I love my 2020 300xc tpi. It’s been flawless. I haven’t had to do much of anything to it. Added a full pro circuit exhaust and the idle screw. Tuned it and it runs great. No hesitation whatsoever. I would choose TPI, but A perfectly tuned keihin carb is fine too.

You can hear how well that carb bike is running on his first run up that hill... absolutely no hesitation and the tone never changes all the way up to the top! TPI bikes might run a little cleaner but for all out horsepower and snap, the carb bike is hard to beat!

Great vid Tokyo! I have a 14' 300xcw with RKTek head and it's an animal. There has never been a moment when I've wanted or needed more power....this coming from a self professed horsepower addict. Kudos to whomever can ride one on the pipe consistently, I sure can't.

This actually is not a good thing. What is desirable is the mello throttle and power to get traction to the ground and carry more momentum. Watch the pros ride like Jarvis and Bolt or Walker and they are 95% of the time NOT on the pipe and NOT spinning the tire lose. It’s a common misconception with dirt bike riders that a hard hit and lots of harsh acceleration is a good thing but it isn’t. It’s bad. ANY 300 has more than enough “power” right out of the box... 300 stock makes same HP as a CR500 or a KX500. Want sooner opening on the botttom just do 1/2 a turn on the power valve then, all that is needed

Garrantee if you get your map adjusted to suit what you want it will out perform Carby, I don’t mind my Carby for simple no electronics, but EFI /TPI is something you can really make an engine work at its best. And you can keep making changes to fuel/ timing via a hand held etc, instead of removing Carby multiple times hunting perfection. Once I said I’d never own a EFI dirt bike, I expected to many issues ( I have worked with car EFI for many years) . Bad plugs/ connection issues / blocked injectors / fuel pumps etc etc . But I have found the modern dirt bike to be pretty resilient. Time will tell, I recon there will be some basket case EFI bikes floating around that have tricky faults in years to come.that’s when a Carby wins.

I went from a 2012 300 to a 2020 300 tpi and have sold the tpi, they are good but feel I ride better with my old 300. I did ride my brothers 300 tpi with the TSP low comp upgrade but still prefer the carbs. So no bias and have owned both set ups. It's always opinion based though as everyone has there preference. So now the hunt for a 2017 last year of the carbed models in Europe, not easy to find as they are popular.

@rickvonderchek68983 жыл бұрын
You need to try the boyesen rad valve better low end and more top end rev . 2019 husky tx 300 with slavens head . I rode the tpi bikes . My bike has way better response more snappy which I like . Can you review the boyesen rad valve like to see your opinion.

Harsh aggressive throttle curve is a bad thing. Most of the pro riders spend a lot of time trying to REMOVE that feeling. You don’t want the wheel to spin or to lose traction. The more mellow the better.
@GeneMcEntire3 жыл бұрын
Same here, modified the Mikuni with the Jarvis mods and put rktek head and boyseen rad valve and that made massive improvements. My 18 TX runs stronger than my buddies 2020 300 tpi. Then I also added a 300 sxs ECU and got even more followed by PC pipe and R304 silencer and that combo just blows away a 300 TPI

@@GeneMcEntire all disadvantages. Jarvis's persoanl bike is very mild and mellow. most pros really try to mello out the bikes to carry more momentum and increase traction. The new TPI bikes run amazing, a simple 1/2 turn of the powervalve will wake up the bottom end more. Everything you have done to your carb bike might make it great for drag racing on the street but your buddies TPI is a better dirt bike

I'm no Pro but can hold my own pretty well and coming from a 450 MX to this I'm trying to chase all the grunt I can get. That said I do like smooth as well but the TPI just feels so bland and that's just no bueno for me.

I really don’t know much about the TPI. What if you have an oil flow problem does the bike shutdown before engine damage? It just seems like a lot of things can go wrong
@TokyoOffroad3 жыл бұрын
On the TPIs there is an oil level warning light on the dash which indicates the level is getting low (and you should add oil to the tank). Unfortunately the bike doesn't monitor the oil flow to the engine and doesn't shut down if there is an oil flow issue. However, it does monitor the oil pump electrical current, so if the current is too low, or high it would indicate a problem as a blink code on the engine warning light (4 long, 2 short lamp flashes). Yes, there are more things which could go wrong compared to a carb bike running premix. Like many things there are pros and cons...

Indeed YM 2017 KTM/Husky was the last year of off-road 2T carb bike offered for sale in Japan and from YM 2018 only 2T TPIs were available. For this reason the YM 2017 KTM/Husky bikes are quite sought after and holding value well, especially as they were the first year to have the counter balanced engine. And the TPIs are great too, in a different way...
