gene Winfield was on BAD CHAD, he remember reading hot Rod mags about GENE. He Always Bought cars that were a little rough for his sons and fixed them up, mostly engine stuff. He bought more reliable cars for my wife when she was in school just like any good dad. He is enjoying your build.

Gordon I was an AWS QC-1 weld inspector on the US Air Force minuteman III missile program and certified all position welder for the Boeing Aircraft Co. for 30 years, you in my eyes are the real deal welder,, The cap fit was fabricated like a pro and you practice the 5 P's of production, "PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS PISSPOOR PERFORMANCE" Thanks for sharing your project with us.

🇳🇴 Well,i have now watched all videos of this build. I think the car is a bit to short,but it might work,haha. The way i se it,the roof should be choped some,and/or leand a bit backwords? To help with the proportions. That bar you held up,make another and use maskingtape and paper to help se the end result of the roof. I bet this car gonna look great when it is done.
@myclassicfords3658

Thanks a lot for watching! Yes it’s a bit short yet, I think after I stretch the front it should look about the same portion as a Shelby Dayton coupe… or I hope!

Looking good I really like the direction it's going. In my opinion you have the body where it would work even as a convertible, however I havent seen you address the unibody structure as such. The strength comes from underneath in a unibody car. Someone mentioned getting a professional welder to do some of the work. That made me say "what?" I weld often and I can say you are indeed a professional welder. I'm enjoying your channel, keep up the good work ,but keep it fun, it's too easy to burn out on a project.
@myclassicfords3658

Yes between the sills,trans tunnel/floor and roof unibody all needs to tie together in order to be strong. Haha, I think I can pass as a professional welder. I’ve been welding for a long time, I won a 1st place provincial award in 4H when I was 12 years old. I’ve been a professional/ticketed welder for 13 years, and weld and fabricate every day! Thanks for watching Larry!

Looking good. Your weak point is still at the top of your B pillar. The strength will be in the roof and how you lock it to the back end. I seen a guy strengthen the body running roll cage tube at the hight of the seat base.. this is how he strengthen his coupe. The welding affecting the audio.. you must have a professional welder. You flash seams five times brighter than other utbers.. can you make a smoke glass deflector shield for the end of your tip. Something that slips over and can be removed for tight spots. I'm sure you could pattern them. Lol. Maybe I get me some welding glasses . Lol. Good to see you back. Good luck. 👍

Thanks for watching! And yup it’s a pretty decent welder, I use it a lot for heavy steel fab/welding. And your right the roof structure needs to be fabricated into the pillar,I’m thinking 1/8” square tube is about the same strength as what’s currently there. And im thinking of framing the whole back of the car with it, then welding it to the frame connectors.

@@myclassicfords3658 👌 ye think it's a good idea. Put the sub structure in . Then fake in the shape. Give you a little more free hand to sculpt. Check out the Triumph GT 6 back end. Similar to Daytona. I looked for this guy in california that strengthened up the coupe. He did a nice job. But can't find his channel no more. I keep looking for ya. Have a good day. 👍

I think I read that you are considering lengthening the nose on this build ? Perhaps , if you were to remove the front suspension and, move it forward along ( leaving the grille to base of windshield distance intact ) , with moving the wheel openings instead . That way you would gain some 'wheelbase' back and still get that long hood/short deck with a less frontal overhang look without doing too much structural work underneath . The front axle center-line would help with weight distribution without making the nose too overwhelming for the the rest of the car from the windshield back . My 'two cents . '

Looking great. Could you please get a picture of the profile meaning the SIDE of the car from a bit of a distance? Just so viewers can see the scale of the modification viewed from end to end. Thank you! (Also, just my vote but, hard pass on fastback style, XKE type sloping roofline to the rear. Betterer=Short roof. Keep the trunk. Jmo.)

Looking good, but🤔 I never like to see anyone beating with a pretty big hammer to make anything fit….. I would rather see you take the ZIP cut and actually shrink the piece of metal you’re putting in. But I sure do like where you’re going with this build !! 👏🙂✌🏼😎

Yes a typically don’t use anything quite that aggressive but that metal I’m using is closer to 1/8” then sheet metal! It needs quite a smack to bend, but I made sure it fit on it own and didn’t force it into the car. Thanks for watching!

That wheel well you are using for support is only sheet metal..it’s not structural…going to bend under force..

That’s only the start, time I get done every part of that car will be welded together. And remember it was made from sheet metal before I started, the pillar is made from sheet metal as well. But by the time I get that tied to the floor and the roof and add square tube frame connectors front to back I think it should be stronger than it ever was. Thanks for watching!
