Flying the Cessna Citation XL business jet from Columbia Missouri to Destin Florida then, on to St Louis. The cockpit view of the takeoff and landings are shown and the Air Traffic Control radio communications are included. Thunderstorms are building around the Destin airport as we arrive and depart. Unfortunately, we repeatedly have to deviate to get in and out of Destin.

I love the cover photo with the happy "WE SURVIVED!" statement 😂 it's typical pilot humor. Thunderstorms are no joke, but getting around them alive is indeed lots of fun.

First time watching your channel. Great content! Are you CMA pilots? I got my pilots license while going to Westminster in Fulton and flew in and out of COU often, then I moved to Columbia in 1996 and lives there for 7 years. I really enjoyed flying around central Missouri, KFTT - COU - JEF! We probably passed each other on the way to CMA's coffee pot in the pilot's lounge.

You’ll can see hail at altitude typically. Look for the anvil of a thunderstorm, and look for an almost see thru grey streak of clouds extending below the main anvil, that’s the hail typically.

Nice flight Capt. Jim. You probably don't remember, but I told you that I bought a Cessna 340A back in 2019. I sold the plane back in February of this year. I currently have a signed purchase agreement for a Cessna 550 Citation II. As long as it passed the pre-purchase inspection next month, I'll be the owner of a Citation very soon. Your videos got me interested in the plane, so now I'll actually have one. Thanks for giving me the motivation!

The last time I saw Spirit airport it was completely submerged during the flood of 1993! I was supposed to fly into spirit the morning of my wedding, but a levy broke and the airport went under water, so I had to drive like a crazy person to make it to my wedding in St. Charles. The airport flooded so fast they were parking jets anywhere they could find a dry spot, including on a highway overpass.

That's what I like about cessna xl, fuel capacity and jet engine trust power it burns a little more but it adds more takeoff power and climbing rate. the honda jet is a beauty when we talk about fuel efficiency and fussalage space for luggage. but the Cessna take the lead in take off power hey they been in the game of aviation for quite some time so its nothing out of the ordinary that they deliver the best out there in midsize jets, do Embraer says the opposite.

I've enjoyed your vids for quite a while now, each is a new adventure. My question is, while I didn't hear any military base issues or comms, do the bases play a role in adjusting for weather? You've obviously got Eglin AFB (which also hosts Okaloosa Municiple airport too) along with traffic from Hurlburt field and to some extent Tyndell AFB. Up north near Crestview you have Duke field which is a large C130 training area too. Any of those play a role in deviating for the weather in this vid? Thanks in advance, sir!!

Thanks for your video! Boy, your onboard color radar is truly a Godsend. One of the watershed events in my life was a flight my girlfriend and I took from KDTW to KLGA via KPIT. This was in the late '70's aboard a DC-9-31. The plane was equipped with onboard Bendix monochrome radar. The flight crew was advised that there was a storm front approaching KPIT. The onboard radar couldn't help with the severity of the storm. The Captain flew us headlong into the 'willies.' Those of us (the geese) beg to disagree about the severity of the storm. The turbulence was so bad that the flight attendants were gulping down cups of water. Even then, some of them couldn't keep it down. (Before that, I had *never* seen a flight attendant need a bag.) Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, a massive lightening bolt struck the port wing leading edge just outside my window(!) The *boom* resounded throughout the plane. The geese were flipping-out. What an ugly nightmare! After we safely landed in Pittsburgh (Praise-be the Angels and the Saints) the Captain appeared at the front to address the passengers. He was a dead-ringer for 'Daddy Warbucks' from the Broadway Play 'Annie,' replete with the 'chrome dome.' The first thing the Captain announced at the top of his voice was "Well! Wasn't that fun!!!" The thought crossed my mind that there is 104 of us and one of him. If he is lucky, he might live to see tomorrow. That horrific experience took me more than 10 years and literally hundreds of flights to overcome. Had Captain Warbucks chosen discretion as the better part of valor and chosen to fly the pattern and allow the storm front to pass, things would have definitely been different in my life - as well as the lives of the other 103 other passengers. Captains please take note!

Capt Moonbeam, you fly the XL/S on a fairly regular basis. What is your general impression of the aircraft in terms of performance and value for money? I'd like to propose you having a few sessions on your channel to tell your fans more about the aircraft you fly on a regular basis, and have flown in the past, and what your experience has been in terms of their performance, reliability, and what it is like to pilot each model, as well as annual type rating checks / refresher sessions you need to do, etc. That would be awesome!! Thank you!!
