Exactly. Like we just saw her do the grief stricken rage thing in 6 hours of WandaVision. Now it's just a less creative version of that with her kids instead of her husband? (She was basically Jean grey in X-Men 3) And where was her husband? Why wasn't he looking for her? Why wasn't she looking for him in the multiverse? What happened to this great love they had? It feels like a cheat, if you're going to make this a WandaVision movie, to not acknowledge vision.

@annas42772 жыл бұрын
I think WandaVision's end credit scene was fine. At least I took it to mean that Wanda was learning about the Scarlet Witch and what she can do. She was trying to find herself as her own entity, as opposed to before when she defined herself by the people she was around: Vision, her brother, her kids etc. I thought it was foreshadowing her becoming more confident and in tune with her powers but not that she was becoming corrupted or evil. It was MoM that did a 180. She should have come out of isolation with a clear mind and refined powers. Plus, even if Scarlet Witch is a villain she should have more nuance to her than just being an obsessed psychopath.
@joshsilva40062 жыл бұрын
@@annas4277 absolutely, the movie would have been 100 times better if it was Strange and Wanda fighting a Wanda variant who didn’t go through the wandavision arc we saw, and it’s more about our Wanda confronting her past and teaching this variant that it isn’t the way. Feel like Wong could have been used better. He is the official Sorcerer Supreme. He commands the fortress, and then takes on Wanda by himself, while Strange is doing his thing. Both good. But he spent half the time of the final battle ... Falling and climbing up a mountain. Maybe have him slay some demons, maybe have him be holding Wanda with some magic spell that shows off the power of his specific kind of magic mastery. It'd show that Strange is quirky and uses unusual magic that Wong wouldn't (because it does have negative side effects), while also having Wong ... Not climb a damn mountain when he has warp rifts.

But then that would require even more exposition, and this movie was already drowning in that. Between this mountain and Eternity in Love & Thunder makes me wonder if any of this was ever communicated between film crews... FEIGE??? Any other mystery box realms you wanna pull out your Abrams-hole? In The Dark World, having Loki know the location of a secret rainbow bridge to help him escape Asgard made total sense because that fully lines up with Loki as a deceptive character. Wong knowing about the mountain doesn't really inform anything about his character, but instead about his Supreme position (oh, and thanks for blurting that tidbit out only after your whole cadre gets Wandized), and nothing ever informs of any character regarding Eternity, it's just... there. And now this movie has me defending Thor 2....

One thing I hate about the movie is how they hyped Strange to be the Greatest Threat to the Multiverse but ended up getting slapped by Wanda left and right
@itizwhatitiz95602 жыл бұрын
I didn't like the movie either. But not because of this Strange is the biggest threat in the universe because of the kinds of problems he can bring with him. Scarlett Witch for example, is almost infinitely strong. There's no limit to her power. And if Strange still manages to beat her, it means there's no lengths to what Strange can do, and that causes problems when Strange from other Universes collide
@kretgwiazdonos73972 жыл бұрын
tbf it makes perfect sense. illuminati did not know about the scarlet witch, which is told by captain marvel ('we can handle your little witch ' - so they don't know who she is or have misinterpreted her abilities badly) and the problem that they see in strange is also well portrayed in the final battle - danger from Wanda derives from her power, and the threat from Strange derives from his mind combined with his flaws. Wanda even buffed by the Darkhold was limited to some basic stuff, such as dreamwalking, where Stange in spite of being weaker than Scarlet Witch managed to win by using some shady tactics and unobvious combinations of spells.

I'm just struggling to see how the characters "change" in this movie, the end of the movie felt so rushed and like we didn't really achieve anything - like Dr Strange was searching for his happiness and in the end he is doing what we was at the beginning of the movie, right? Wanda already had her arc in Wandavision so this was a little repetitve in some ways. Love the artistic direction and there are some great moments, but the overall narrative and characters were very weak in my opinion. It was disappointing since Dr Strange is one of my favourite MCU characters. Also America is so poorly developed in this movie, she might as well have been an inanimate object instead of a person. Just needed another polishing before finalising the script in my opinion.

