Here is what happened: The mom setup the entire cruise and was listed as a passenger in the cabin (she prob paid as well). Mom did not have any intention of going on the cruise. This cruise was for her son and his "young adult" girlfriend. When the mom was a no-show and the "young adults" did not meet the age requirements to sail/purchase, the booking was classified as a "NO SHOW". This is why RC had them wait in the terminal until the end of boarding - to see if the booking passenger would arrive. Why did RC not tell them this? I bet they did. TikToc is about views and attention - and the mom is getting her moneys worth - LOL

This also happens many times in the hotel industry - where the parent books the room for the kid (prom night) and the kid has a problem when checking in.

No another person co.mmented who knew what happened... She booked and paid for the tickets with her listed as the boarding passenger. She didn't go, she got the tickets for her son and young adult girlfriend. So they put them to the side until all the boarding was done to see if the boarding passenger (the mom in this video) was going to arrive. She never did so they denied boarding... The fact she's trying to say "they didn't give them a reason" is a load of bull...

My guess is that they were both under 21 (Mom repeatedly mentioned that they are young and never started their ages) and not allowed to sail without at least one person over 21. Mom booked the reservation as if she were going and SHE was the no show, so kids were denied boarding. The room would have gone to someone else through the upgrade program as soon as the room was deemed available (due to the no show). If the ship were truly oversold, they would have been compensated long before getting to the port. Like you, I'm anxiously awaiting more details on this!

There's two sides to a story. I have a feeling the son is not giving out all the information. To be denied boarding even though customer service received the email from the travel agent? The story had oil and vinegar in it. I might say they both screwed up royally. How do you leave medication and money in your luggage? Especially if they traveled often. Secondly of the time frame is right. Royal were denying them from the beginning. Giving them 4 hours to take all the luggage off the ship.

I believe that there's more to this and they were under 21. My family took a cruise on RC years ago. My children were 19 and 12 at the time. Upon attempting to reboard the ship they were flagged and had to wait off to the side until I checked in first. You have to be 21 to travel solo with RC. Unfortunately, there are some who feel that the rules don't apply to them.

That would be irrelevant. The policy is the cruise line's policy, not a law. People are adults at 18 in the US and Canada too. But you still have to be 21 to travel solo on RC.

I book group cruises for college students for another cruise line. We have a great time on our trips. AND, sometimes, we have to shift students around to make sure each cabin has the required adult. If the mom was a no show and the kids were underage, this would make sense why they were denied.

My BS meter is going off the charts. This mom doesn’t have the whole story, & is clearly being mislead by her son. This can’t be the first time he sold her a crazy story & she believed it disregarding common sense. I’m sure there won’t be a “part 2”. The “ no show” couldn’t be a possible explanation as it would be far to easy to prove with phone history gps, the luggage being boarded & then removed etc. I bet the son is shocked his mom posted this & now has to make up more lies.

I always have my meds and money in my personal or carry on bags when traveling. Never put them in your checked luggage. This is quite unbelievable what happened here, you can't just be denied boarding on a fully paid cruise without reason!! If they paid with a credit card they can dispute it.

They were likely under 21, so the mom booked it in her name to have an adult in the booking. When the mom (the adult) did not show, the kids could not be let on board alone. And because she did not show up it was a no show :)

Here is the first problem….why is the mother involved? If her child is an adult and he made the booking through a travel agent he should be dealing with the travel agent who deals with Royal Caribbean….but we hear nothing from these “young adults”…every young adult I know immediately posts on Instagram or Tik Tok when they have problems or at the very least takes video. Someone gave the real reason for what happened here - she appears to have booked herself on as a passenger with no intention of travelling, then she obviously didn't show up and the two youngsters tried to blag their way on without her. She was a no-show and so the whole party were denied boarding. That makes me think the stars of the show here were under 21 and Royal Caribbean might not let unaccompanied under-21s travel, and she was to be their required adult to make the booking work.

I will say this, if someone is denied from sailing on RC, the Pier Coordinator or supervisor should give you a letter explaining the denial and on that letter it gives you a number to call. Also, if they paid for spas, dinner packages,etc., those monies are refunded to you as well as port fees and prepaid gratuities.

Royal Carribean did a similar thing to me and my family in the fall of 2008. I booked directly with Royal Carribean Cruiselines. Each and everytime, prior to our departure, that I called with questions and concerns the company gave me false information. When we got to the terminal in Miami, more lies. I have always sailed Carnival. We finally decided to give Royal Carribean a try. It was the most expensive vacation I've ever paid for and it was the worst I've ever had. They did so many things wrong from the time of booking to debarkation. And yes, they even stopped us from leaving the ship due entirely to their screw-up. I will never sail with them again. Their customer service absolutely sucks. I was never able to get a full explanation to their actions and they never took any kind of responsibility for ruining my vacation nor the vast amount of needless stress they imposed. And 15 years later, I still passionately hate them. When the subject comes up, I tell ppl how horrible they were to me and my family and I will continue to for as long as I live.

