The biggest mistake DC is making is trying to compete or be Marvel and the MCU right now. They have great characters that people love that have great stories waiting to be told. At every decision crossroads they failed. 1. Leaving wiggle room at the end of Chris Nolan's Batman (Leave Bruce Wayne alive in the conscious of Gothem with a reduced fortune living out of country) Failed. 2. Giving Batman a very close personal loss reason that could be directly attributed to collateral damage from Superman's fight. That would make his decision ti plunge into the darkness to kill him more understandable-Fail. 3. Giving Wonder Woman a role in interrupting the fight to remind Batman of his values -Fail 4. Writing a level headed thoughtful hard to expose Lex Luther -Fail (make him responsible for the impeding conflict with but so clever the team can't get hard evidence to get him locked up in his first movie appearance).

Batman is probably my all-time fave superhero , Superman and Green Lanterns stories were some of my faves as a kid, and I still love the DCAU. The New Mutants, X-Men, X-Force, etc. were the comics i collected as a kid. I really did not care about Iron Man, Capt. America. then, nor even when the MCU films were announced. So, if anything, my bias was more pro-DCEU and meh-MCU. However, watching both company's films had two very different results on me. The MCU film drew me into the characters I originally did not care about while the DCEU films started pushing me away from the characters I grew up loving. The stories and characterizations were just so much better with the MCU for me and it sucks. Because we should have both universes to love equally.

I finally found the review that voices my thoughts. Not to mention the tone felt inconsistent to me. There was a scene that threw me off - when WW smiles and says "I'm working with children" after the JL defeat the villain. Nowhere else in the movie we see JL acting like children except for the Flash..kinda, so that line felt unnecessary. Also it kind of sucked to see Batman used as a gag. Yeah, he doesn't have powers but that's what makes him so amazing. He still can kick ass. Don't get me wrong; the joke can be funny; but in the movie, it felt like it had no punchline.

@jonathanstarsmoure57916 жыл бұрын
Elton - Marvel tells a simple story period. TheSpaceJockey - Marvel has no respect for their comics characters. Thor is weak, and not norselike, Iron Man isn't conflicted much. Hawkeye(one of the longest members) is just a prop. Marvel tells simple generic stories that is entertaining. That's why it's a success. Nothing more. They're more focused ego wise on their characters since we are more focused "egowise" on ourselves, a very effective way of telling a story. But it doesn't mean it's the only way of telling a story. Ironically speaking in the Comics DC is more MCU like and that's why the MCU is copying their style. While in Marvel Comics they're more focused on ideologies/themes like racism(then x-men) now(SJW), to a splice of life(Spiderman). They were more grounded. DC was always the mythical stories. And look how the tables are turned. We now have conflicted Superman and naive Captain America, complete 180 of themselves.

This movie pretty much highlighted my issue with how they portrayed Superman. A lot of DCEU fans say how Superman needed to be developed and go through struggles to become the hopeful hero we know and love. That sort of aggravates me because he shouldn't need to BECOME Superman because he IS Superman. What really makes his lighter persona jarring is that when we last saw him, he's this dour and depressing person, showing almost none of the traits, if at all, we see in JL. I'm not saying that he couldn't go through struggles and times of self doubt, but those should have been used to REINFORCE his hopeful and kind persona, not bring them light. If anything, Wonder Woman was the Superman movie we should have gotten. She's hopeful, even to a naive degree, and is met with challenges that pretty much make her doubt everything she stands for yet in the end she reaffirms her beliefs and triumphs in the end. THAT is what we should have gotten with Superman in MoS and BvS. Developing him over multiple films wasn't even a bad idea either. Hell I even loved having the earth doubt him and having him earn their trust over time. Too bad they just killed him off and suddenly he's a savior that's loved by everyone, pretty much going for a cop out to the issue and forcing in some more already unsubtle Jesus imagery, on top of wasting a perfectly good storyline which could have been better utilized later on. The way they talked about him in JL (especially in that opening scene with Superman) makes it seem as if Superman was always this bright character, which just makes it all the more jarring how he went from BvS to JL. The DCEU so far has just been a bunch of great ideas soured by horrible execution. I keep hearing people go on and on about the subtext and "depth" but subtext doesn't do jack shit if the delivery of said subtext is awful. We don't praise the Happening for having a message about us having to be better custodians of the Earth because everything surrounding that message is garbage.

