@@marcelotortelli800 Not to nitpick but: 1) it was helped that Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media category was only established in 1988. I believe many songs would have achieved that stat before if there was a separate category for film tracks at the time. 2) this song won Golden Globe and Oscar in 1989 and Grammy in 1990 so not the same year. 3) "The Way We Were", "Evergreen" and "You Light Up My Life" all won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Song of the Year each. "Evergreen" also won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Barbra Streisand. 4) "Last Dance" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for Donna Summer. 5) both "Up Where We Belong" and "The Time of My Life" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, for Jennifer Warnes with Joe Cocker and Bill Medley, respectively. 6) "Flashdance... What a Feeling!" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Irene Cara. So Carly Simon was actually far from the first one.

Always profoundly sad when I see an older movie with the Towers in the background. I remember the morning they were "hit" by planes. I was getting ready for a job interview, watching the news, when they showed the atrocity live. I thought it was "fake," because it just couldn't be real - looked like a movie scene it was THAT horrendous. I went to the job interview, actually got the job, don't remember why because I don't even know what my responses were to the questions they asked - I was just devastated by what I'd seen. Sorry, long answer to your question, but it always breaks my heart when I see an old movie with the Towers & all I "see" in my memory, are people jumping to their death from the Towers.

I loved this from the very moment I first heard it. It is, I think, a secular spiritual anthem about people navigating life, coming through the fog, and waking to a new dawn in their lives - about personal developement and faith. It always called to me even before I began my own faith path. It prefigured that. It is part of why I think a spiritual faith can be just as beneficial as a religious one. Maybe this song helped me. And finally I have to say that if the sight of the wonderful Carly Simon standing on the back of a ferry and declaiming those opening lyrics does not move you, nothing will. Thank you Ms Simon

@@hugowilliams1988Now, people stay in their little "circle of friends" and most of the time, all you see is the top of their heads. It sickens me to the core to live in a society like this. Back then, society was actually a people society if you know what I mean. One would call a friend or friends and meet up and hang out together without phone distractions. All conversations were constantly interactive. I really miss all that. Those days have been destroyed with technology. Don't get me wrong, technology is a very useful tool and comes in handy. Google maps is a good example of this. It's when people allow technology to take over their lives to the point to where they become very disconnected by others around them. In February 1989, I took my Mom out to dinner & this movie for her birthday. In April 1987, we lost my father when I was 17, a Senior in High School. My parents were 1 month shy of their 23rd wedding anniversary. I was now a Sophomore in college, and my mom remembers this birthday every year. Our lives were always filled with difficulties. My parents before they met, after they wed, after having children, my father growing sicker, alcoholism, my getting sick, and his demise. She eventually met, and married the man she was meant to be with from the beginning. She is happier than she’s ever been in her entire life, and he’s been in my life longer than my father. She finally got what she deserved, and I couldn’t be happier for her. I just wish I could have done more than just give her a memory of a dinner & movie after all of these years being 54 now…

In his autobiography, "Lucky Jim", her ex-husband, Jim Hart, describes the collaboration he and Carly had in writing the lyrics to this song. She thanked him for writing the "best lines" of the song in her Oscar acceptance speech. Not sure why he wouldn't have been given a writing credit.

Let the river run Let all the dreamers wake the nation Come, the New Jerusalem Silver cities rise The morning lights the streets that lead them And sirens call them on with a song It's asking for the taking Trembling, shaking Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters We the great and small Stand on a star And blaze a trail of desire Through the darkening dawn It's asking for the taking Come run with me now The sky is the colour of blue You've never even seen In the eyes of your lover Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters It's asking for the taking Trembling, shaking Oh, my heart is aching We're coming to the edge Running on the water Coming through the fog Your sons and daughters Let the river run (Let the river run) Let all the dreamers (let all the dreamers) Wake the nation (wake the nation) Come, the New Jerusalem

Carly Simon has always been one of my favorite recording artists. In this video not only can you hear this amazing song, you can see how she was at the peak of her beauty and just how alive she was. The music and the emotions are so powerful and wonderful and engaging, and sometimes I think she gets overlooked because she didn’t really do a lot of tours. She had stage fright and I think that some people don’t even know how amazing she is or 🎉that this song was awesome. I’m just thrilled that this video exists on KZbin so I can look at it whenever I want to and remember how amazingly fantastic she was in her heyday.

I watched this last night. Still a wonderful film. And this song couldn’t be more perfect for this movie. Nichols and Simon had a great working relationship with three films - “Heartburn”, “Working Girl” and “Postcards From the Edge” between 1986-1990. Became the first artist to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy for one song composed, written and sung by a single artist.
