Ray, this may be a silly question but it could save you a bundle if it isn't one. Have you checked to see if you are responsible for replacing your sliding door? I ask because, in at least some states, if you own a unit in a condominium or townhouse, you do not own the exterior of your unit and are not individually responsible for repairs to it, those are the responsibility of the property's management and covered by the monthly maintenancey fees all the unit owners pay.

Can you do a video on purchasing a lease return? Specifically starting with Residual Value as base negotiating point. Basically when the lease comes back, thats what it is worth. The lease termination fee is supposed to be used to prep the car for the next buyer - so why pay another outrageous dealer prep fee? Also if the car fax shows only an oil and filter change, a wash, and maybe a wiper change done by the seller, why should there be a $3-4k markup on retail price over the RV? What does it really cost for a clean, low mileage lease return to be reconditioned (aesthetically)? Also what does it actually cost a dealer to certify a pre-owned vehicle, versus the additional $1500-2000 markup on retail price? $500?? Would love to see something like that. Personally I think $1000-1500 over dealer cost is reasonable up to $1750 perhaps. Maybe I'm out of touch with how much profit dealers make on used car. What do u guys think? Im looking for a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited specifically whose RV is about 53% of MSRP.

Ray, you are correct. Knowledge is power if you will walk away from the deal. However, emotion often takes over as in "I so want to take that vehicle Home!"

Ya gotta understand what "market price" involves. Dealers take in a trade, rush it to market with an obscenely high price in order to build perceived value of the car they are trying to sell. Then the next dealer gets a similar trade, they then will often link their price to what other the other dealer was asking, the obscenely high price. Effectively, dealers can create a market for unsuspecting buyers who think comparing price is how you shop for a used car. Comparing obscenely high prices and then choosing the one that is least obscene is a losing proposition for car buyers, but it's one the dealers count on.
@shackrat23314 жыл бұрын
Yo Tony, do you understand economics? The price is determined by the buyer, not the seller. What do you drive? What was the last car you purchased?

Check your CC&Rs and condo by-laws. However, Paul B in G'ville is correct that all you generally own is the air space; however, it may depend on whether the door you have is a replacement installed by you or a prior owner or is the original door installed by the builder (or was later replaced by the association).

Hey I appreciate you guys. I bought a CPO Rav4 at the end of August at a "no haggle" toyota dealership. I was so nervous to go no haggle (I'm a good negotiator!) but because of your videos and understanding the market I knew I wanted that specific low mile lease trade in vs all the auction cars I'd been finding. I bit the bullet, knew exactly how much I was "overpaying" and felt fine with it because I needed a car for winter and I'm not confident prices are going to change much on SUVs. I've been continuing to watch the cpos and I couldn't buy one for newer now (yay!) glad to have accepted the market and price vs holding out in stress forever.

It wasn't too many years ago when shopping for a used car I was told you don't know anything about used car prices if you are not getting your information from Galves. As a consumer, you could purchase data from them on a per-item basis. Kelly's, Black Book NADA, etc were just "consumer magazines" on prices that dealers could point to as industry accurate knowing that the true values were hidden in a car sheet named Galves. Are we still be led down the same "garden price path" using the standard car price books as references? I know new pricing services have cropped up because of the internet. But, I'm a little suspicious as to why I don't hear Galves being mentioned anymore as a source.

Hi guys, 1st I want to add I truly enjoy your show. My thought of a possible discussion on your channel is talking about Manufacture discount programs. I have access to Ford A plan and GM’s GMS plan. In the past couple years I know of a friend and a family member who both purchased vehicles, strangely one a Ford and the other a Chevrolet that more of less paid MSRP for them. I asked both why didn’t you say anything and get the automatic discounts. The plans go further than immediate family of the manufacture employee. I am thinking people need to be educated that if they relative they probably can use the benefit. I hope you understand what I trying to say. Like my Dad is the retired GM executive and my wife’s Aunt on the other side of the country can use the GMS plan, etc.

Enjoy your videos, keep 'em coming! With regards to hearing more about dealer "weapons" and tools for maximizing profits, as long as you are providing an actionable/useable "defense" for the consumer, I'd say, "yes, I'd like to see more videos on that topic." But if it's just a video saying, "here's a double-secret-industry-only tool that dealers use to separate the buyer from his money" then I'm less interested.

The price that dealers post are fraudulent. In the fine print they will post their doc fees because that is mandated by law but they also state other fees may be included. Usually this includes some type of undercoating that cost them perhaps $200 that they tack on $800 or $1000. Carvanna, Vroom, and CarMax are kicking their asses because of their no-haggle pricing and upfront doc fees.

Cox automotive owns KBB and Mannheim, they even have their own CRM and DMS. A dealer could run solely on their products. Not sure if that’s a good thing long term for competition, and it is becoming even easier to sell their products with better integrations between these tools.

How about showing the asking price at the two other dealerships along with mileage and vehicle condition? How about adding what the customer paid for the vehicle new which is listed in each County's Legal newspaper? it seems dealerships or sellers are always one step in front of the customer. Personally, unless buying a new vehicle, I always deal with a private vehicle owner at their residence with their name on the title matching the VIN# of the vehicle.

Interesting. What state are you in? I've never heard of a "county legal newspaper," although in my state notice of some legal proceedings must be published in some "newspaper of general circulation" in the municipality or county. I have never heard of any requirement or practice of listing new car sale prices in a newspaper. I have read that in Colorado certain automobile taxes are based on the MSRP -- but not on actual transaction prices.
@ronrandall71184 жыл бұрын
I live in Trumbull County, Warren, Ohio 44481. The newspaper is called, 'Trumbull County Legal News' mainly read by attorneys. All new car sales in trumbull county are published along with the make, model, price paid for the car, and I believe dealership where purchased. No used cars are published. I tried accessing it online, but unable to do so. I've looked at the newspaper at the library or even the law library downtown. I am sure you can buy a subscription online for access to viewing. Should be the same for other county's in the country I'm assuming.

Great job, guys! CarGurus and Autolist have been helpful in my area with the "metrics". But what about bargaining UP from loan/trade-in value, not down from overpriced dealer prices? My knowledge says dealers overcharge tremendously, so comparing dealer-to-dealer is sort of useless when they all overprice. Take a look at Kevin Hunter's videos (The Homework Guy) for his take on negotiating based on this. Of course, your mileage may vary. So far I've had no luck even finding something I want to try haggling either method.... ;/

Great content as always guys! I've narrowed my search for a used "luxury" vehicle to a 2015-2017 Lexus RC 350 in the So Cal area. Most are going low to mid 30s with around 20-50k miles. Is it worth paying an extra 2k or so for it to be Lexus certified? Im thinking they use a tried and true 3.5V6 that is super reliable. Also i am trying to follow your advice and wait till January but with things slowly reopening and some life changes, the need for a new to me car is becoming more apparent. Any advice would help on pricing and whether its to my advantage to hold off till January for the best pricing. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I would think pre-certified on a Lexus at that mileage point isn't necessary, especially if you see yourself back in the market in the next 3-4 years. If you are in the vehicle for the long haul and plan on keeping it for 200,000 miles, that upscale inspection might be worth some peace of mind to you. Just my opinion.
@avocadotortilla49914 жыл бұрын
Whats an upscale inspection? Is it different than a regular inspection that you would get from a mechanic when your trying to buy a car?...

You end up with the same amount of money either way. If your trade is worth 12K and you owe 3K, you net 9K. If you pay 3K to get your clear title and then go get 12K for it, you are still at a net 9K. I'm not aware of any advantages to one method over the other though I prefer not putting my money into the deal so I would not pay it off first.
