I lost ~60lbs in 4 months. It was... insane. [Edit: Oh and I did 16g carbs a day. All used on butter-drenched broccoli, or popping a few almonds. If I needed a cheat, I ate a few bites of cheese cake maybe on the weekend; and right before bed, had a few teaspoons of the fattiest whipped cream so I had those cuddly feels.) Never exceeded 20g carbs. Most days, 8-16g.

Just out of curiosity, was her hair shedding or fell out?
@Aelea2 жыл бұрын
@@ashlynyorel6930 Mine? No. The opposite happened. My hair had been falling out before (I now blame my former vegitarian life style). It suddenly became glossier- probably from all of the oils. Skin looked younger too, probably because of the plumping up with oils and water (as you also become thirsty for water again and become super hydrated which also reduces wrinkles). I discovered later from my doctor that eating only carbs would make your skin cells release? She said, "your skin would slough off - there's no way you can live on no meat products." Which finally explained why I was bruising so easily, and any scabs wouldn't heal, etc. Ive had avid vegitarians chastise me that I should have been taking oil pills and supplements- but my body wouldn't even absorb the B12 injections my neurologist was giving me. Dude I even lost my period for two years. The Drs thought I was anemic. Finally, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer he started keto (because it apparently starves cancerous tumors - cancer tumors grows on carbs according to his drs at Johns Hopkins)... and so I supported him by preparing and consuming the same meals. We both noticed we were losing water weight, body fat, and generally felt generally better. All of my problems seemed to disappear - and his tumors never returned (he's now in his 70's and is cancer free)

@Gigi I am a vegetarian, so most of my diet is vegetables, nuts, dairy and eggs and sometimes a measured amount of pulses. I have found that there is a wide variety of recipes to try, I don't feel limited in any way. There is a keto replacement for almost all kinds of regular carb foods. For instance, keto bread for regular bread, using lettuce for wraps or making keto flatbreads with coconut flour or almond flour, cauliflower rice for regular rice/pizza, zucchini for pasta (There are other great options that can be bought, like edamame pasta) and so on. My main sources of fat are coconut oil, olive oil, butter, full fat dairy, cheese and nuts. Things I completely avoid are sugar, processed carbs & PUFA oils. I generally don't use any other sweeteners like stevia either because I'm insulin resistant (I have PCOS) and I don't want to trigger insulin. My net carbs per day averages between 20-40 grams. Hope this helps :)

I do daily intermittent fasting 16/8 and a sat-sun 24. I do exercise most days for about an hour. I eat low-carb, but I am finding it difficult to keep track of the carbs I eat. I just make sure that the foods I eat contain the lowest carbs possible. Though I was not overweight when I started, I have lost about 10lbs, from 128 to 118lbs (I do not want to lose too much). My goal is to be pre-diabetes-free in my next lab test. I calculate and think that I do not eat more than 30 or 40 carbs daily. Actually, I have never been a heavy eater and have avoided processes and sugar-loaded foods and drinks. However, diabetes runs in my family, and I was eating some of the carb foods like potatoes, bananas, rice/beans, bread almost daily (I grew up eating), but I also skipped meals daily, related to the demands of the work, so no problems with fasting here. I do not know if I am in ketosis or not, and I do not care that much. Focusing too much on a named diet will take too much thinking on my part. One thing I know for sure is that I am more energetic, I sleep better, and have not had too much acid reflux anymore, which for me is good enough. Wishing all good luck with diet and good health!

Started going towards keto two days ago. Yesterday did well with about 60g digestible carbs (adds up so so fast!), today I'm aiming at 40g and eventually 20-35g/d stable. Already detecting trace ketones (up to 1.5 mmol/L) in urine, which is curious to me. Not even aiming primarily at weight loss, just want a clear head and to stop eating sugar. Cauliflower and ground beef with taco spices, fried eggs, avocados and MCT oil shaken into tea/coffee/cacao with the help of cream (dairy/coconut) are just awesome. I still crave Greek yogurt with a holiday dip mix to top everything.

Something important is missing from this discussion: CARB ADDICTION. Unlike protein or fat, carbs are not really satisfying, and it's very easy to overeat them because the body is still hungry. They also seem to trigger a desire for more of the same. For those of us with "moderation" issues, no carbs is better than low carbs. And no carbs requires no counting.

