I had a '66 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible that I sold and that went to Sweden. The guy I sold to sends me photos of it. He just repainted it in the original Candlelight Cream, Black top and interior . I don't like seeing our cars leave the country, because they'll never set tire back in the US. Great story and video.

Great story. Brings back memories. Bought my 66 Ford Custom (390) in 1988 for $800 in SF, Ca . Not a little old lady but a neighbor I didn’t know who had put a sign in the window. Basically, same car w less trim and was a 2 door. 38,000 miles. Loved it. And I was a motorcycle guy. Sold it (to go overseas for a year) to a buddy for $1200 in 89. Regretted it eve since...but in my mind there was no choice back then.

In the late 1980's, I pulled a 1946 Cadillac sedan from an old garage in Santa Ana. It had been parked there for 20 or more years. Family was selling the property to an insurance company so car had to go. Only 40,000 miles, had a V8 and auto trans. A tune-up, service, new gas tank, and new tires, and it was ready to go. Purred like a kitten. Drove it for a couple years. Wish I still had it.

My mom and dad had the exact same year and what appeared to be the same level of equipment. I found it unusual that Ford made 4 door hardtops back then. My mom and dad's was light green metallic with a black vinyl top. When they got it, it had the seats covered in the plastic also. I was a teenager when they had it and if they had known how fast that car was with that 390 they wouldn't have let me drive it probably. Now I know for sure if they had seen how I drove it they would have never let me drive it again. It was powerful enough to spin the tires indefinitely until you let off the gas pedal. On a side note, if you only get blue or depressed for a day you don't realize how fortunate you are -- sometimes I can go for years down in the dump before I can pull myself out of the funk.

@@Carchaeology Depression has nothing to do with having a good life -- people that have never experienced depression don't really understand -- it isn't something you just pull yourself out of. Great story!! They were really handsome cars and that one was a stunner. So much more modern that Fords of a couple of years prior. I don't know how it happens that people park a perfectly good car in a garage or barn and forget about it, but it does. I found a midnight blue, 1965 ford Custom in an old barn (At an estate sale) in 1999. It had a Ford 289 engine (one of the indestructibles, like the Chrysler slant 6), it was fully equipped, and it was in cosmetically perfect condition, and had a very believable 46,000 miles on the odometer.. I bought the car for $800.00. It took all of $1800.00 to get it up and running perfectly. You know, plugs, points, wires, fluid changes, brake pads carb tune up, fresh tires, and other rubber, a good paint buff, etc. I drove it for three years, and then sold it for $8500.00....which actually was still a good deal for the buyer.

You did NOT state what year you did this.. My 69 CJ fb Stang, purchased June 69, is in my garage... We didn't buy CJs or others - my 67 GT500 or 70 Boss9 - to just sit so its not as pristine as this car appears. Every day as I wonder how many more days there are, that thought of where it goes after me is there. How little did we realize then what would become of these cars decades later. Sold the Boss9 1974 for $3,000.... Who knew? Found the build sheet for it a couple of years ago and wonder what ever happened to it.
