Jack isn't the reason I first started watching Who, but he was a significant element in me falling in love with it. To a thoroughly closeted teenage me, he was glorious LGBT+ representation. My favorite moment doesn't actually have him in it. For context, you'll need to know that, for sci-fi reasons, Jack becomes immortal (sort of). The Doctor is talking to another immortal character and off-handedly mentions Jack. When she asks, "Who?" the Doctor just sighs and says, "He'll get around to you eventually."

Jack is a character that would show up for an episode here or there, then be off doing his own thing. As has been said, he ended up with his own spinoff that was definitely more adult themed. The character is omnisexual and the actor, John Barrowman, is fabulous! He's gone on to be in the Arrowverse on the CW as Malcolm Merlin and he has his own singing career as well. While Doctor Who might seem like a daunting project to get into, given that it began in 1963, a good place to start is the revival in 2005, especially since the English seasons are only about thirteen episodes, and there weren't always shows every year. Torchwood had four seasons (the last one was on Starz), and it is definitely a fun show to get into.

Doctor Who and its spin-offs are definitely worth a watch. Captain Jack Harkness, a self-proclaimed pan-sexual. He doesn't care about gender or species, they just have to be available and willing, and he is ready to show them a good time.