@jonathanstarsmoure57916 жыл бұрын
Mr Grape Soda We gotta be realistic here. Diana grew up guarded(shielded) from the worlds "horrors" therefore she should be naive and rightly so. That's true and true wonder woman. In JL she also stuck true to who she was the way she left it in her solo film, she had doubts, she took time off, she had a big burden in her heart but also stuck true to being a warrior amazon. Superman grew up in a farm. "where did you learn to fight? In a farm?". Let's put it simply, how can farmers support, understand a genius child, a prodigy of some sorts. So it makes sense that his formative years are built on doubt and fear of other people, because they misunderstand him. Notice how they keep on clashing? kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6DHh4RrhqaWbpo The greatest flaw I see in BvS and in MoS, atleast what I see for people who sees it as flaws is that they never focused on Superman or clark. They put him on a background treating him as a plot device for his own movie in which I personally think is brilliant movie making, but that's not how films are supposed to be huh? Nobody comes to watch a superman movie and not get shown Superman most of the time. Fact is they made Lois as the bridge to the plot, the plot is told through her and not through superman. Just like BvS where the plot basically leaked when she started investigating Lex. But what do I know?

I understand if you say you enjoyed this movie but that doesn’t make it a “good” movie. Enjoying a movie doesn’t excuse the lazy writing and poor effort put into the cinematography and CGI. It’s awful that Zack Snyder experienced such a horrible tragedy whilst shooting the movie, but unfortunately it doesn’t change the fact he’s not a good writer. He clearly struggles to develop characters properly and is unable to “show not tell”. He throws in a load of dialogue expecting us to care but we don’t. The only characters I slightly cared for was Wonder Woman and the other amazonians, and that was only because of the Wonder Woman movie. I felt no emotion when watching the movie and didn’t particularly care for any of the characters. Before this movie I never agreed with people saying DC are trying to be like Marvel. But this movie is a mess, the tone of the movie is all over the place, and the humour is so forced in. So many moments felt very unnatural. I don’t know if it’s because they had to change directors part way or because they’re attempting to be more light hearted like Marcel movies, but either way it didn’t work. I never had an issue with DC trying to be more dark/realistic but now it’s clear even they’re not sure if they want to be dark or light hearted. My biggest issue by far though is how underdeveloped the characters are and the lack of emotion behind everything. You can’t just have a character say they feel one way and expect us to empathise. You need to show it and make us somehow relate to them and actually care. Otherwise it’s just lazy writing.
@LorisRumbo7 жыл бұрын
If you need 3 hours to build some basic depth to your characters then it shows your writing isn't very effective. The majority of mainstream movies rarely ever exceed 1 and a half hours nowadays. I'm not saying mainstream Hollywood movies are usually masterpieces or anything, but I can't remember when was the last time I cared so little for the characters in a movie. I'm not here to hate on Synder, his movies are generally visually great(bar JL, but I honestly think that's probably more due to Whedon's reshoots and perhaps WB's interference) and he's clearly very capable of creating intense shots and imagery. I thought JL just wasn't a very aesthetically pleasing movie, but I wouldn't blame him for any poor cinematography in this movie as I genuinely think he's a great visual artist and I doubt the ugly scenes were his fault. However, he's really not a great storyteller, his movies are too much style over substance and the end product of his movies usually just looks like a collection of scenes rather than one cohesive story

