Watched it thanks to the link provided. 👍🏻 Quite touching, very well done. Something like that is needed with SW. But I don't understand the story & context here. Haven't watched what came before. And I haven't watched everything of "Discovery", because it's total shite, and about nothing of "Not-Picard", so I'm missing a lot, I guess. Most important question, what could be the reason for Kirk to come back, just to say goodbye to Spock? As mentioned, there seems to be connections to V'ger from the 1st movie (my personal Number 1 ST thing, ST6 being a close 2nd), so that detail is interesting. I hope this get's explained later on. There's more coming, I guess.

The fact that there wasn't any dialogue other than the narration, makes this that much better. You're able to feel and see the emotions of the people that Kirk comes in contact with, to include Kirk himself.

This short film is a reminder that fast cutting and therapy-speak are no substitute for pure cinema's use of images and raw emotions on an actor's face. If only that level of maturity could be applied to a modern Star Trek production. I don't count new series with new actors as being in the same timeline: they're very welcome to exist as another reality. This short was the Star Trek I grew up with and I love. Some of my earliest memories of Star Trek are from the late 1970s. I'll be 50 in a few weeks - not far off Kirk's crisis age in Star Trek II. This was a real gut punch of a film. A thing of beauty. It was needed.
@tomasjoconnel5367Ай бұрын
I think one can overlook those little imperfections, and whatever angle you look at it from, I think you'll agree, it was a damn good way of rounding off the characters, and bringing them around full circle. In my case, it brought me around to where I started watching it first time, almost 50 years ago. It is a nice way to honour, not just the characters, but all of us fans as well.

This was such great moment for us fans and brings back so many fond memories... My mom would have loved this. We were both Star Trek fans since it first aired. I took her to see Deforest Kelly at the Statler Hilton Hotel StarTrek Convention. He saw us in the audience and called my mom on stage and put his arm around her. (I'll never forget the smile on my mom's face!) He was so nice to her... (R.I.P. to both of them.) Years later, I went with my friend to the 1st STtng convention also at the Statler Hilton Hotel. We decided to take a break and went to the local bar to have a few drinks... When we sat down, to our surprise, sitting across the bar was Johnathan Frakes. I bought him a drink, and said, "We're just fans!" He raised his and we did a toast together. It was awesome! (I didn't want to bother him anymore, so I left him alone and went back to the convention with my friend.) Later on, after his appearance, Johnathan was walking though the crowd. He saw us and walked over to us, just to shake our hands. (I didn't even think he would remember our faces let alone go to trouble to shake our hands!) (We were all so young then...) Thanks for this marvelous masterpiece that stirs up so many fond memories of those whom we've lost/ have touched our lives and warm out hearts forever...❤🖖

I saw Star Trek Generations in a movie theater. It was November 1994. The DTS Surround Sound whipped my head back and forth. There was a mini-Star Trek convention in the lobby. Someone in the movie theater played Jerry Goldsmith music before the film started. There was a trailer for a Michael Keaton movie. The visual effects were a mix of ILM and Wavefront. Watching this was bringing back memories as a child seeing Generations for the first time in theaters with my dad and balling my eyes out with the destruction of the D and the death of Kirk. My great great grandmother would let me watch the original series when it ran on syndication on TV every time I visited her as a child. As a child I think I was fourth grade give or take a year when Star Trek started and I was fascinated and my parent couldn’t understand and my siblings didn’t understand but for me I was the youngest of four that show meant everything. I remember listening to one of Mr. Spock’s records he put out on vinyl and I still have it to this day and I’m now 68 almost 69 and I have it framed. When it went off the air I was devastated and then when it showed up years later in the motion picture it was OK but it was just so different but then when they brought back the wrath of con that’s when everything started to click. I’ve watched mostly everything that is Star Trek related except I won’t have anything to do with the cartoons. I watched this short video and yes I had tears and I was overwhelmed and it was done absolutely beautiful. Live long and prosperous as Mr. Spock use to say. 🖖🏼

Generations is one of my favourite of all the great screen adventures, and it also resonates with me on a personal level, as me and my wife have no children, and ... Well to be fair a lot of that is done in secrecy with little details surfacing unless they actually publish something to tease it. And i really like that approach or being as lowkey as possible and then simply blowing everything away with the final result. I largely stayed ignorant about their work too until every now and then something gets released and i always have a good feeling in my tummy. They don't have to brag constantly. They seem to be very confident about the quality of what they are working on and what they have to offer and for all the right reasons. The impact is even bigger without all the weeks full of PR campaigns you would usually see with hollywood productions.

