1. Always, always, always, get temporary international insurance coverage. 2. Do not go with third party vendors. Go with an excursion that's sponsored by the ship. 3. Buy both a passport and a passport card. So if you lose one document you have the other. I may have my passport in my locker, but I always carry my passport card. 4. Thank you for your videos. I like that you are straightforward and true to yourself and others.

Pass cards are not good for use on planes for international flights. If you drive to Canada or Mexico they can be used at the border, but not fly into the county. With that being said, I also have both a passport and pass card.

I hope they pull through and get sorted out. My son became ill on a Norwegian cruise vacay in Mexico, his GF called, the medical provider on the ship spoke with me to describe his symptoms. It was gastroenteritis/food poisoning i think. The doctor stated that he could stay in Mexico at the hospital for further evaluation. Spoke to my son-and did my own assessment. I told the doctor to continue with IV fluids, keep my baby on that ship, he will be fine. My baby was just fine. Mothers and Nurses❤ know what to do. Just back from a cruise-I buy insurance from that lesson. Its not even expensive to purchase.

I just got back from being on Carnival: Mardi Gras. I was so surprised at how many people cruised with just a birth certificate. That line to go through customs was crazy long for people traveling with birth certificates. In this day and age, I think it's irresponsible to travel outside the country without your passport. We have seen so many different scenarios to keep setting yourself up for failure like that. You are so right that people will spend their money on excursions, drink packages, and overpriced items at the ports, but they won't get a $80 passport that last 10 years.

Travel insurance is very important - a lesson I learned the hard way back in 2010. While abroad, I became ill and was hospitalized for 4 days. Between lab tests, treatment, and room cost, I incurred a bill of close to $12,000 USD. Luckily, I had access to money enough to pay. The interesting part is, prior to traveling and while booking the trip, I was offered the option of purchasing health coverage for the trip but declined to take up the offer - pretty much me trying to save $150. That decision ended up costing my pocket just about twelve thousand dollars. Now, I do not travel without it. On the subject of bike: When I was 8 years old, my oldest brother put me on the back of a bike he borrowed and was riding. At the end of the ride he said, "promise me never to ride a bike when you grow up." His explanation was that, whereas cars have sides to partially shield you during an accident, bikes provide no such protection, and riders almost always take the worse of accidents. I am now a grandfather, and to this day I have never set foot on another bike.

Cover More Travel Insurance is brilliant and well worth the price, maybe a higher premium but worth every cent when needed. Make sure you disclose any medical conditions while taking your policy out. With Cover More you can get a free SIM Card for your phone. It costs you nothing if you need help from your insurer while overseas. Have an accident, they help and in many cases make arrangements for you. Including changing your bookings for flights home and ambulance transfers. When I fractured my femur, I even had a travel nurse allocated to care for me on the flight home. Which was great as he was able to give me a blood thinning injection just prior too departure and sedate me on the 7/8 hour flight home. People need to stop being stupid when travelling overseas, accidents do happen. You can catch a virus while away for which you may need hospital care. If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford to travel. It's really a no brainer. As for a passport. When we cruise, we have always required passports. With Princess Cruises, they take your passport on boarding and it's returned the night before disembarkation. The trick is too always carry a photocopy of your passport with you. When you board in a foreign country you have too have a passport. You need one to fly out of your country. Why are people acting so brain dead. Don't forget too read the fine print.

And now their mother wants to make it seem like they are special and the US needs to help them get home. I'm sorry, and this may sound mean, but this is no one else's fault but their own and now they need to figure it out. There are plenty of warning signs saying that if you go to another country, you probably should have a passport. You also should get insurance, and you should book excursions with cruise line. Yes,yes I always buy a separate Health Insurance policy that covers me in the countries I’m travelling and make sure it is Primary for the specific dates. Most US health insurances donor cover you for travel abroad. Many are comprehensive and cover medical evacuation and transport back to USA and some cover a family member to join you, reparation of remains , etc. Considering how much you spend on these trips that piece of mind is worth it. It’s easy to get sick on travel like travelers diarrhea , dehydration , etc. I think this conversation is important for people hear.