No carbs is literally dumb. The reason u crave more carbs is because you’re eating refine processed carbs. They’re stripped of the fiber that keeps u full. Most people who eat carbs are not eating whole based plant foods. It’s quite funny that ppl don’t start eating them until they go keto because the diet literally forces you to eat them. Before you were eating breads, pasta and cookies. Now you’re eating broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, nuts and berries. Stop blaming carbs. Carbs isn’t the issue. Eating processed carbs are. Keto is definitely a gateway to eat “healthier” but it’s not sustainable for a lifetime.

25 grams is a sweet spot occasionally less or more that is 10 on low end 35 on high end Try to maintain in the range but if one day in a month you hit 50 or 60 don’t panic just move back down . After major surgery I upped it to 35 As I had been running a heart rate of 120 for days and very little food so I craved just a bit more carbs for a few days that’s ok , the goal is balance over the long run slow and steady weight loss for instance will let you change your whole life style for lifetime sustainability. I'm 5'10" 145lb and I eat pretty high fat diet with protein, with my observation I notice I need to increase my carbs from 20 to atleast 50 because before it was just too hard to maintain weight (I was losing weight) and the reason is because I also combine keto with I intermediate fasting 16:8 and 18:8 and once a month 24h fasts. On top of I play volleyball that puts some cardio reps on my body. I think I want to stay at 150lb so will see if I'll get there

Thanks Doc👌 Please also clarify , for a person who does 16/8 fasting with ketosis, how much carbs taken in the first meal should be okay for keeping on ketosis ? Lets say 7pm dinner, then next morning first meal is at 12 (noon) how much carbs eaten will stop ketosis ? or not? thx in advance,

Do you keep burning body fat right after eating as long as you are in ketosis?

Thank you for this video. I've wanted to start the carnivore diet, but I'm concerned about a lack of fiber, and I wonder about small or trace amounts of carbohydrates sneaking in. I think this answers things for me. I weigh 195 and I'm active. I have some belly fat. I eat 5 meals per day (6a, 9a, noon, 3p, 6p) each meal ~500 calories. My goal is to noticeably burn some belly fat, though the weight itself doesn't bother me. I drink water and black coffee only... no sweeteners ever. Hoping to simply swap out 3 or 4 of my meals for just meat and cheese then see what happens. Dinner will still have green & red fruits & vegetables.

Ok so today is October 13th, 2020 to date this comment. I’ve done keto a few times, anywhere from a few day’s to a month or two. I started getting back in keto a couple weeks ago, with some off day’s with baby showers and birthday party’s. Now I’m strict keto. How many of you have gotten the “keto lecture” from friends and family? You know the one that says something like “oh that can’t be safe/good for you, you don’t need to do that, why don’t you do this instead?” Or something along those lines. My advice is to quietly do keto yourself and have your own little victories as you hit goals, enjoy the many awesome keto foods and meals, enjoy the benefits and communicate with other keto lifestyles online if you want. I think that other people are sometimes the biggest obstacles or greatest resistance to you doing keto. Show them your blood test results after you’ve been on it for some time :)

I hear different recommendations about grams of carbs. One thing I hadn't heard until I had been omad and kind of keto for years, and lost over 40 lbs, was that like overall food in general, just burn more than you intake. So if you intake more than 20G of carbs just make sure you are burning those carbs up so that your body stops using them as fuel. So drinking a coke is fine just make sure you burn enough energy to use all those carbs up. Is this correct? Is it really as simple as daily carbs can be used up and gotten rid of?

I use “My Fitness Pal” to calculate all the components of my diet. Although I eat just a quarter glass of lentil soup 🍲 and around a glass of fresh vegetable salad 🥗 with avocado 🥑, I still get at least 50g of carbs daily. That’s always disturbing the overall percentage of fats and oblige me to eat much more fat concentrated food like organic butter to ensure that fats consists of 70% of my diet. I was shocked 😳 by the fact that even organic fat heavy food like Avocado 🥑 still contains as much carbs as fats. That’s really confusing me. I am totally unable to lower my carbs to 20 as almost everything including walnuts also include carbs and the application count it 🤷♂️. What can I do ?!