Lobo Lobo Snyder isn't even great. It's clear that he doesn't really know shit about superman and batman. Literally all he read before making BvS was The Dark knight returns. It's a good comic don't get me wrong but it's not good when your starting off a cinematic universe and trying to build a character. The batman in that story is not the same batman that evetyone knows and loves. Batman doesn't kill wrecklessly. He values human life because of what happened to his parents. He wants tobprotect. This version of batman really doesn't give a shit about other people or at least it's never shown that he cares. Snyder tried turning batman and superman into somerhing they are not and as a result, the general audience thinks these characters are boring and weak. Snyder had full control over MoS, but that movie wasn't even that great. There were problems with superman's character. He isn't really anything like he is in the comics and animated shows. He just solidified people's opinion of superman being "boring"

In order for Justice League 2 to work, they need to reassess what they want their characters to represent as well as what their personalities will be like. Henry Cavill has three distinct personalities in three different films. It took until the final 10 minutes of Justice League for us to see how good he can be. Batman has become the Drax of the DCEU. He's gone from brooding, angry and brutal to comic relief. The transition is just jarring. He needs to go back to being a badass and leave the jokes to Aquaman and the flash. Speaking of those two, we need a bit more character from Aquaman. He needs to show us depth so that we can somehow relate to a man who speaks to fish. Hopefully we will see that in his standalone film. With The Flash, they need to tone down his awkward humour. He's trying too hard and it comes across as forced. When it lands he's actually goofy in an endearing way so play to that strength. Also Ezra Miller is a fantastic actor with layers, we need to see him be vulnerable, especially the relationship with his father. Now we come to the most difficult character. Cyborg should not under any circumstances have his own film (as much as I would like an African American lead in the DCEU). But he is dull and not very compelling, also he doesn't have any charisma nor is he badass enough to carry a film. He should just feature as a supporting character in some of the other films. With the crux of his story arc relating to his inability to understand his condition. As well as trying to maintain what little humanity he has left. Perhaps either Batman, Flash or even Superman can help him with that in a standalone film. As for Wonder Woman, well she's the only one that's consistent and she doesn't need changing. Although I do want Gal Gadot to challenged on the acting front. Give her emotional hurdles to overcome. The DCEU isn't dead and under the right hands can still find a way to succeed. But rather than trying to compete with Marvel, maybe they should try and get their house in order first. Let's face it, Marvel will rule the cinematic landscape until we as cinemagoers decide we're done with superhero movies. There is absolutely no chance of any studio competing with Marvel/Disney. So rather than try, DC should just work at their own pace and tell the stories we want to see, the way we want to see it. I don't mind waiting 3 or 4 years for the next Justice League movie. If it means we get the perfect version of Darkseid and the film's leading up to it build slowly to that crescendo. One way to better Marvel in that regard is to show Darkseid and his capabilities before he shows up in Justice League 2. We had to wait until Infinity War to actually see what Thanos could do. So none of us felt the threat of this character until the movie started. But DC can show Darkseid fucking shit up in different scenes peppered thought the individual movies. So that we as an audience can feel the dread and tension leading to his arrival. I hope DC fixes up asap cos it's saddening to see a once mighty behemoth be humbled and turned into a joke. I want these great heroes to rise once again and be counted. I know we all do.
@MegaSpideyman6 жыл бұрын
I think Batman's fine enough in Suicide Squad, FANTASTIC in BVS and could be better in JL, bit less comedy. Already enough for Batman to do in it without needing him to joke, which doesn't really fit his character as established by BVS. I hope Matt Reeves' The Batman does better by him. I was happier with Cyborg than I expected, not as happy with Aquaman as I expected, hope I prefer him in his own film. Not sure how Flash'll be and what the film'll end up being. I'm not super happy with him so far, he could and should be better. WW is perfect, hope Superman stays consistent in any future film.

