I've worn Dickies work pants for the past 13 years working as a machinist. My last pair that I purchased I noticed that they changed their fabric of ALL their pants and not for the better. It feels a lot thinner to the point where they almost fell like dress pants. I might be switching to a different brand soon.
@coreyd532918 күн бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. They also used to be thick and crisp and basically stand up on their own for a couple months even after washing. Now they are just thin right from the start. They still fit the same but they definitely changed the fabrics.

Much appreciated man! In my mechanic days we had those terrible Red Kap uniforms which would light on fire whenever we welded. Working outside and by the sea,I really needed a warm workwear jacket.First i bought Dickies Portland which is poly flannel exterior and poly padded quilt inside for 35 usd.I was amazed how warm this thing was in temperatures between 40 and 50F.But I wanted an upgrade since it started showing some tear and wear so i ended up buying Carhartt Traditional Sandstone jacket with arctic quilt lining for 140 usd.Fit was perfect so is the looks.But..it's not as warm as the flannel dickies one which really disappointed me.I probably blame the sandstone duck cotton exterior which even though is much more tough against abrasion,doesn't seem to provide enough insulation against constant blowing cold sea breeze.I know that they 're not comparable not even close.Carhartt is a proper-proper jacket with excellent details and stitching and Portland Dickies is a flannel shirt-jacket.But because of the "field testing"results i ended up wearing the carhartt on all other occasions but not at work.. Glad to see the updates on the Carhartt. I think this is the jacket I had while working on the Rail Road. I worked out of Toronto where it is cold and very damp. The coat was warm. The exposed cuffs did wear badly around the wrists and a bit around the waist. The thing I hated was the waist cuff. Any big movements, like climbing ladders on rail cars had it climb up your torso, leaving you exposed. I currently have a Carhartt Full Swing Relaxed Fit Insulated Coat. I love it. I tried on a Carhartt insulated vest in the same size as my chore coat (XL) the vest was VERY SMALL, more like a medium. Carhartt is better quality for the most part but that is offset by their BIZARRE SIZING. Carl you should do a video of Carhartt shirts, jackets, vests to compare just how much sizes can vary. Dickies sizing is more consistent but quality is slightly lower.

Being made in Mexico (our neighbors) vs outside of North America is more than enough of a difference to justify the price difference. If it's not made in the USA, being made in North America is the next best option.

A bit unfair comparison , Theres a Dickies "Jefferson" Duck jacket thats 100% comparable to the Carhartt jacket your reviewing , It has triple stitching - reinforced elbows and also has the same sleeve design with chest pockets too .

i've been a loyal Dickie's customer for over 13 years, but i'm switching to Carhartt in the future & probably not gonna go back. i probably owned 30+ Dickie's garments in the past 13 years, including pants, shirts, outerwear. i must say, they are not really comfortable, but because they are very durable & care-free & very cheap, i still chose Dickie's. but in recent years, i witnessed the gradual deterioration in their quality. the final strew that broke my loyalty is the extremely poor stitching on their hook & loop patches. last year i bought a pair of shorts, the hook & loop patch on the shorts' thigh pocket was torn off within 2 weeks of use. this year, i bought the Dickie's Pro Cordura bomber jacket & the inner pocket's hook & loop patch was torn off after 2 USES. FUCKING. 2. USES. on a Dickie's "Pro" garment. you call this durable workwear? this is just absurd. Carhartt is like 15-25% pricier in my country than the US, but the hell with it. next time i'm buying new workwear, it's gonna be a Carhartt!!!!!

I'm an electrician in commercial construction and I use both brands. For winter or outside work, or if I'm on the floor (literally) all day then it's Carhartt work pants or overalls because the padded knees and bulletproof materials. But in the summer or if I'm inside, I wear Dickies slim fit pants (after 10 years the only issue is how they look. Some industrial adhesives just don't come out) and lightweight jacket. Carhartt has nothing for summer and it's all heavy duty which is tiring up and down 3, 4 or 8 flights of stairs all day. Over 10 you get an elevator, so think of walking up and down up to 9 flights in that jacket 15 or 20 times a day. I'm not loyal, I'm practical. Edit: Milwaukee has some heated vests and jackets that are amazing. Nothing is worse than working outside all day, out in the elements and the electric jackets make it much nicer.

Bought a dickies jacket from Walmart a few months back. Looks like it will last 1 maybe 2 seasons but for $28 not bad
@CarlMurawski4 жыл бұрын
Thats a good point, and the price per wear is low with that cost. If you get especially dirty at work or maybe your clothes only last a season maybe Dickies is a better option. For $28 how could you go wrong?
@Jason-zw2dg4 жыл бұрын
@@CarlMurawski also i get the rustler brand jeans from Walmart and wear them for work. They're less than $10 a pair and last about a year and a half. Basically free work pants

Dickies jeans also have fewer belt loops than Carhartt, but the biggest difference I've found in the two brands is in their hooded sweatshirts. The Dickies brand the back always shrinks after washing and exposes your back, even in the supposed "tall" sizes.
@monkeymcgee36302 ай бұрын
I've have the dickies hooded shirt jacket for a few year. Used in every season when cold enough. The jacket may be a little heavy but it is duck canvas with insulated inside. Paid about 70 for it. Would recommend for others to pick one up. Extremely warm and durable

Hello Carl, I would like to get more information on trade school, your video from the past really intrigued me.
@birdlandbill78674 жыл бұрын
Hi Carl. Learning a lot from your videos about real work clothes. Speaking of which, I see you like the Carhartt Cryder. Sounds good, but I'm wondering how snag and tear resistant it is? I work pretty much every day (including MN winters) in the woods clearing buckthorn trees. Pretty gnarly tree. I'm inclined to go with the Active Jacket. However, also like having a little length to jacket to provide more protection to midsection when reaching/bending. Your thoughts most appreciated.

Carhartt is just a better engineered product in all items in the Hard Finish Brown Black also The Extremes Ballistic Nylon line. All the small details add up fast for value. I have a pair of Heavy Duty YKK Double Zip to Hip Extremes Ballistic Nylon Bib Overalls that have an insane amount of special features. The Double Zip system allows you to get into your pants pockets easily and allows you to take the bibs off with out removing your Boots for starters, but also has button down wind flap that I only when on my Motorcycle. Definitely the Shizzle for Bibs. I wear a pair of Hiking shorts under them since they are too warm with pants in Arctic environmental temps and zippers don’t freeze up. The Hard Finished Jackets and Coats do come in tall sizes that you might have to special order from dealers. I prefer tall size at 6Ft. in Carhartt Jackets.
@CarlMurawski4 жыл бұрын
An interesting point about that Extremes Ballistic Nylon: Carhartt does extensive testing and couldnt wear through that stuff with their abrasives!
@milolabrett65494 жыл бұрын
@@CarlMurawski The Balistic Nylon or Cordura that they use in the Extremes is 1500 Denier, which is a measurement of thickness or density of thread count I believe. For example Klim, which is high End Motorcycle Gear use 800 D to 1000D Cordura. So Carhartt Extremes are for Extreme conditions, but also on Extreme end of Denier scale.

Ricardo Cavazos I don’t know were you live but I’ve never seen lifetime warranty the cause I’ve never seen it if you buy at TSC or marks workwear house who carries them in Canada I’m pretty sure they will not exchange cause broken zippers a year later or ratty sleeves from repetitive driving rubbing on steering wheel so I don’t know that triple stitching in the sleeves is shit mine are the heavey insulated artic zone garbage zippersmand sleeves in a year and a half for me in Canada