Thirty years ago I was 13 years old and my Dad took me to see "Generations" at a midnight preview. It was such an event there was a news crew there, and I was interviewed for the local news paper. One of the things I was quoted as saying was, "It was sad not to see Kirk and Spock together one last time." And that has been a sticking point for me for 30 years. I was so hopefully Shatner would pop up in Trek 09 somewhere. Then when rumors of what became Star Trek Beyond were starting, around the brief time Roberto Orci had been announced as the director, I read they were reaching out to Nimoy and Shatner about both appearing. I know they went to Nimoy, and I wish I knew what the plans were, but he had to turn them down. He was too ill. Not long after I work to the news of Nimoy's passing. More painful was learning there had been an issue between Shatner and Nimoy left unresolved. I was devastated knowing not only would Kirk Prime and Spock Prime never meet, but that Shatner and Nimoy would never be together. This little film mean resolved so much for me after 30 years. I cant thank all the people involved in this enough. It means so much.

It was truly amazing and I'd love to see them do even more.

I'm pretty amazed how much they could fit in to such a short film with no dialogue. It gives a perfect send off to the original Kirk and Spock characters and gives us some tidbits that fit just so well into canon. I think it's a bit more meta than it seems, though because the name 'Unification' is obviously in reference to bringing best friends back together but maybe also because it covers OG Star Trek, Kelvin and Disco (parts of the fanbase that tend not to get on so well), it's almost like it's trying to unify all of Star Trek and the fanbase in celebration of Star Trek as a whole.

I showed this to Mom, who was a day one Trekker, and she cried hard for half an hour. "It really is hard to see Spock die..." The logic of Spock and control of his emotions helped Mom through undiagnosed PTSD that eventually she found a medication 30 years ago that helps.

This was such an emotional short film, after 30 years, I didn't even think it would happen. Got me teary and I wish we get this included in a future release. Because sometimes, some fans get it perfectly right.

Oh, I thought Kirk died and in the end he became death for Spock to carry on peacefully. Unification, the souls of Spock and Kirk are once again united and are at peace. I guessed wrong.

That's how I interpreted it. I think in this case, it's up to the viewer.

OK KIRK STILL EXOSTS IN THE NEXXUS ALONG WITH PICARD AND GUINAN. MORE LIKE TEMPORAL SHADOWS OF THEMSELVES

This entire piece was so incredibly beautiful. Real life doesn't give us comic book/fairytale endings, and I totally get that's maybe what they wanted to portray with Generations. I don't care. This is that fairytale ending for Kirk and Spock. Together again, at the end of Spock's life.

such a great work, i had tears in my eyes watching this short movie, i watched all-star trek movies from those periods with my dad (who i lost 4 years ago) so it also does something for me. however i loved the work they did from otoy and hope they will make more movies like these.

Think my childhood memories came flooding back. I know we gotta move forward with new trek and adventure. But wow seeing all that totally blew my mind as to what can be done. Given the amount of books including my favorites about kirks return and his adventures with the new generation. I hope with the way technology works can bring those to life. Amazing work and well done all.

Sometimes. No words needs to be said. I had goosebumps for a whole 10 minutes watching it. It was beautiful seeing Kirk again and even known it wasn't "him" that de-aging was amazing! Absolutely beautiful LLAP

Can someone please run the numbers and compare the time between Gary Lockwood's appearances as Mitchell with William Russell's return as Ian Chesterton in Power of the Doctor? That return gave William a world record for longest time between character appearances, which I think may have been broken now by Gary.
@johnpendergraph6952Ай бұрын
My thought exactly. Though I'm not sure I want that record broken.
@CountScarlioniАй бұрын
David Graham may also be in the running due to him returning to play the same Dalek in "The "Daleks in Colour" revamp after 60 years. But discounting that it's 58 Years for Mitchell, 57 for Chesterton so yes, Gary Lockwood probably now inherits the record - although perhaps with caveats regarding technical jiggery-pokery and the question of what does and does not count as a broadcast.
@djco5782Ай бұрын
The criteria are a bit nebulous, as William Russell had reprised the role in a direct-to-video short and on audio before Power; the record was specifically related to appearances in the same TV show, discounting suplimentary material. I'm not sure this would be comparable.

Generations was my first Trek film in theaters too. Yeah, it's got a few kinda big plot holes but I still think it's a great film, made even better retroactively by season 3 of Picard. Plus, being my first Trek film in theaters it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Great job with this breakdown of Otoy's masterpiece. What they're doing is nothing short of incredible. It's not just the meticulous 3D work, Otoy's cinematography, directing, and most importantly, storytelling, is exquisite. It's amazing they brought back so many of the original actors. After watching this breakdown I can't believe I missed so many connections. Time to rewatch the Otoy video.