something I'm kind of scared about is if they start taking the WandaVision route--and by that I mean the route where Wanda is shown to do all these horrible things and it's blatantly obvious to the audience that she's turning to the dark side and then suddenly at the end, Marvel starts trying to "redeem" her by having characters say and/or act that she wasn't "that bad". Like the dumb scene where Monica says "they'll never know what you sacrificed for them", as if Marvel decided to back out with the idea of making Wanda a villain. I get Wanda's reasons for why she did the things she did, but they should never be used as excuses or to justify everything she did, and the latter seemed to be what Marvel was trying to do by the end of the WandaVision series. Sure, Strange didn't say or really do anything like Monica did by the end of the movie, but the ending was definitely way too happy-ish, like they didn't just lose a lot of fellow sorcerers and students who died a terrible death. I'm gonna be pissed if Marvel's gonna chicken out again for making Wanda a villain after everything she did, and while I'm not opposed to a redemption arc, hopefully they would take time to actually develop the arc and not speedrun it like hell.

@@bored_potato but in the end she did save a lot of universes by destroying the evil Book cuz she understood the Effect it could have on wielders of it. I mean sure she killed a lot of wizards and a lot of Heroes but whats that compared to the countless whole universes saved by the evil Book No longer existing. In a way its like how Tony Stark used to sell weapons without Care and how that Led to the weapons coming into the hands of terrorists and used to kill People with, and for stark to realise his wrongs and later down save the universe, or the whole bucky barns story. I agree that wandavision were far too easy on her, but in the movie she was atleast driven to the dark Side by the Book instead of just her own trauma and problems like in the show. She held a whole town in a hell like state just so she could live her Little fairy tail life and the whole narrative putting the blame on Agatha and the military bloke who yes deserved what they had coming for them but completely letting Wanda get away Scott free. Maybe in a way you could say that what happened in this movie and what she turned into was a sort of punishment for what she did in westview. Narratively the movie Kinda made Sense but the execution didnt really do it justice as it was too rushed. Apperently the movie had a raimi-cut which was like 30 mins longer but it had to be cut down to 2 hours. Im not sure if the 30 mins wouldve made the movie make more Sense but maybe they wouldve given Wanda a Little more retribution somehow.
@bored_potato2 жыл бұрын
@@sebastiandonosopinilla6568 nah I'm not accepting the theory of the Darkhold was the thing responsible for her descent into madness. Another terrible sin of this entire movie is that they broke one of the most core rules in storytelling which is "show, not tell". For the movie to justify her quick escalation to her "evilness" as the Darkhold controlling her or whatever, that'd only be a very convenient device that also conveniently happened off-screen. Though if that was really the writers' plan all along, then they did a terrible job of executing it. Also I disagree with the theory of Wanda saving "more lives" by destroying the Darkhold since that does not--and will never, make up for the other horrible things she's done. You can't massacre sorcerers and heroes or enslave innocent people's minds and then get redeemed for apparently "saving" other universes by destroying evil books. That's not how you "redeem" a character. And I doubt that would really matter in the grand scale of things considering there are far more evil artifacts out there in the multiverse apart from the Darkhold. All I want is for Marvel to actually figure out Wanda's story and which direction they really want to take. Again, I'm okay with a redemption arc, but they ought to properly do it and not go back-and-forth with her character (though with the way things are going in Marvel in phase four, I doubt she's really going to get a proper development). Other than Wanda, there are other characters in this movie who were also acting out of character but that's a topic for another day.

To solve the "viewers had to watch Wandavision" issue, it would have been relatively easy for Wanda to still be "good" (albeit corrupted by the Darkhold) when Strange first approaches her. And turn crazy at Karmataj after realizing Chavez could be key to getting Vision (and the kids) back. And just have the initial demon chasing Chavez and ponytail-Strange be just that a Demon.