I have to disagree. The casting was horrible in these movies. It was like trying to watch Chucky from Good Will Hunting, Khal Drogo, Don Lemon, the annoying kid from school, and Gisele from Fast and Furious fight the guy who made Born to be Wild. Take that vs. Guardians of the Galaxy, who exchanged meaningful and funny banter and gave the movie substance as actual characters. Theres drama, but it doesn't weigh the movie down like crazy. DC made their characters way too dark but couldn't sell it since we don't know them. And I think its so funny to say this, but at this time, the Guardians of the Galaxy, a ragtag group from the bargain basement of Marvel's character roster, are more bankable and well loved stars than DC's front running roster. I love that this movie lost money. The only way to get a studio to make meaningful changes is to hit them in their wallet. This failed for every reason marvel succeeded. If DC wanted to fix their universe, they'd delve deeper into their more unknown rosters, and focus on heroes that have a more human side. Right now, its all spectacle, no story, and they think they cast well. Great castings still feel fresh 10 years later, which is exactly how the MCU feels. We love seeing all the OGs because they're all just so fun to watch on screen. Before the MCU, no superhero fans besides those hardcore people really gave a shit about Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, and some people cared about Captain America and lots of people liked the Hulk. But good movies combined with excellent casting and stories that took these characters in well-written directions created franchises out of them that we love just as much as the batmans and supermans of this world.
@Junebug896 жыл бұрын
As someone who liked the casting I have to say you make some great points. No one in this film is RDJs Iron Man or Chris Evans Cap. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is probably the closest but she earned that in her own film, not this one. To me though that still comes down to the writing, these actors are just being given trash to work with. And to be fair I can see why people would say the Aquaman casting is off because this version of Aquaman is so different to basically any version prior. I'll admit to just being a fan of Jason Momoa lol - not that I thought he was done well in this movie at all but I still *want* to see this Aquaman done right.
@ccricers6 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything except Hawkeye, he's still among the least favorite lol. However you're right in that the casting did a lot to hurt this movie. Ben Affleck's acting was wooden, just because you are acting out a serious hero doesn't mean you have to be wooden and restrained in the acting. Flash and Wonder Woman were the best out of the group IMO, with what the actors had to work with. Also the time spent in the previous movies leading up to JL was shorter, and they ended up phoning it in with the superhero team-up and looks half-baked. So instead of treating it like a race against Marvel, the producers should have paced their movie franchise better.

I agree with most of the points in this video. I may be a bit of a Marvel fanboy, so a lot of you will likely dismiss me, but I do adore Batman, and like Superman depending on how he's dealt with. My main issue is the entire arc of Superman, especially after he died. He was a problem for like 2 minutes. And after that, I knew we wouldn't have a problem, cuz he would rush in and save the day. He was faster than the Flash, beat up every character, and is smart too. Batman was the best character in the film but he was completely useless most of the time. His only bright idea was to resurrect Superman and bring Lois. Aside from that he couldn't hold a handle, and Cyborg used his tech in quite a few scenes. Speaking of which, Cyborg is boring, and, again, all the characters other than Supes are useless. Plus Steppenwolf is so stereotypically bad he makes every single Marvel villain look heavenly (and quite a few Marvel villains were shitty). He has no motivation except to rule everything for whatever reason, and no backstory behind his first defeat. DC has such amazing villains. Better than Marvel in most cases. I just wish they stopped going for spectacle constantly and focused on character development.

