Have to admit though I can't blame Riker for saying "Data, that's suicide" - after all it seems like total nonsense to drop the shields, no? But knowing Data, and the way Data said it so resolutely, gotta trust him. Between Picard and Worf they got it done.

what i love about Mr. Data is that he never dismisses kids as most adults do, as an android he sees every piece of knowledge as valuable and can discern from useful and non useful information. He always listens as well.

True. Troi's first thought was take the kid away to somewhere safe where he'd not see and hear the catastrophe going on!

I usually HATE children in Sci Fi and Horror shows. However, this was one of the better moments where the kid didn't put every adult in earshot in danger or turn out to be wise beyond their years to the point of being obvious. I really like how we got a glimpse into the mind of a child and how adults can help children understand their world better. On the flip, side the kid's "Hero" moment was not some over the top moment but something believable. Confronting the stuff you were suppressing, and using it to your advantage.
@jacksonheathen20923 жыл бұрын
Personally, I couldn't stand this sniveling brat. But the all time worst kid in Sci-fi has to be Bill Mumy. I hated him as the creepy kid in the original Twlight Zone who made people disappear, and I hated him as Will Robinson in the '60's Lost in Space series.

So perfect. Riker reacts logically. Picard trusts Data and Worf trusts Picard and Data enough to bet the ship on it. Nobody’s shouting, everyone’s stressed, understandably, but are still acting professionally.

That's what's called, having trust in your crew. Picard trusted that Data was correct. Few leaders have the confidence in themselves to defer to a subordinate in a crises.

Some of the best episodes of all the Star Trek shows involved children. Picard trapped in the lift with the science fair winners, Molly O'Brien disappearing in the vortex and coming out a teenager. Neelix entertaining the children with a ghost story. Great episodes.

Giving Picard the character trait "hates children" in the pilot was pretty weird (Rodenberry was pretty weird) but this lead to a great character arc for Picard who learns to be great with kids even though it does not come naturally for him.

The show had to pull out all stops in the script department to make dialog as time consuming and melodramatic as possible. They didn't have the budget for as many special effects shots so they had to have the actors make up the difference.

I appreciate how much the episode focused on the crew members telling Timothy that he wasn’t responsible for the ship’s destruction. Usually when it doesn’t turn out to be the truth, that part of such an episode of a show or film would be much more brief before the story moves on for some reason.

Hey captain this kid has extreme PTSD and is cosplaying as an android to hide from emotional trauma, can I bring him to the most sensitive area of the ship where decisions that could kill the over 1000 crew happen? Sure fam, get him a little uniform it's adorable.

If it's a feedback loop, then the current wave is feedback from the previous impact, not the one that hasn't yet happened. The Enterprise should've still been destroyed.

No, it's not if you had transferred the warp power. You did. If he hadn't listened to Data and, most of all, trusted him, they all would have been killed.
@circa813 жыл бұрын
I get the gist of what they're saying, but the way the word this, about the computer requiring a code for access, makes it sound like you need to input a code to input anything on a panel, which ofcourse you can't do becuase the code hasn't been inputted yet. Plus we rarely see crew members needing codes, and when we do it's always voice codes.
@svavarkjarrval87573 жыл бұрын
In The Drumhead, they mention the Klingon exchange officer logging in via his badge. It's probably automatic.
@circa813 жыл бұрын
@@svavarkjarrval8757 Well that's not really a matter of the computer needing you to enter a code for access, that's more like using a those car keys that you keep in your pocket to ensure the engine starts. The dialogue here is clear that it has to be a deliberate action that you can't accidentally do.
@svavarkjarrval87573 жыл бұрын
@@circa81 My point is that he wouldn't be able to log in, or at least not log in with that kind of access.
@circa813 жыл бұрын
@@svavarkjarrval8757 Yeah, like I said I get what the point they were making was, it's just the way they worded how that works is odd if you think about it.
@svavarkjarrval87573 жыл бұрын
@@circa81 The out of universe explaination is probably whatever method serves the flow of the story. The in universe one might be that some commands require voice authorization or it's quicker than going to a panel to log in even though it would be possible if desired.
