Pre-podcast podcast is my new favorite podcast format. Side note, here is what the ban-list should be: when a certain card consistently garners groans and eye-rolls, it's time to consider, as a matter of courtesy to your play group, retiring the offending card (and that goes for non-banned cards... ahem cyclonic rift... ahem) I've been the old man yelling at clouds about this for the better part of a decade, but defaulting to meta specific Rule 0 parameters should be STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE! Also, I agree about trying out banned cards for a "probationary period" for lack of a better term.

Related to Ante - My friends and I used to play the 5 Color format and we played with the Ante cards, but we played for Scribble Ante. So you woulnd't lose the card, but the winner got to doodle on it. We had a soft rule of not drawing on really expensive stuff (granted this was back in the early 2000s so nothing was super bonkers, but we didn't doodle on dual lands), but I've kept a lot of the cards that we drew on for the fond memories.

One “un card” you guys might not have remembered is the card split screen. In casual it’s a hilarious way to get advantage off of cards like oracle of mul daya or future sight. I never got to pull it off though because that un card legal period was so short lived.

Banned partners would be too crazy, but I wouldn’t mind trying less severe ways to mitigate them. Partners having shared commander tax or 1 less opening card are the popular ones, and I’m curious how much of an impact they would actually have.

To me the issue with Flash is the instant speed aspect. So Flash is not just you're win-con it's your answer to a win-con. So you'd see more Ad Nauseums because it's safer to play into counter magic than into someone who can win on top of you.

How do you guys feel about certain color combos limited ways to interact with certain combos? Like, is everyone just supposed to play 4-5c soup with partners? Should individual commander cards be the only way to have a commander instead of partners? Or should other colors genuinely have newer/meta ways to better interact with certain combos/lines of play? It's always easy to say, for example: Just play blue. When that's not what someone wants to do. I guess once you answer those questions, banning cards becomes a different discussion. Would really like to see discussion around that. Also, you guys see the data about going first and doing a scaling scry to counteract that? Interesting stuff. Have a good day boiz.

i currently have dice rolling related Un cards inside of my Farideh, Devil's chosen deck and they don't break it. steel Squirrel however can get pretty nutty if there's no blockers and Sword of Dungeons and Dragon's is just a fun card in general.

On the topic of Un-Cards: Still perplexed at how they printed un-partners but didn't make them commander legal. So the partner mechanic on those cards does literally nothing??? Also on the topic of banlist: free my boy Golos!!! I just like having a 5c commander that fetches any land :( even if it was just lands with a basic land type (so still triomes but no field of the dead) I just want my 5c fixing/ramp. Delete his activated ability if that's what it takes. Also also: I agree with Cam on the Godsire deck, that's why I dislike the "just rule 0 it!" attitude, because you are putting together a 99 card deck and if someone doesn't want to play against it (which is fair, as you are building outside of the rules) you just can't use it (btw great video guys!)

I personally don't play 4 or 5 color decks anymore because I think 3 color 2 color and mono color is just funner to build around. Like I could but I'd also probably not be playing a very Azorius Gruul or Selesnya playstyle for example because oh my 4 or 5 color has those color combinations but is actually more x y or z focused instead. I think that restriction on myself keeps me interested in the format.

Manaform Hellkite really brought into question if reprinting a literal "better" version of a reserved list card was that big of a deal. Here we are today. There is a card called "Cancel" it requires two blue mana and a colorless mana and it's text is VERY simple: Counter target spell. Every set that introduces a new "gimmick" introduces literally a new form of "Cancel" that has "costs one less if" or "also does" to such a point that if WotC really wanted to, they could give us an effective reprinting of cards like Time Twister, it would had a different name and it would have "Raid" or "Metalcraft" or "Devoid" or "Pay X instead and target opponent puts a permanent on battlefield" realistically there's nothing stopping WotC from reprinting certain cards, lands however, it's nice to finally get "ETB tapped" version of the dual lands in Dominaria United finally but a land that ETB's tapped has to warrant it's inclusion and ultimately the dual lands on the reserved list are stuck there. i would be HAPPY if cards on the "Reserved list" were banned in commander, it would only effect Lions Eye Diamond, Mox Diamond, Time Twister, and the dual lands.

I completely agree with not banning partners. My only complaint (and it's a "spirit of the format" complaint) is when people pick a partner just for the colors and not the commander itself. That bothers me. But not enough for bans or anything like that.

I think Thassa's Oracle and consult are still insane in casual EDH but no one plays them because they either hate combo or it's too strong. I run Splintertwin as a win con in my deck but it's infinitely worse than if I just ran Thoracle.

I suppose the only thing I could add to the ban discussion would be to consider the idea of not banning due to power but due to like repetitiveness. I don't think dockside thassas etc should ybanned due to power level but It might make my games more entertaining if I saw a different way to get to those wins