Cutting out 100% of carbs means going on nothing but meat, eggs and fat. Meat also spikes insulin lol
@priestesslucy4 жыл бұрын
@Corality insulin is your body's storage hormone. It's triggered whenever you're digesting protein or carbohydrates. For the duration that your insulin levels are elevated, your body can't burn bodyfat. Trigger insulin with insufficient food energy to cover the duration of the insulin spike, and your body winds up having to break down protein into glucose to keep all systems in operation. Insulin in and of itself isn't bad, but the more often you eat, the more often you take yourself out of bodyfat burning mode even if you're eating on a deficit. Honestly I'm not sure why I pointed out the insulin thing to begin with at this point lol, but it is good to understand your body's hormonal response system.
@priestesslucy4 жыл бұрын
@Corality carbs have a more powerful insulin response than protein lol. All I was saying is that meat isn't a magic bullet that solves all problems, eating frequency is an important factor.

I have been religiously doing keto for three months and most of the time do less than 20 net carbs a day. I mostly eat whole foods that I prepare but I do eat the occasional low carb bar and fat bombs but always within my macros. Sometimes I go a little over on the fat but never the protein. I lost 6 pounds in the first week and over the last three months have gained it back and I am now at the same weight I started. I got a blood Keytone meter yesterday and I’m not even in ketosis. The meter has consistently shown 0.2 over 5 strips in 24 hours. I’m really stuck because I don’t drink alcohol or diet sodas and any sweetener I use is Stevia or Monk fruit/erythritol. I measure and weigh EVERYTHING. I started drinking tons of water...I’m walking a few days a week. I’m just wondering if maybe I’m not eating enough calories…even though I know some very popular keto doctors say that calories don’t matter. And how can I gain back the 6 pounds if I wasn’t eating enough calories? Unless all that was was water. I’m 5’6.5 and weigh 260. I do have more muscle than the average woman being a former paramedic. The last few days I did around 1350 calories. Most days I meet my fat or maybe exceeded a little bit. Day I actually didn’t made it completely but almost. I met my protein about 3/4. Fitbit says I burn roughly 2400 to 2600 cal a day depending on my level of activity. Lately I have been very sedentary due to Covid and staying home more often taking care of my terminally ill husband but to not have lost anything in three months, clearly I am severely insulin resistant but my A-1c is 5.1 and I have cured my T2 diabetes, as far as my BG and A1c goes. I never needed insulin but just took Metformin. I’m off that now after 4 years of it. Last year I lost 70 pounds on a vegan diet (1390 calories with about 100 carbs a day and consistently lost a pound to 2 pounds per week. I was a lot more active, getting a lot more exercise but there were several days at a time where I was very weak and dizzy. So I probably was not eating enough calories. I also lost a lot of hair because I don’t think I was eating enough protein. My diabetic friend suggested I try keto and it’s not hard for me. I love the way that I feel on keto. I have so much energy, all my hair has grown back and I’m really clear minded, so I don’t want to give up but I’m getting discouraged. What am I doing wrong? I know that I’m pretty severely insulin resistant. I remember a couple years ago my naturopath told me that my insulin was really high and she wasn’t sure why. Last year I found out that I have a fatty liver. But all that was before keto and I’m not even eating 20 net carbs every day. Today I only did 16. should I maybe go down to 10? Does this mean that I just have to start doing IF? And should I be eating more calories for my weight and what I burn every day? This is what I’m super confused about. Am I not eating enough calories for what I’m burning every day? I mean I’m eating at least 600 to 1000 calories less than what I burn. How am I not losing any weight? How could I actually gain all the weight back I lost in the first week of doing keto? Hoping someone has some constructive advice for me. I’ve been so dedicated for three months and it’s just such a bummer to not have lost. I feel like I must have some really crazy metabolic problem. Thanks for any advice you can give me! 🥰

@@dietdoctor thank you, but on one hand in the Section 6"What is optimal ketosis?" it says Around 1.5 - 3 mmol/l is called “optimal” ketosis by some. However, the concept of optimal ketosis is controversial, and it’s unclear if it offers any substantial benefits over the 0.5-1.5 level. so that would be the two middle colors on the keto test strip. it also says "Over 8-10 mmol/l: It’s normally impossible to get to this level just by eating a keto diet. It means that something is wrong" Then in "Mesuring Ketones under Urine strips it says " the color change will show you the presence of ketones.38 If you get a high reading (a dark purple color), you’ll know that you’re in ketosis." But the Dark purple is 8.0 + mmol/l clearly I am missing something. with Urine test strips is 'the darker the better'? or is darker 'dangerous'? I used to strive to get in to very dark colors, but now I have no idea what my goal should be.
