1) Set a deadline 2) Start breaking down the project/ chunking 3) Prioritizing- date the orders week by week 4) Transfer the list of tasks to task management system. Time block on your calendar 5) Work on Mindset- do not wait for spirit of motivation to hit you 6) Follow through- have strategies in place. Accountibility buddy, teamwork 7) Most critical is to have a review process. Weekly review

😂 The snack and a nap part made me LOL so hard!! I have inattentive type ADHD and am in a super procrastination phase where responsibilities are piling up high but am constantly snacking and napping 😂

Please don't be intimidated. A great book to read is 'atomic habits' by James Clear. His book shows the even the most miniscule changes can build up to massive ones. It's a great book for an ADHDer as it gives the incentive to make that start.

What struck me about this video was your confidence in expressing time estimates for tasks. My presentation of ADHD-PI falls into what you described as those blessed people who can break a big task down into minutia. At work it is an hourly battle of every dedicated period of active focus, to not let that minutiae cause me to lose perspective of that bigger picture that seems to come so naturally to you. This compulsive minutiae detail generation is also a severe artifact in my unrestrained communication: I make my points like a Slinky. It’s amazing if it is a straight point. So given my chronic self-induced trauma of saying textwalls that I don’t know where or when they will end… How are you able to have so much trust in your time estimates and your ability to combat perfectionist scope creep? Thank you for publicly sharing your experiences. As a 30F it was grounding to hear your perspective, and seeing how my journey has similarities to yours.

Can you share the name of the video with the fridge schedule? That is what I’m having trouble with the most. I get excited about a new recipe, buy the whole store and stuff my fridge….only to have amnesia the next day and find food treasure in the fridge a month later lol 😂

@@BeautifulDreamerK I have handdrawn a table of my most used dishes. I buy for 7 days each time and put a magnet on the dishes I bought ingredients for. When I choose the dish of the day from the list and cook it, I remove the magnet. Then I don't need to remember why I have tahini in my fridge or remember what I can choose to eat 😅 If I feel creative and buy food for a dish not on the table, I just add it on a post-it note that week :D

Thank you Caren, I like listening to you because you're funny but also good at explaining things. I am impressed that you manage to have your own company. I am burned out now, and have struggled on and off because of tough life situations. I get up and try but just get a few steps ahead. Working hundred percent at a school, when I get home I don't have energy for much. Still I manage things, like last year I studied part time. I think I got burned out mostly because of my colleagues complaining I was away studying one day a week. The atmosphere. I know, I should change jobs but I do not have the energy to even make a cv, apply to other places at the same time I'm working. I am honestly so drained. I think I'm very affected as well because one of my dearest friends daughter died (run over by a moped) just recently, she was only 29 yo. Also a recent empty nester... doesn't help... I have my faith though, and that is the most important thing in my life. Jesus helps me with everything. Right now too. I just find your channel to be helpful and maybe one day I will get the energy to take similar steps like you or other steps but just changing my life to the better - although I am very happy and thankful with my life now, I could make some changes so that I don't fall into this burned out loop situation - or that I can get up faster so it doesn't get that far. Hahaha, I use chat GPT for the exact same thing!! I'm glad I'm not alone. Although I swear, it used to be a LOT smarter. They've dumbed it down a bit for some reason.

@@Wasatch_Sasquatch Both times! Before I start, when I'm stuck on a project, brainstorming help, to generate lists. It is great in helping you break down steps. When the planning & working memory part of our ADHD brain is malfunctioning, substituting that part of your brain for AI saves time. When I'm stuck on writing a research paper or essay, I'll just copy and paste the directions/rubric into the thing and then ask ChatGPT "Tell me how I should tackle this essay step by step". I suggest not relying on it for complex math or accessing complex & specific information, and if you do, make sure to fact check. It is likely to be wrong. It does give good general knowledge & common sense things, so it's good to get a big picture and getting started

What do you do if you start to break down a task/project, and just... looking at the sheer amount of work sucks any enthusiasm, joy, motivation, or dopamine out of the process? It just feels like... walking into Mordor, carrying a car on your back.

Check your expectations. When you break something down, you have to consider the tasks across time, which is hard for adhder's because it's an exec function. Remember - you eat an elephant one bite at a time.