Your fear is the product of xenophobia, manipulation and ignorance. Just like mexicans that are afraid to go to the USA because they think anyone can mass shoot people there, even in schools or movie theaters. And I bet you would fin it impossible that mexicans have those fears because you might think your country is superior, but it is not, is just different. Better in some things worst in others. Millions of mexicans live just fine in Mexico. Only a minority suffer just like in the US and only a minority migrate just like in the USA. I have Been on many carnival cruises that have stopped in Cozumel. The cruise ship normally posts in their daily paper that they advise against people renting the scooters I have also seen fellow passengers injured when renting the scooters. Several times they have returned to the ship with broken legs. Get that passport and get that insurance it is worth every penny.

I thought one definitely appreciate how diverse your channel is the information you share with your audience. This is the type of stuff that people need to know before they go away as many of your videos. One of the greatest things about your channel is that you report about the positive and negative things and most people don't. That is a great asset to you and whoever critiques it is just illogical.

Make sure someone you trust back in your own country has a copy of your passport and medical travel insurance. Create a emergence contact card and carry that in your wallet. Plus keep in mind that some travel insurance don’t cover high risk activities. But they do have some that do. Make sure you read those comparisons very carefully. The High risk actives travel insurances are much more. That’s the kind of insurance you would get if you’re going to do crazy things like ride a scooter or go bungee jumping etc. Also, if you have a pre-existing condition, you must purchase your travel insurance within 10 days of your down payment for vacation. Otherwise, the insurance won’t cover your pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. I usually just take my medication with me if I’m late on purchasing the insurance.

I purchased travel insurance for a flight once and was told that they only reimburse you for expenses you end up paying due to an emergency. So we can't assume that all or any travel insurance will pay for anything up front when an emergency situation comes up during traveling. It's ideal to save money for emergencies and yes get your passport. Good video as people need to be aware.

That was based on the policy you purchased. A policy with primary medical coverage is what was required for their situation. It pays out first, not after other policies pay first nor after they pay upfront and then submit for reimbursement.

The cost of the passport is next to nothing when you break it down. About $13 a year!! It's good for 10 YEARS!! Worth every penny! Travel insurance, the same. When you figure any visit to an ER in any country is astronomical in comparison with the few hundred dollars it cost to give you the coverage you need for situations like this. I wish both families the best in this sad situation. 😢🙏 Thanks Jay for this important content.

I always travel with a passport and travel insurance. I also always make sure I take my passport or a copy of it when getting off the ships. A family member travelled to Italy recently and were given a hard time because they did not have their passports on them! When me and my husband first started cruising/traveling he didn't think it was necessary. But after I wound up in a California hospital after falling and breaking my wrist we always make sure we have additional travel insurance on top of our regular insurance. Also, I have seen so many people slip on the ships and go down. You never know! I have had friends that rented scooters and were quite lucky they only came home with basically road burn and bruises after being involved in an accident. People that don't travel as much don't realize how narrow and winding some of these islands roads are! I hope these ladies are going to be alright and mama gets them home.

I was in Cozumel recently as well... solo and I rode a Jetski and probably got it up to 50-60mph... nothing happened and I did not fall off... but if I fell I could have easily broke some stuff and had a really bad time. My previous trip I also did a 4x4 offroad excursion in Cozumel (with a cruise)... again everything went well but I'm not sure my health insurance would cover me if things went wrong I completely forgot about the health insurance thing. I'm also not sure why the cruise let them go to Mexico without a passport, when I cruised with Virgin a passport was mandatory. I also thought about renting a car, but then decided against it... a Taxi is much more relaxing in Cozumel.

This was my 4th cruise and I really will get my passport next time. I also had a good friend that had a baby get sick on the cruise and her and her hubby did not have passports and the ship made them get off because he was sick, he couldn’t fly to the next port and continue the cruise he had to hang out In mexico for a few days trying to get an emergency passport. Hi J. You are positive all the time. Some Americans have problem when you speak the truth. Everyone knows you should have a passport and Insurance when traveling. If you are an American traveling in the Caribbean or Mexico you do not have to show it. However when you get off the ship you should have one just in case something happens and you have to fly back home. I had a friend on a 14 nights Caribbean cruise who was very sick on RCCL ship last December 2022, and she had to be taken to the hospital in Martinique and spent 10 days there before her return to the US, she had Insurance which she was reluctant to take, however, I told her, you do not know what can happen and you have to fly home. I was glad I force her to take it, because that's what save her. The bill on the ship and the Hospital was nearly $70.000.