We could've had a Wanda living a fake life in that new hex she made, but well, she still dreams with her kids, and when she gets to Kamar Thaj, while they talk about America we see the Darkhold glow, or she hears her kids asking for help again, or it whispers to her, and she tries to say the same thing "I kmow how it is to be chased, I could help her, I could control her power" instead of saying "I could help her control the power" and then after Strange get's a bit suspicious she snaps! She could even say the girl name, just like thst scene but instead, she got it from reading their minds or the Darkhold told her Would've give us a great moviez everything else could've been the same but would make the "corruption" so much more meaningful

That Illuminati is dead and should stay dead because they are pathetic. It is a waste to have them on screen like that because it destroys the whole point of the illuminati in the first place. The illuminati of the comics were the ones who had to respond not just to one incursion but a series of incursions that was destroying the entire multiverse and while they did not stop it they ultimately gained the power to recreate the whole multiverse. That means they were the best of the best and not dumb like this Illuminati. And this movie just shows that they don't take them seriously in the MCU. @katthunter65612 жыл бұрын
It needed a rewrite. Make Wanda's focus be finding a world with her brother in it, he is who we had the most screen time with and that we know upset her the most aside from Vision. Maybe have her want to go back to apologise that she wasn't there to save him- you can still have the 'sudden realisation of villainy' moment from the movie, but have it be Quicksilver asking 'what have you done... You're not my sister' or something. Hell even if you did want to have a world with her kids in it, establish something like the kids are in danger and she desperately wants to save them- perhaps there could be a reason for that, maybe Mephisto wants her powers and he's using the children as bait- if you put him in at the end credits as 'I will get her next time!' you can set up a Scarlet Witch film. There wasn't really enough Doctor Strange here, trying to force a 'you are dangerous and bad in every multiverse... Oh I guess not this one, okay' was dumb. I get that it was cool to have a Strange fight but we need a bit more than that. Really lean into Strange's cutting logic- the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few. They sort of did that with the whole 'no America I won't take your power' but they mashed it in way too much with his Christine arc. Pick one, maybe show him a world briefly where he and Christine are married to maybe make him question whether he is right all the time and whether that makes him happy. America Chavez was not well acted in my opinion, but more screen time may have remedies that. Have her arc be that she can't control her power through fear, so essentially she's always running away from her problems- perhaps she ran away from her family, rather than 'cause their deaths' but she can't find her own original universe, so she never sticks around long enough to trust anyone and she's just a ball of fear and distrust. That way we can see her come into her own- deciding to help Strange at the end, that facing her fear and determination, allows her control of her powers. I liked that the movie tried to do something different, the horror aspects were cool to see in an MCU film. But it's a packed script with not enough time on the right things- namely character motivations. I had no reason at all to care for America Chavez, and I'm confused as to how I am supposed to feel about Wanda- is she sympathetic? Even when murdering her way through multiverses? No idea.

I personally think the argument that Doctor Strange is a better supporting character comes from his scripts not giving him enough to work with. There’s not enough proper character exploration to make him captivating to general audiences because all he’s really asked to do outside his first movie is walk and talk like an authority figure, give quips, talk about some magic stuff, and then maaaaaybe in the newest movie have a few moments of self reflection. Unfortunately the self reflection moments don’t even hold up any weight because they don’t make sense in the context of the story. As an MCU Doctor Strange fan it’s incredibly frustrating that they didn’t do more for him in his second film because I think he has so much potential as a character.
@daviddalrymple22842 жыл бұрын
The idea that Dr. Strange works best as a supporting character has persisted through the comics as well. I think that stems from the fact that Dr. Strange (in his most well-known iterations) is typically presented as having surrendered any pretense of a personal life. To casual readers at least, he's a character who will always choose to sacrifice anything to protect the mortal realm from evil: he'll euthanize his allies, he'll give up his powers, and even his own life with almost no hesitation.

Plus White Vision is still around and he has all the memories of her Vision. I believe Raimi was brought in after they had already started shooting the film. I really appreciate this video, I've been waiting for it and it resonates with me. I have a few reasons for why I had a stronger negative reaction than you. 1. Unfortunately, I don't personally feel the actress was able to salvage Chavez's character. She was just more plot device than character, and I never really cared about her or her personal stakes, which meant resting the end on her shoulders rather than Strange's felt hollow to me. 2. I feel they absolutely butchered Wanda's character. The Wanda we see in WV is so complicated and nuanced, and here she felt pretty plainly malicious in a way that wasn't consistent with her previous characterization. Like literally we last saw her killing her children to free the town from her spell, aka personally sacrificing to do the right thing, and in this movie we see her doing the exact opposite, with nothing in between those two. Wanda being corrupted by the Darkhold makes sense on a logical level, but it felt jarring and like lazy writing to not show us that transition. You pretty much summed up all this in the video, but I don't know your personal feelings about Wanda and WV and I feel like it matters a lot more to people who really loved WV, which I did. 3. I legitimately felt the acting was cringey at points, from almost every character. And considering how capable actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen have proved to be in the past, I can only blame the direction. Maybe "corny" is just Raimi's style, and if so I'm just not a huge fan. And unfortunately, Zombie Strange's acting ruined the ending for me. 4. There's a lot of miss potential for a multiversal story here. Based on how many different Stranges they showed in the trailer, I really expected us to do more universe hopping.