One of the biggest issues with the DCEU movies is that they are rushing to try and get to JL, their attempt at recreating the success of Avengers, too fast. Marvel took the time to set things up with solo movies first, giving us a slow drip of world building over five movies, DC didn't and tried to cram too much into the few movies it did before this, two of which were ensemble films, one of which only had a cursory relation to the JL build up. Put simply, Marvel earned the audience before Avengers was released, DC did not take the time to earn the investment of the audience before Justice League. They wanted Avengers box office, but didn't build up to it and failed as a result. One of the big reasons JL is so clunky is because it has to rush the origins of several major characters and cram them into this movie, when a solo movie for each of those three would have done the job much better, and we could have gone into this hitting the ground running. That would have made for a much better movie. A lot of the problems were inherited from BvS, which drew far too heavily on sources that were far too late in these characters' histories. The Death of Superman should have been a Phase 3 moment at the earliest. We didn't have time to care about him prior to that, he hadn't earned the status he needed within the world for it to work. The same goes for the Dark Knight Returns stuff, he and Batman didn't have the dynamic for that to play out properly. They had no history, and that's why that story works in the comic and not in the BvS movie. Most of the problems with the DCEU come from the fact that they wanted to get to their Avengers level crossover immediately. They didn't take the time to establish the world first and didn't earn it, and the mess we got is the result.

@albertoguerrero36597 жыл бұрын
I think special effects are easier to make or less expensive if they’re done at night. This is something I heard from a producer of the Flash tv series.
@nosrepsuomynona71927 жыл бұрын
Dishant Chokhandre I can think of 2 probable reasons why DC likes their major fight scenes at night: 1. Batman only fights at night 2. Its cheaper and faster to render CGI at night and they can get those cool light effects in if the background is dark.

I realize Zack is PURPOSEFULLY trying to make justice league more comedic/ cheerful like MARVEL but he doesn’t realize that works great for MARVEL HEROES , that suits their personality e.g., it’s perfect for guardians of galaxy , avengers fun vibe etc , THAT DOESN’T MEAN WE WANT THAT SAME VIBE IN JUSTICE LEAGUE ESP BATMAN , that’s doesn’t suit them at all , their vibe is badass darker humor , that is what we need form justice league , Don’t try to copy marvel vibe and ruin justice league , keep it real and justice league esp Batfleck can become the BEST THING coz their dark storylines vibe have so much more potential and personality than any other superhero movies/ franchises

BaconKiller360 thats bcuz DC wants fast money now while ppl r crazy about superheroes. They dnt want to start from scratch. Although, theyre now forced too cuz Marvel has pretty much reached its peak and is slowly coming down. All they have is XMen to make bank off. DC has many characters they can put out. Rebooting Superman should be a must for them. Snyder is terrible

I get the feeling that DC is in too much of a rush to catch up with Marvel in the cinematic universe. Marvel really took it's time to develop many of their characters before going all in with an Avengers Movie. DC needs to take a step back, all of their movies seem to have these slightly clunky oversized ensemble casts. Too many storylines, character developments and back stories make for a jumbled mess. Slow it down DC. What's the rush?

Iron Man 1 (origin movie) Hulk (origin movie) Captain America (origin movie) Iron Man 2 Thor (origin movie) All of these were released before the Avengers in 2012 so that by the time we reached the "main event", we had a thorough grounding of what these characters were like and what their motivations were. DC on the other hand expected the fans to already be familiar with their main characters which was a huge mistake. Never assume your audience will understand how your interpretation of a character works within a shared universe setting. The lesson? Patience is key to success.

