I've been doing keto since the end of June and I have lost just over 30 pounds this is an excellent video explaining carbs and sugars and what they do to your body. I have a friend who's diabetic numbers are off the wall ac1 through the roof I've sent this to them so they can try to understand what was going on and cut down on their carbs and hopefully help their self without all the needles and pills so thank you for this this video

I love this channel, and this was an interesting video. I have lost 40 kilos over the last year and a half by exercising, intermittent fasting and following a low-carb whole food diet. My HbA1c is 5.0, and my last fasting blood numbers were glucose 55, insulin 1.2 (HOMA-IR 0.2), triglycerides 55. Perhaps a bit too low... However, while I still plan to avoid processed foods (both processed meats and processed carbs including all grains), I am making a point to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, even if they have some carbs. The reason is that I have come to believe that the health of your gut microbiome is of critical importance to overall health, and this is not something that can be completely controlled just by deciding which macros to consume. Therefore, within sensible limits, I consume items like pumpkin, sweet potatoes, pears, bananas, dark chocolate and red wine. As recommended by researchers on the largest gut microbiome project out of the UK, I am trying to consume as many different vegetables as possible every week. I have just pivoted my diet strategy, so the results are still to be seen, but ***I would be very interested to see content on this channel that talks about the interplay between low carb diets and gut microbiome health***. I believe both are important, so hopefully they are not mutually exclusive.

My aim is to reduce the bad carbs, not so much from fruit and veg. A carrot is better than crisps! However I struggle with not eating 5 hours after my dinner when I get craving. So intermittent fasting seems a distant goal.
@karlint39
@karlint39 2 жыл бұрын
@@yoya4766 I totally understand. My current feeding window is typically about 8AM to 1PM or 2PM. So that means I have many hours of not eating before going to bed. But I didn't start that way. Before going on a diet and losing weight, I had acid reflux. The doctor recommended not lying down for 3 hours after eating, and since I usually sleep lying down (duh!) that meant that I couldn't eat 3 hours before going to bed. That was my first "baby step" (I wasn't dieting or trying to control carbs or anything.) For me, it was a good catalyst. It might work for you, or it might be something completely different that works. As I noted, my insulin sensitivity is now (not trying to gloat) excellent, and that help with controlling hunger. So doing the things that are recommended on this channel for improving insulin sensitivity (exercise, low carb, particular supplements??) may help with controlling your evening hunger. Just a thought. Good luck doing whatever you can. Any progress is better than none.

According to the FDA, carbohydrates are any macronutrient that is NOT protein, fat, alcohol, ash, or moisture. It's basically a catch-all macro. That's why different types of carbs can have such different fates after being consumed.

Subtracting fiber from your total carb count is really only valid for insoluble fiber, correct?

Although some low-carb experts disagree, it’s generally accepted that humans lack the enzymes needed to break down fiber and absorb it into the bloodstream. Therefore, the fiber portion of carbs does not raise blood sugar and insulin levels. www.dietdoctor.com/food-policy#carbohydrates

It’s not necessarily harmful. It just depends on your specific goals and your strategy. If your goal is to get your carbs low enough to get into ketosis, they should mostly be avoided, but if you’re doing a moderately low carb diet, it’s probably fine. It’s probably not harmful unless you suffer from extreme hyperinsulinemia or insulin resistance. I avoid grains and foods that spike my insulin and blood sugar because I feel bad when I eat them and I feel so much better when I don’t, but that’s just my particular physiology. Other people feel fine eating it.

Intresting you didin't mention how the body makes the glucose. Well technically carbs are essential because you still need to eat fats because the body can break down glycerol and convert it into glucose so you're getting your essential carbs from fats and also from proteins that can't be used but all of this is purely on demand.
@Blefiz
@Blefiz 2 жыл бұрын
Carbs are not essential, glucose is and that can be done by the liver in the neoglucogenis process. You don't need carbs to generate energy, it's like saying a credit card is essential to buy things because it can be used as a substitute to money, nope, money is essential to buy things.

The term carbohydrate was derived by the ratio 1:1 of carbon to water in the molecular formula of sugars and starches. C(H2O). Glucose is modified in the body for energy in the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle), but excess glucose is converted and stored as fat.

@Blefiz
@Blefiz 2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why you would consider this a specific keto video and not low carb in general. The examples brought here are not exclusive, in my opinion he is not saying that you should eat only the food presented here, onyl showing examples of low carb vegetables you can include in your diet to lower your daily overall net carb intake. It's more of 'be mindful of how it all works' and not a strict dietary plan (of course, who would eat only low carbs vegetable, where's the protein, where's the fat?). I mean, talk to you dietician or gp and ask for a low carb dietary plan and ask to adapt to what you learn here.