Yeah I completely agree. I thought America Chavez's actress was alright, but her character was just so paper-thin that I was hoping there was gonna be a bit more to her than what we got. That "memory pad" thing in the Illimunati's universe felt so forced and contrived, too. Made me wish there was a more natural and compelling way to show her backstory/character. Poor Wanda. I dunno if I'd call it "character assassination," but it just felt so jarring going from WandaVision to Multiverse of Madness with her. She went from 0 to 100 real quick. And I get why with the Darkhold and all that, but like there was no gradual shift to her becoming a villain and it felt like all the nuance and development she went through in WandaVision was thrown out the window so fast. That being said, I was surprised and kinda delighted how she ACTUALLY ended up being the villain of the film instead of a puppet being controlled by some secret big bad. I was FULLY expecting Nightmare to show up with all the talk of "dreams" (someone idk who, probably Wanda, even says the word nightmare at some point) but I was probably grasping at straws. Knowing comics, I doubt she's really dead, though. After seeing this and the 3 Spider-Man movies when I was younger and literally nothing else from his filmography, I dunno if I'm necessarily a fan of Raimi's directing style. I agree the acting felt kinda...stilted? Goofy? Monologue-y? across the board. I don't think any of the jokes really landed. And I don't think that's the actors' faults. The gore and deaths and carnage though? Big fan. I'd still like to see more of his movies to see if there's something I'm missing; but, as of right now, I don't get the hype. Originally, I was gonna say that this movie was gonna be more of a stepping-stone so we can get more multiverse films in the future. But it's literally in the title and it was barely explored.

That's not true though. I watched the first trailer and avoided all potential spoiler talk. Yet was extremely disappointed with the film. 1) Wandas turn was too sudden. End of wandavision she realises her mistake and undoes everything. Now suddenly she's evil. 2) illuminati sequence was pretty pointless. 3) the entire film felt rushed. Rushing from plot point to plot point with not much characterisation or set up . 4) too many high concept ideas without the necessary backstory. The other book strange is after is just thrown in there with no history. Wandas temple comes out of no where 5) too many Deus ex machina moments. Oh no Wanda book is destroyed.. never mind there's a temple with it all engraved. Oh no Dr Strange is caught by the Illuminati. Oh wait he's free now 6)To many inconsistencies. America Chavez can only create portals when she's scared. Yet when she screams in fear as wanda chase them in the tunnel...no portal. When Wanda catches America it takes her far too long to take her power. Strange has enough time to find away out of the inbetween multiverse into the one that's crumbling. Has a philosophical debate with his evil self. Has a fight with his evil self. Dreamwalks into zombie self. Fights some demons. Then get his zombie self from New York to Wanda's temple. And America Chavez is still alive?! 7) too many quick resolutions. America Chavez controlling her powers as soon as strange tells her he believed eves in her. Wanda instantly changing her mind when she sees her children and other self The solutions: 1) not have evil Wanda yet. That should've been saved for this saga's 'civil war'. The 'its all lost' moment which should come at th end of act2 of the story not beginning of act 1. Have the conflict be about whether strange should be villified as Wanda was and strange having to prove his actions aren't about selfish gain or pride (touched on v briefly in the film. see below for more) 2) the Illuminati should've been a major part of act 2. Sure they capture strange but also take heed of his warnings and working with him but also keeping him cuffed whilst strange tries to convince them he's not a threat. Wouldv meant we actually get to know them (no..flashbacks and exposition don't count). They could then have been the ones fighting Wanda when she has Chavez explaining why wanda hadn't managed to take her powers until strange comes. Sure..let Wanda kill the Illuminati but by the final fight we would actually care. Wanda Vs Wanda fight scene with the realisation her children see her as a monster being less sudden. Maybe they use their powers to help their real mum fighting against our Wanda and in the heat of the fight she turns to them and is about to blast them then realises she was about to kill them.

