I wish channels would do 10,000 round AR tests like gun mags used to do in the 80s & 90s. Not full auto. Testing accuracy, reliability & headspace over 10,000 rounds. The ole Colt & Bushmaster guns survived it. Wonder if the new manufacturers would.

If ammo wasn’t so high and we could prove to our sponsors it would be worth it we would. But with 10K rounds of ammo. That’s 5K in production already, on top of the price of the gun and our time. We might get to that point one day but as of right now it’s somewhat out of our grasp.

First of all, glad I found your channel last year. Been enjoying the heck out of all these meltdowns. I just picked up my first well, second rifle with a piston set up. I was on the fence about doing it last year, but, after watching a video of another KZbinr at battlefield Vegas and how much they raved about the scar 16, had to get one. I now have another one but it’s in 308 and it will never be shot like this, so I don’t have any problems with the piston so far. But speaking on battlefield Vegas they shoot their guns not to the extreme you do here, but, high round counts. They have said that piston systems just do not last at least they did not see a reliable one compared to the HK. I guess in their Experience pistons just haven’t done well there a battlefield Vegas.

I think DI is better than short stroke piston. There has just been so much R&D put into the DI system at this point that its very smooth while also being light weight and reliable. Piston guns have a few niche advantages and even then a DI system can be tuned to excel in those areas as well. Particularly suppressed shooting is where most of the piston advantages start to reveal themselves but if you have a rifle that was designed to shoot suppressed like the Knights SR15/16 they work very well and personally I'd rather have an SR15 over an Hk416 or a Sig Spear LT. Piston guns are still cool, the HK416 is iconic and is the gun that killed Bin Laden and served some very elite units reliably over a very long period of time. I'd personally rather have an SR15 though.

USMC and Delta/Seals tests have shown that DI is superior. It just wasnt a good thing back then because those three entities were pushing for the HK416

Small Arms Solutions and Mrgunsngear talk up the 816 as an improved Sig 516, and the 516 an improved HK 416. I appreciate how product designers learn from past experience, so each iteration is theoretically better than the previous, but reality is changes introduce risk of new problems, and this gas block failure appears to be one such problem. Some will suggest meltdown aren't even a valid test, but if a given system doesn't perform better than a quality internal piston AR, what's the point?
@GoldenWebb7 ай бұрын
It’s somewhat a give and take at some point. Internal gas system would be more reliable in nothing but full auto war, but for civilians that don’t have full auto I’d prefer adjustable gas. We have plenty more external pistons, including this one, to melt so we shall see how they hold up!
@SmallArmsSolutions7 ай бұрын
This carbine was shot well beyond its design parameters. You increase your cyclic rate well over 200 rounds per minute using the adverse setting. When used properly this weapon system has passed and exceeded all NATO testing specifications. Many weapons manufactures, only use a 2-position gas valve due to just such confusion. Suppressed and unsuppressed. This way you cant inadvertently put it in an adverse position that was designed to get the rifle working in limited adverse conditions, especially a rifle that was designed to work in the desert. The Caracal rifles were designed for this purpose to have that position the troops were trained what position is appropriate for what condition.

@@SmallArmsSolutions caracal believes in the normal position it will set the record on our meltdown tests. We shall see though. We will also be testing it in our new torture test segment we have been working on, but it’s still a few weeks/months out.

From my experience, I expect you to hit the 1k mark. The designer has done several demos with this for foreign customers. It’s consistent. There is one thing I expect you will find with many of these videos. All these AR barrels will hit transformation temperature between 1200 and 1500 degrees F. This is where the heat treat reverses and the barrel fail. Your failures will not be operating system dependent but barrel temperature. Some barrel will take longer and some less to meet that temperature depending on contour (heavy vs mid weight vs light). With internal piston, if you have a non mil spec gas tube, the gas tube will fail. All gas tube are not equal. Many commercial one will not tolerate temperatures of full auto fire. External piston, only thing that should stop it is barrel droop that will prevent operating rod to function. But you can count on that temperature on both failing at the same time with same profile barrels.
