@@brianburgess3231 It is Obama and Biden's fault, because small, inexpensive trucks are ILLEGAL due to the unachievable CAFE standards that both Obama and Biden made law that affect "light duty" vehicles, and these liberals demand over 50 MPG from them, which cannot be done, so, the auto manufacturers, in order to comply, have to "bloat out" trucks so that they are over 8,500 in Gross Vehicle Weight Rating as well as have a large wheelbase and track width in order to get them classified outside of the "light" category, then they fall under much relaxed standards. That is why the "cheap, light" trucks virtually disappeared, thus the reason a new truck costs $75-$100K.

Yep. These are the model years of the vehicles I own: 1951, 1963, 1972, 1984, and my newest...1992. Nothing I own has any airbags, nor do any of them even have a rear, center mounted brake light.

@lawrenceartz8640 can't recall when the overhead brake lights were mandated...kind of a stupid idea. My trucks are 41, 50, 54, 65, 66, 76, 77, 78, 81, 83, 87, 98 and 99. I drive the 99 most of the time so it has well over 200k miles with the original drivetrain. Four of the others are waiting for me to repair them but the rest are OK for the road. I have some newer SUVs also...PITA!! Only one car!...a 62 Chrysler with 413 V8. Many of these vehicles have been in my family for 30 - 40 years.

I will do everything I can to keep my analog car and truck for as long as I can. Engine dies; rebuild. Gearbox, same. Nothing interests me in modern vehicles. They can be remotely controlled, rat you out, expensive, recall prone, high insurance, not engaging (both mine are manuals), unattractive (the Santa Fe, retro malaise, UGH!). Just nothing of interest out there. It is why the Classic car market so strong.

Yep, I also like the Toyota Champ. Totally modular. Base price a little over $10k "bare", and a bed with removable sides and tailgate it becomes a flat bed. Super fuel efficient and low emissions, but very mighty.

It's exactly the same here in the UK but we don't have anyone to kick back on these crazy mandates. They will stop selling gas cars in 2030 but the general public do not want EVs it's only busines and lease companies that buy them because of tax breaks. Car prices have gone through the roof because regulations are demanding so much technology be incorporated into cars that nobody asked for and that the dealers don't know how to fix when it fails.

As far as affordability goes, most people aren't affluent. What America needs to do is to create the equivalent of the Toyota Corolla and not just at that kind of price point but that kind of QUALITY. American quality is in the toilet. America needs to up its game and provide a car for the average shmo who hasn't got 40 or 50 grand to blow on a car because they're living paycheck to paycheck. So many people in that boat and the manufacturers don't give a dam because they want to sell high end high profit vehicles that most people can't afford.

I am keeping my 1990s Corollas. These cars are still very serviceable. Used good condition 4AFE/7AFE motors and transmissions are cheap. I can drive these cars forever. In other parts of the world the AE92 and AE111 Corollas are common daily drivers - parts are cheap. I'm staying the course for another decade.

Incentives only drive up prices and consumer income taxes. As soon as incentives were implemented for EV’s the manufactures increased the price of all vehicles so they could be profitable or more profitable. I support tariffs on China (CCP) but the rest of the auto industry must not raise prices just because China made vehicle prices to consumers increase. That will only drive more inflation. Don’t know if that can be regulated, but without it, prices will just keep increasing.

they may help kill it as will people not wanting them due to expenses in buying running and owning them. for ex trying to put 2.4 L turbo 4 Cylinder in a heavy vehicle like a truck/SUV hell even the GMC Motorhome doesn't work well doing that in a compact/midsize sedan though works fine as a base engine heck even in a Ford Mustang the base engine is a 2.3 L eco boost 4 Cylinder all though the top engine available in the GTD race car is a 319.33 cubic in or 5.2 L V8 HP 815 thus far the fastest factory Mustang ever

President Bush kicked off the renewable energy push in response to a national security concern because he saw that the Middle East could one day hold us hostage for oil. China observed the same lesson and copied us. The difference is that the GOP likes the money of oil lobbyists more than the security of our country. This back and forth on EVs has let China lead the world for renewable energy and will cause US legacy auto to go bankrupt again. Global demand is for EVs, not ICE and no amount of whining about it is going to change the transition away from gas. We should be trying to lead, but we have become a nation of idiots.

BS!! All my old gas powered vehicles owe me NOTHING!! Even if gas prices skyrocket, I would have to burn a hell of a lot of gas to even get close to the price point it would be to buy, pay for, register, maintain and insure an EV. All my gas cars combined (and I have 5 on the road currently) cost me a small fraction it costs to register one new EV.

@@lawrenceartz8640 hasn't been my experience. If you are looking at luxury EVs I could see some of those going up. The Chevy Equinox is definitely not luxury. Nor was the Nissan Leaf or Chevy Bolt. I tend to think most Tesla vehicles are garbage for quality, but the Model Y is pretty affordable and doesn't have higher costs. Just about every EV will have less maintenance costs over a gas car. My expense tracker shows my vehicle category is more than 75% lower than when I owned a gas car. If you get a Cyberjunk, I mean Cybertruck, then you'll have some of those issues.

@@lawrenceartz8640 I can better that one....I have at least 16 vehicles here on my farm that run on gas or diesel, all are usable yet, all are paid for and the total investment is still less than an EV and less than the AVERAGE price of a new car today. No charging to worry about, no high insurance (liability only), no range anxiety, no expensive repairs bc I can repair any of them myself with basic hand tools. No expensive parts to buy. I could go on but....my comment will probably just be removed by YT anyway.

Also we don't need to use oil drilled from the earth to make it, there are lots of viable bio-plastics as well as plastics in the environment that can be reclaimed and used again, not to mention just reusing plastic stuff more. Furthermore the applications of plastic often can be fulfilled by some other material such as wood, glass (which has its own sustainability issues), rubber, or leather. Not to mention all the other stuff made from oil that can be replaced by a "green" alternative. That being said there surely is some stuff we do need it for but it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the amount we use for fuel and plastic.

I have, at one point back in the 70s...made my own fuel at home which did work but would have needed more $$ to improve it. Shhhh...don't tell anyone!! However....oil from the ground is used for a multitude of other products, many of them directly impacting national security, defense department.