But I do have the same feeling as others who critize the movie. This is my take on it In WandaVision, she learns that her grief isn't a valid reason to hurt other people to be with her family. At the end she wants to understand her chaos powers so she uses the Darkhold. She learns about the possiblity to get to her family. Due to the heavy corruption from the Darkhold and her grief she'll do whatever it takes to accomplish this. This sets her up as an exciting villain, but also gives a sad feeling that they're 'destroying' her character. The plot in WandaVision seems pointless (even though she's corrupted by the Darkhold) and it's obviously just sad to see her turn out like this after she's been in the MCU for this long I think Strange and Wong should've been made stronger, especially in the first fight against the octopus. My opinion on Multiverse of Madness: 1.) As a Multiverse movie, yeah its dissapointing 2.) As a Dr.Starange movie, not only its good, but its also a improvement compared to the first 3.) As a Sam Raimi movie, its still good 4.) As a Wanda movie however, this movie was fantastic (if you watch Wandavision at least)

At least I’m not the only who still notices Benedict bad accent. Whenever he plays Strange there’s always one to two words that just takes me out of it. Like the way he says ‘what’ lol it’s so… strange

I feel like at the very least they could have given defender strange an english accent because there has to be some variant that hails from the london sanctum

I thought it was good, had a blast. The multiverse part is lacking (No, I'm not talking of just the cameos) but the Raimi-ness makes it up for it.

Yeah, I felt that the madness of the multiverse part was just not that crazy. They barely went anywhere and met very few Stranges. I think a lot of that could have been amended if the story hadn't been framed around America, as that extra time could have been spent elsewhere.

@@tylerreed2409 honestly I feel like this was a preview of what’s to come us comic fans are used to this and even some mainline movie goers but to go full throttle now? It would have made general audiences confused tbh

@CYB3R2K30 THIS bro. What did they expect? Everything about it was insane.

@CYB3R2K30 To not spend most of the movie in a deeply boring universe where the power of those characters is immediately undermined. To see what a corrupt Strange does rather than be told. To not have a silly music fight

I think the major issue and the source of the "symptoms" you mentioned is that the real star of this movie is the Multiverse. A LOT of its runtime was spent on showing what sorts of whacky stuff is possible in the multiverse. THAT is the sole reason for these Illuminati we saw. Not because they were such an integral part to the plot. They weren't. Not because the characters were so brilliantly played or written. They weren't. But to see "We could have Inhumans, X-Men AND F4 in the MCU" "We could have a beloved character take a role as a Super Hero" "We could have a black Captain Marvel". That is why that part took run time above characterizing America or Wanda more. Me personally I loved the more wacky stuff because at this point of the MCU that is what a Dr. Strange movie needs to be. STRANGE. We had grounded approaches, we had High Tech approaches, we had different realms and aliens approaches, but the really gloriously weird inter-dimensional demon-zombie-who-knows-what-stuff is reserved for the Master of the Mystical Arts. I wholly agree that Marvel is ready to move from the standard. They have done so a bit in the past but it is time to do so more. Like they did in the shows in all sorts of directions. Whacky sitcom/therapy, hard hitting politics/conspiracy drama, light hearted christmas fun featuring way-too-motivated and old-and-grumpy, what all can the multiverse offer, actually mentally unwell + some mythology, Keepers of the UNIverse vs god of mischief... it got weird :D

6:08 So basically a theory for this is that she wanted to have a universe without Vision because he was her voice if reason and if he was in that universe, he would have told her to stop and fought against her like in Wandavision. She already had accepted his death too so I think she wouldn't have minded if he wasn't jnt he same universe as her

Good thing fan theory are there to excuse the plot holes the writers left. There can be no flaws with the MCU so long as there’s a crackling theory with no evidence!

She didn't choose that universe, she just followed strange and chavez

she accepted his death but she couldn't accept the fact that her kids weren't real?
