captainmidnight I think the need to focus on stand alone movies at least until they’ve undone the damage. If the next 3 movies are a big success then sure that planning a JL movie but I wouldn’t even think about until all 3 have been out and if all 3 are big hits. Also I would follow from the last movie so don’t do injustice league or whatever. Do something different like an elseworld JL story. Steven Santos Yeah, they should let the character rest for a little while and just like maybe have him in some TV shows or animated movies or making cameos in other characters's movies. He could go without a new solo film for a decade at this point without anybody being all that sad about it. The Nolan trilogy is still fresh enough after all and he can just show up in other media for those who really would miss him. They should take this chance to let other DC characters have their chance to shine, the ones who haven't had a decent movie yet.

For me, where they've really gone wrong is their over-reliance on Batman to draw a crowd. I don't mean to knock Batman or his fans, but I feel that WB and DC has really exaggerated his importance to the comic-book world, and it's thrown off DC's equilibrium. I mean, why does every available protagonist need to be a tortured, cynical soul? What's wrong with thinking outside the box for a change? Again, I don't mean to knock Batman or his fanbase, but he's not as positive a role model as WB seems to think he is. The platitudes he brings up about doing what's necessary to defeat evil and being unable to move on from his childhood just aren't all that interesting. It doesn't help that the current live-action Batman is so flawed in terms of his likability. He doesn't have the depth to work as a main character, and he just gets in the way whenever he becomes the main focus. Once Affleck's performance wears off, there's not much there. I think there's definitely a place for batman in DC Comics, but I don't think he needs to be the main focus THIS often.

Batman is dark. Most of the other DC heroes aren't. The problem Warner had (besides rushing everything to get that Avengers money) was following Zach Snyder's fever dream lead and making everything "darker" than the MCU. Many of DC's heroes are lighter than their Marvel counterparts. Warner needs to get someone who understands the characters and can oversee bringing them to the silver screen (not just their dark, twisted vision.)
@薇vern5 жыл бұрын
I agree. It’s total fine to go darker, though. As long as it’s handled well and it still feels real, because that’s kind of what people like about Marvel. What they should actually do is putting some of the people that are in charge of the animated movies, in charge of some real action movies. It's hard to believe how good are the animated movies and how BAD are the real action dc movies. They need to take their directors and writers. Maybe the main problem is how faithful to the comics are one and the others. While the animated movies are quite faithful to the original movies, the real action movies hardly have something related to them. Those directors and writers really need to CARE about the original material, and treat their characters with RESPECT. It's terrible what they did in suicide squad. They transformed the villains in generic heroes. That's the worst you can do. Well. Apart from the huge amoung of mistakes and stupid writing...

I literally say this all the time. Such a massive L on Snyder's part. But I think the intent was to show how Batman could rational becoming a killer. Because in the comics, we all know the Wayne's are innocent victims. And because they were struck down without reason, Bruce swears to never take a life. Because all murder is without reason in his mind. Which in extension is why he doesn't even use guns. Because to use a gun is to have lethal intent. BUT to be truly innocent, Thomas Wayne can't be a fucking dumb ass who incites the fight that gets him and his wife killed. And because this is the final image Bruce sees of his father... Batfleck feels he has to be the one to strike first or die. "Kill a killer. And the number of murderers in Gotham stays the same."-Batman

Nolan didn't want the job Misi Ot. he is the one who called Snyder in the first place. WB begged Nolan to reboot Superman in the tone of his Dark Knight movies, he worked on the general story for Man of Steel. he didn't want anything to do with shared universe or superpowers. Nolan is not a fan guys, he just used Batman's popularity. his brother is a fan, but not him. no way Nolan was directing a Superman movie or a shared universe. he made WB cast another actor as Batman when they were going ahead with George MIller's justice League Mortal in 2007. the fact is, there is one studio where the suits actually care about comic books and doing justice as best they can to the characters and source material, and their hot streak is no accident. the best regarded comic book movies from WB, Fox and Sony as of late (Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man Homecoming) were 2 flukes that WB and Fox gave a fraction of the usual blockbuster superhero movie budget and marketing because they had no faith in, and Marvel Studios rebooted Spider-Man for Sony. all roads lead to common sense here, these people behind the scenes do not care beyond what they assume will earn the most money on brand value alone. as for WB's interference, they bungled it, but they started caring too late. end of the day, Snyder was not and is not a good fit to this particular material. the man doesn't like Superman, doesn't like mainstream comics (loves Watchmen pretty much) and has said it enough times already. he only took this up because Batman and Superman "transcend comic book heroes" in other words because they are popular and more symbols than characters. and this is right up Snyder's alley as he is quite bad when directing actors to portray actual humanity or depth, but can make a shot look good (basically he should just be a DP and not director) but the audience needs relatability. this whole thing was doomed from the start. Man of Steel was reactionary violence fest with weak Jesus parallels (most overused hero trope in hollywood) because Superman Returns had no baddies to fight and was boring. it had it's dour tone because The Dark Knight was a hit. they didn't start out right and it's not gonna end up right. everything in between is just going through the motions. I do agree they should have just stuck with Snyder's "vision" after they failed to correct the mistake of hiring him post Man of Steel, but the movies wouldn't be any better or better received, JL might have tanked even harder if people had to sit through another depressing, overlong, mean, dour slog of a comic book movie taking itself way too seriously for all it's goofy flaws and outlandish logic. in the end the studio firing Snyder and hacking up his movie was the best case scenario for Zack and everyone who wants to hold out hope that his movie would have been great and turned everyone to see his genius if the people who hired and financed him just let him do his thing. because positive hope is better than negative confirmation.
@pureblackfire5116 жыл бұрын
Juha-Matti Tenhunen the very notion of BvS was flawed. Snyder wanted to make Man of Steel 2, which should have been the case. BvS was like the entirety of Marvel's phase 1 mashed into one film, it was a horrifying concept. Superman sequel + Batman origin + Wonder Woman cameo + JL teaser trailer+ one insanely, redundant, convoluted villain plot + a tacked on third act baddie to punch + Dark Knight Returns (even though we just met him!) + the death of Superman (before anybody actually got invested in him to give his death some weight) = hot mess. I agree with you, though not a fan of Snyder's vision, he would have been better suited to a trilogy not part of a shared universe. but, Snyder doesn't own these characters, he truly doesn't even like or understand them, and WB/DC wanted a shared universe to compete with the MCU. this is why I said they made the first mistake working with Zack in the first place, the arrangement was bad for everyone. then they double down on him, only to stab him in the back later. this is the studio that was taking shots at the competition and claiming to be "director driven".

