Reinecke's symphonic works are the ultimate in pure, unadulterated, abstract, pure Romanticism. You ddon't have to be original to be a genius.
@roberthayes77373 жыл бұрын
To be honest, originality (to the extent that it is possible) is quite overrated.

Roger Nortman -- ....But, then, How do you explain Rakhmaninov?
@sandryushka9 ай бұрын
@@steveegallo3384 As long as you have a pure enough and passionate enough musical feeling inside, and are capable of transferring that to music, you get someone like Rachmaninoff. Somebody very pure and introspective.

Until earlier this year - 2023 - I had hardly heard a note of Reinecke’s music. I came across this concerto thanks to Simon Callaghan’s excellent recording on Hyperion (released in January 2023, and including Reinecke’s First, Second and Fourth piano concertos), with the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas. What a fantastic work, and by a quite marvellous composer as well!

I can't believe this is the first time I'm hearing a Reinecke concerto... not because I chose not to listen to them, but because I wasn't aware he had written any. This is quite stunning.

I´m writing two years after you sent your message. I didnt know him till today when i heard this concert in a classical music broadcast. I dont know why he is so unknown. He is a good composer. Te concert makes me think in Brahms.

This is an accomplished, tuneful, exhilarating concerto, showing the influence of Liszt and Schumann, but also much originality, especially in the inspired 'adagio', that creates a special, unique atmosphere. The performance leaves nothing to be desired; I'm familiar with the Gerald Robbins versions of this and the 2nd Concerto which are good, but I'm glad that all four of Reinecke's piano concerti are now available in up-to-date sound. I heard the masterful 3rd for the first time recently; now I'm ready to acquaint myself with the 4th.