9:08 Justice League 2001 cartoon series - opens with Superman throwing a team together to defeat a MASSIVE alien invasion. Wonder Woman doesn't think it will last - but is an honorable warrior in it for the challenge. Flash and Green Lantern end up caught in the mess despite one being a 'rooky' and the other a war vet who sees himself primarily as a beat cop. Finally, we're introduced to Martian Manhunter, who's been trying to contain the invaders for almost five hundred years and has forgotten how to be a person. All of this is laid at Batman's feet by Superman who unites the team - but has no funding or support. Requiring effort on Batman and Superman's part to KEEP this team together both in the face of the government AND their own divisive membership. You know these characters. You care about these characters. The stakes are as HIGH as you can get... Justice League: The New frontier - Green Lantern - a war vet - is dealing with two years of interment after a nervous breakdown. Batman and Wonder Woman have gone rogue after the disbandment of the fledgling Justice League by the government (with Batman confining his actions to Gotham while Wonder Woman has become a full on one-woman mercenary team looking to bring stability and justice to third world countries) while Superman tries (and nearly fails) to keep Batman and Wonder Woman from sparking off anti-Super wars across the globe. Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter is stranded on Earth after a laboratory accident and Flash is struggling to live his life WHILE working outside the law as the Flash. After Wonder Woman's home island is invaded and her kingdom almost slaughtered by a shadowy cult that Batman has been tracking - the proud Warrior Queen is forced to go to Superman and the US for help. Worse still, heroes such as the Flash, Green Arrow, Adam Strange, the Challengers of the Unknown, and the Blackhawks decide to take matters into their own hands (with or without the consent of the military) and almost end up causing an international incident before Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman unite the heroes in a massive battle against a doomsday cult that has armies of giant mutated dinosaurs and a GIANT FUCKING FLOATING CITY SLASH WARSHIP... You know these characters. You care about these characters. The stakes are as HIGH as you can get... Justice League: War - Batman, in his usual arrogance, decides to take on a massive parademon invasion on by himself when a mother box turns up on earth. After crashing (almost literally) into Green Lantern (who believes Batman is the sources of the parademon assault) the two of them try to unlock the box - only for the whole thing to go MASSIVELY awry when they try to arrest Superman to FORCE him to tell them what's going on. Forced to reveal his identity to get Superman to listen to them after they realize attacking him is pointless; the trio of heroes deduce that the box is of alien origins but NOT Kryptonian. Meanwhile, Flash and Vic Stone's Father are investigating ANOTHER Mother box that ends up turning Vic into Cyborg while Wonder Woman (having only just left her home for the first time) is struggling to understand the wider world... and ice cream... all the while almost single-handedly slaughtering an entire Parademon squad before bumping into Superman who's trying to stop a jet from smashing any innocents. Realizing that the mother boxes are designed to terraform the whole planet; each super hero tries to deal with the problem in their own way. Complete with newly minted hero Shazaam who almost ends up getting them all killed multiple times - only for things to take a turn for the worse when the leader of the parademon invasion shows up and kidnaps Superman. Requiring the heroes to fight as a team for the future of the earth... You know these characters. You care about these characters. The stakes are as HIGH as you can get... Justice League 2017 - some... magic... boxes are hidden on Earth (rather than being kept by the people more adequate to keep them - ya know - like the green lantern corps or the Olympian gods?) to keep Saur... Steppenwolfe from coming back. Despite the fact that he can sense them - and is even supposed to be CONNECTED to the Mother Boxes - Steppenwolfe requires the aide of scientists and nobodies from Star Labs to get the three boxes. Batman barely bothers to try and recruit Aqua Man - settling for Spiderm... Flash :P while Wonder Woman (who was shown to be an independent spirit in the previous movie) is still (for god knows WHAT reason) hung up on a guy who she barely slept with... after... a century... (because, HEY! All those previous movies where she was this hardy warrior driven by honor and combat - what the fuck did they think they were doing?! Empowering women?! That's BULL shit!) allowing the current movie to urinate ALL THE FUCK OVER the previous Wonder Woman movie (the ONLY successful DC movie thus far) while she struggles to get Cyborg to join them... who joins them just to save his dad. Batman realizes how utterly POINTLESS killing Superman was in the last movie - but doesn't bother to tie into the image of Superman coming back to life in the last movie - and utilizes the power of cgi lips to revive him so they can kill this guy in one hit who was never really that big a threat to begin with because of how laughably lackluster his characterization and motivations and cg was... oh! And something something Gingerjok... Lex Luthor... something something escape... something something Legion of Doom. You don't know about these characters. You don't care about these characters. There are no stakes because the villain can never be taken seriously and you've got Dues Ex Superman waiting in the wings for the whole film... You see the problem here, DC?