@@cammywhite8374 They should definitely nerf a bit some character, to have a bit more stakes, but not entirely. So I think they should definitely lower his power level to ve slightly higher that Wonder Woman's. Like, if they were to fight (which they shouldn't, since they're good friends and wouldmake sense) Supes would win on a one to one, but should have a harder time fighting both Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and should 100% lose if another superstrength hero joined in, he'll maybe even Wonder Woman should be able to put up a fight on her own. Taka Baruna DC copied their comics with animation as did Marvel with live action. Both companies built shared multiverses in the comics decades ago and even managed to cross with one another. DC is copying Marvel's live action transition though, instead of an organic imitation of the comics, for the sake of time. And that's why they're having trouble. They're following instructions, rushing through them, and proceeding with the expectation of uniqueness...these three cannot coexist.
@Gemnist986 жыл бұрын
The idea of a shared universe in film and TV dates back to early Hollywood with the Universal Monsters shared universe (no, not the Tom Cruise Mummy thingy). That said, while DC technically got the jumpstart, Kevin Feige conceived the MCU through sheer love of the comics.
@EJM12246 жыл бұрын
Gemnist The Universal monsters were more of a crossover. Their individual stories conflict with the shared stories and vice versa whereas, in a cinematic universe, those stories connect and contribute to a greater story. So, yes, while the concept has been around, it isn't nearly the same. Neither DC nor Marvel got the jumpstart. Both companies developed shared universes decades before even Universal's crossover, just in their own medium of comic books. Both are adapting that concept, just as they adapt their characters, to a movie format. Marvel adapted it to live action first, and to much success. DC tried to emulate that success rather than focus on the adaptation of character and format itself, which may have prevented a more organic means of achieving a similar cinematic universe.
@kevrokka.d.97496 жыл бұрын
Marvel characters were built from the ground up using a shared universe, so it should be no surprise that they're so great at it. Hell, they've practically even made New York a character as a result. DC characters were bought from different places and didn't interact at first. DC eventually cobbled together a 'cohesive' universe. Even then they were playing catch-up with Marvel as Marvel's characters reflected the real world at the time like no other. DC usually trails Marvel because while DC may have got the ball rolling first, it was Marvel who took the ball and has not relinquished it yet.

The one thing that DC has over Marvel is better, fleshed out female leads. They should continue that with Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, etc. Other than that, DCEU is still playing catch up with the MCU and they're way off.

I think they are holding Black Widow info until they make a BW movie. And the is a super spy so her character needs to be shroud in mystery. I don't care that much about Scarlet Witch either. But the new girl Shuri is looking like she might end up being a fan favorite. They also have Captain Marvel coming so WW2 need to come out fast or DCEU might loose that last good thing about it as well.

If that's all true, that just goes to show how dedicated the guy is, and that Marvel Studios are actually willing to listen to fans. WB has to learn that.

I can see it going the exact route as the "Amazing Spider-man" movies did, where they're desperately trying to make so many changes, try a bunch of "new ideas" just to either try to appease to fans, or at least make enough to rival other companies that eventually it would get so tiresome and tedious that they'll eventually drop it and someone with some actually passion can get their hands on the DC characters and lore.

