Many corvettes for example are known as mid to high end sports cars (c8 may be considered an entry super car) that people actually drive. One thing that has always been a Corvette product objective has been daily usability. Except for versions or options that are high-performance oriented (specially tires), any Vette was able to handle a Michigan winter and trips to the store. As far as GM is concerned, it's still a Chevy. Given this version's world-beating performance envelope, though, it's a actual miracle! This is what happens when GM puts their best on the job. I gotta be honest, the usability angle is actually one of the things I'm not sold on with the C8. I own an old C4 (damn near the only Corvette I could afford at my age), and that thing's rear compartment fits honest to god full-size suitcases like it's messing around. At one point, I drove a couple miles from the tire shop with two rims and *two full wheels* in the cabin, which it handled - less than gracefully, perhaps, but still. This car is still usable, even as a daily, and with the front axle lift it even has a one up on mine - but I still feel it's much more compromised than the C4 through C7 gens (C4-C6 especially) where you could actually fit half a young adult's life into the car.
@slowery432 жыл бұрын
hahaha Corvette's have never been remtoely usable in winters with their extremely heavy front ends, rear-wheel drive, antiquated suspensions, often high power output, summer traction tires, lower ground clearance,... what part of these things make it ideal in winter? @ImmortanDan2 жыл бұрын
@@slowery43 Corvettes had perfectly modern independent suspensions since 1963, and apart from the big-block C2s and C3s, always had a decently balanced weight distribution. Wheels should be designed to handle the weight and speed of the vehicle and also account for Michigan potholes, of which there are millions. One bent wheel is normal here and there. Four bent wheels is not. Unless the car ended up airborne at speed. My Bimm 1-series is known to have heavy and weak aluminum wheels. I have personally been sideways on gravel roads beyond 80mph in this car, This car has at least 3,000mi of gravel road use. And it has been out beyond 130mph, 7K rpm top of fourth into 5th on 2-lane blacktop. I have hit gargantuan potholes in the rain at night. The tire shops have gouged the wheel paint with their machines, but I have never experienced a bent a rim. These Corvette wheels are inadequate for the cars intended purpose.

Thank you for a very comprehensive review. As someone who will probably never own one of these, but nonetheless an automotive enthusiast - it's great to see that the C8 delivers on it's promise so well. Good to see that there is real substance behind the flash. If you want to do a burnout press the traction control button once. Not twice because that starts the sequence to engage launch control when in sport or track mode. After hitting the traction control once stand on the brake and hit the gas really hard. Car might start to drift sideways but it will definitely smoke the tires while sitting there.

That IS the correct way to do a burnout ... traction control off. I WOULD NOT recommend what he did with slamming the transmission from Neutral to Drive by holding down both shift paddles, hitting the accelerator, and releasing the paddles. That is definitely not good on the transmission.

This C8 Corvette is a very beautiful car, modern, sporty and can be used every day reasonably without any restriction, reasonable in terms of price (in USA) and very competitive in comparison with European similar car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes...). You are lucky in USA to have such an exceptional car which probably will be not accessible here Europe where we promote mainly electric cars and where our European bureaucrats decided to stop the manufacturing and the selling of thermal vehicles at the date of 2035. Excellent video and very relevant analysis. Many thanks.

@@MrSloika I spoke about "reasonable price" in comparison with the price of similar European cars found here in Europe. Of course, this C8 is a super car and a price 80 kUSD appears to me "reasonable" in comparison with what we see in Europe for this category of cars. Furthermore, technically speaking the C8 is really up to date in terms of embedded technologies and it is a very beautiful car.
@MrSloika2 жыл бұрын
@@STohme The 'sticker' price (retail price) is 'reasonable'. Cars in the US rarely sell at their sticker price. I don't know how it works where you live, but in the US a car dealer can charge whatever they want for a new car. I can guarantee that not a single C8 Corvette is rolling off the dealer's lot for sticker price. Because of supply chain issues, even ordinary cars like Toyotas and Hondas are selling for thousands of dollars over sticker.

fun fact, here in the Upper Peninsula my parents were plowing snow a month or two ago in their 2011 Rav 4. Ended up breaking a nice portion of the back end of the plastic undertray. The first Winter I had bought my 350z I kept my old Chrysler Sebring to drive in the Winter and got stuck in 3' of snow just 20-25 yards from the garage. Needless to say there's no way I'll ever drive a car or even lower SUV/Crossover in the Winter up here. That next year I bought a Murano to drive Winters. The Murano is perfect because it has the ground clearance to get me from A to B when we do get a good dumping of snow. Anyway I get why it's done here for the test but screw driving a car like a vette in the Winter. Especially but not limited to, yes, they just plow sometimes.
