I have a request for a video on the Chevrolet Venture having head gaskets go out at around the 100k mile mark for a lot of owners due to the type of engine coolant that's called for in the manual. The coolant slowly eats up the gaskets. I have a 2005 Venture that's in tip-top condition that began overheating when I hit the 101k mark. Tried a new radiator first to no avail. Finally was told by mechanic it was the back head gasket and he wouldn't touch it for less than $2,000. We tried a gasket seal to no avail. Book value is only $4600, so am probably gonna sell as is and hope to get $2300 for it.

@@driver4011 you can expect to pay 500 just for the front brakes depending on the car lol. Most people do not even know the dealerships actually gets their parts from advance auto or autozone. I can't tell you how many times I have delivered parts to the dealership. The dealerships usually have commercial accounts with advance, o riley and even autozone. Sometimes advance will even throw in a free case of oil or something to the dealerships and the poor customer has no idea they are being ripped off from either party. One brake rotor cost 64 dollars for my pos 2012 hyundai accent. I bought two from rockauto for 35 bucks. Usually they are Reybestos or centric. Then I call my mechanic and he comes over my house and does the front brake job for 35 bucks lol. Oh and if Advance and autozone and o riley can not get the parts then they use worldpac to get the parts. Then worldpac delivers them to advance and they then deliver them to the dealership lol. By the way if anybody does not know who Worldpac is they are a wholesale distributor of oe parts for both foriegn and domestic automobiles. Oh and they do not sale parts to the general public from the best of my knowledge.

Warranty work scares mechanics out of the industry, who wants to do a heater core for 1.5 hours? Anyone?..Hello? How about an oil changes for 0.3 hours pay? That mean you have to do 3 cars per hour( time to rack up, provide a very detailed inspection and cross reference vehicle service history and wait up to 2 hours for a customer to tell you they declined all services.) because mechanics/technicians are not machines and there just isn't any money.

My 2000 Isuzu Rodeo overheated twice... I was able to make it home without the needle going into the Red. Evidently I'm leaking coolant (very slowly).. Anyhoo, I had the headgasket test done, and the head gasket is leaking. Now, there is no white smoke in the exhaust, and all I do is keep topping off the coolant and oil (its burning oill too). I've been doing this for over 1.5 years and it runs fine. Wondering how long I can keep this up. Should I use the bars head gasket sealer now, or wait till it gets worse.
@williwonti
@williwonti 3 жыл бұрын
@@sgbawg0 Depends on how big the leak is. It sounds like it might be small enough to be worth it, but it also might make things worse. @@williwonti i change the oil religiously. My make and model rodeo came from the factory with defective rings. You have to keep checking and topping off the oil. I have to tell you that often it is not the mechanic not knowing what the problem is but is instead the so called service advisers that are really just high pressure sales people. I had one rent a room from me and that man knew nothing I mean nothing at all about mechanics. He did learn from my brother that is a mechanic but still . Anyway at that time my brother worked at a Chrysler dealership. He would be told by the service advisors what repairs he was suppose to do. One day an old lady came he straight from the funeral home where she had just bought a coffin for her husband. The car had not been driven in some time and just needed a slight brake adjustment as the little adjustment wheel was locked up . So my brother put some spray on it and then got it to move and adjusted the brakes . They then worked fine. When he came into the room saying he was done the service advisors told me he had to claim or perhaps do a total brake system replacement from front to back . My brother had spoken to the old lady and knew what was going on with her . So he refused to do such work and told the lady no charge just take your car to another shop in the future for repairs. He was at that point fired.