One of my favorite Justice League movies is the animated "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis" Each character had a moment in the spotlight, even though the story was focused on Arthur becoming Aquaman. The only real issue I have with it us that the pacing of the romance subplot of Arthur and Mira was a bit too fast. But take that story, extend it to about 2 hours (adding ~45 minutes) and use that extra time to slow down the plot when it's going too fast, add some more personality to the characters, and boom; perfect Justice League movie. The only hindrance is that an ordinary moviegoer won't be as familiar with the characters, but when I first saw "Justice League: War" I had no idea who Shazam was, but by the end of the movie, I had a pretty good idea of who he was.
@ddbannister21346 жыл бұрын
To be honest I have lost any hope to any DC movie. Marvel actually understands how to make movies. Marvel has three more movies planned this year. I'll be honest, I am more of a Marvel fan. And I believe a Lot of people agree that DC isn't really competing much with Marvel movies. Justice league made 239M while Marvel's most recent stand alone movie Black Panther made over 1B dollars. And with Infinity War around the corner that potentially can be more popular. With DC's current profit and popularity Marvel is in the lead. If Warner Bros can't create good movies than why would I waste money and time to watch them. At that point I might as well wait for them to come on NETFLIX. Or do what I did with Justice League and not even bother to watch them. And just a reminder that this is coming from a person who prefers Marvel way more than DC. In most standards.

DC doesn't need their live action movie to be interconnected in order to draw more crowds, they're crushing Marvel in animated films, animated tv series, games, comic books, novels, and is slowly losing to Marvel in live action tv series. DC should get their priorities straight and with WB possibly being sold in the near future, DC shouldn't try any new multi million dollar investments (by trying something like a reboot) while their future is so fragile at the moment.

In the videogame department is debatable since it has been only with the recent generation of consoles that DC had a prominent rol but marvel had the videogame department since snes to ps2/xbox. Zack Snyder killed DCEU single handedly. But still fanboys behave like he is some reincarnation of Kubrick. I have seen them demanding "Snyder Cut" of JL from WB on various social media. The kind of mess that JL was, I really don't think any kind of " cut" can save it. But still, at least it was better than Suicide Squad. I really think they should have released the solo films and build the characters up a little bit before the team-up films.
@rmsgrey6 жыл бұрын
It's not just Snyder - it's also whoever was on the committee at the studio making decisions like "Don't make MoS 2; make BvS instead. And put a trailer for JL in there too - but put it in the middle of the movie so people see it."
@johnstovall75036 жыл бұрын
rmsgrey. It all on the studio if you ask me. Their ignorant paranoid interference is the problem. same as with the Hobbit. Listening to Peter jackson talk about them makes me really impressed how good they managed to make them. Two hour of less mandated run-time for Justice league? Tens of millions of Dollars in reshoots. Deleting most of the fun scenes and God knows what else from the film. Horror story. Keven Feige is most of why MCU is so great and the fact he doesn't have to deal with this shit is a lot of it.
@rmsgrey6 жыл бұрын
The studio doesn't help, but at least some of the blame has to rest on Zack Snyder's inability to tell a story - he throws some absolutely fantastic shots and scenes up on the screen, but leaves it up to the viewer to make it all fit together and make sense. Throwing a bunch of shots up and hoping it all makes sense somehow is not great film-making...

B Philp - DC have a poor track record in live action, but that’s WB’s fault. The only franchises they’ve had in the 21st century that people have largely enjoyed are the Dark Knight trilogy and Wonder Woman. They can fix this easily by letting real fans who care about the DC Universe do the scripting or directing. Like the MCU whose Movie writers and creators are real fans of The Marvel Universe and it really does show through out the Films records, it's the REAL reason why they are more successful. The DCEU only exists because it worked for Marvel. What they should do is forget about the universe part, except for justice league 2. And possibly for Flashpoint.
@benwillis27996 жыл бұрын
Great video. I think you hit the nail on the head: the problem has been WB trying to put out all these crossovers and team-ups without waiting to see if there was any actual demand first. A major reason the MCU worked is because Iron Man was such a smash hit that audiences wanted to see more of this character and eventually this universe, so when Captain America and Thor were also successful, people were pumped to see The Avengers. The DCEU went about this in the exact opposite way. They began with an extremely divisive film, followed it up with an even more negatively received sequel, and then were like "How would you like to see these people team up with Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg?" By that point, audiences had been burned so badly that Wonder Woman was pretty much the only selling point to get people interested in the Justice League, and unfortunately, despite how big a hit her movie was, that clearly wasn't enough. Going forward, just try to make good movies. One at a time. If people like those and respond well? MAYBE consider doing another Justice League movie. But not before. Stop counting your chickens before they hatch.

Considering all the critics bashing on it it's a surprise it made so much. It's definitely not great but it's far from being a bad film, same for JL. Let you remind you once again of the movies that are announced: 1. Aquaman 2. Shazam 3. WW2 4. SS2 5. Deathstroke 6. Nightwing 7. Batman 8. Flashpoint 9. Cyborg 10. GL Corps 11. Gotham City Sirens 12. Joker 13. oh I almost forgot about Booster Gold It's ok to "fail" once in a while (in MCU standards, which is not saying much), what's not ok is wanting someone to fail.