Definitely would like to see a part 2. In my career I'm been in a position to have to investigate complaints. Always 3 sides to every story. Alot of red flags in her story. Is it possible the Wonder was overbooked? Definitely possible, but every instance I've ever heard of a cruise ship being overbooked they make offers to passengers to cancel, usually full refund plus extras/perks. Claims her son is a seasoned cruiser, but pack their money and meds in a checked luggage. This tik tok has a lot of details, but then leaves out important stuff like the sons age. Not really sure why the TA would need to get involved (unless they messed up). We just got off the Wonder a few weeks ago and it's a Sunday cruise, I would expect them to have difficulty getting a hold of the TA on a Sunday. Definitely much more to the story not being told. Gut feel is something came up on passengers.

I do not believe that the cruise line would say sorry, you can't board without an explanation of some kind. If they were unjustly denied boarding, they should immediately get an attorney to do their talking. I would.

@@ashasun6620 I’ve done over 50 RC cruises. The last ten years you pre-board on computer and it tells you if any issues. Something just doesn’t sound right here. If they had pre-boarded etc., no way they’d be denied. Once you pre-board, you walk up, show them passport and voila, you’re on the boat. I’m assuming nothing bad in luggage like alcohol or prohibited items.

Yeah. My first few trips solo at 21, I was afraid that someone would steal the backpack I was wearing with all my money, so I put 90% of it in my checked luggage "for safety." Kids do the dumbest things because they just don't know all the facts. I was lucky and nothing was lost or stolen. Jay, you are right. Let the lawyer handle it, and explain everything to the credit card company where the tickets were paid for. Maybe with the whole story and pictures and the orange note that the credit card company might entertain their dispute.

Never, Never, NEVER pack your Medications with checked-in baggage!!!! When it comes to one's medication, not having it could end in a catastrophic way!

Their room could have been given to another passenger at any time during the cruise if something was wrong with another cabin. Plus, with all of the "mystery", this could have been a lie.

Definitely need a followup by Mr ShipLife. One thing I hear a lot on another YT channel is that a cruiser signed up for some extra, like a drink package or spa treatment, and didn't pay for it in time. Sucks that a cruise line can cancel your entire cruise for such a mistake, but I guess they do that. If that were the case wouldn't there be a notification to the TA and/or cruiser? I'm not saying this is what happened here, but would be consistent with what we know.

What I’m learning from all of these “The cruise line gave us $3 dollars back on our $6,000 trip” is that whatever cruise line it is unless everything goes perfectly you are kind of screwed. Aside from having a fear of being stuck in the middle middle of the ocean, I think that’s the biggest thing stopping me from ever going on a cruise. Regardless of this specific incident was on the passengers or not , all the cruise lines seem shady in one way or another.

RC refunded 1/2 of my taxes and gratuities instead of all of it. Said it was coming of course I haven’t received it - it’s been 2yrs now. I paid for a balcony and upgrades. The only good thing my son was able to enjoy the room. Out of group of 3 only 1 cruised. 👎🏽

There are so many holes here; one of them is that according to the Mom "they have cruised before many times" anyone that has cruised just once knows that medications, money, and valuables are always with you and never checked in" whatever it is it is big and it was not up to the agent to release it. I agree better to go to social media, a lawyer is better and depending of the outcome go to social media, otherwise if there is anything embarrassing it will be shameful. we shall see. thanks for the story.

Absolutly. Thats the biggest red flag of all. Putting money and meds in a checked bag is a bad rookie mistake, but anyone who has cruised before knows it may be some time before checked bags are delivered. If I had to take a guess, they misbehaved on a previous RCCL cruise , got banned, booked with a TA with a false ID and got caught, and then lied to the Mom.

Overbooking has definitely happened on Royal Caribbean. Not denying that. However, seasoned travelers know that if you don't like your room when you get on to immediately go to Guest Services to ask for either a different room or pay for an upgrade. If the ship is not 100% capacity, Guest Services is usually happy to move you to a room you will like better. It could be the "new couple" went this route.

Look up reasons for someone to be denied boarding. There may be a reason listed. I used to work embarkation day from time to time. I only saw one time when someone was refused boarding. Under age and they were told the reason. We may never hear the rest of the story if it may embarrass them.

The $250 refund immediately received was probably the automated port taxes and fees portion. I suspect through the escalations process there will be refunds, FCC, and compensation. The good news is they have a travel agent, who can go directly to their BDM and basically jump 4 tiers of support up the ladder immediately.

Depends on the reason for denied boarding. If, for instance, someone had weed on them, then the denial was justified and the travel advisor would be extremely foolish to go to bat for them on a refund.

That's strange about the "The Key". I bought the "The Key" on my last cruise. With it, you don't leave your bag when you arrive at the terminal, it doesn't work that way. You take your bags with you on the ship, there is a designated deck that you leave your bag and then it is taken to your cabin. When I did it, I received a letter that to go to deck 5 outside the main dining room and leave your bags there. But you don't leave it at the terminal. That strange that they left it there. I think that they overbooked the ship, they had an expensive cabin, and they gave away to an older couple or a family. You always have to travel with the confirmation that it's sent to you after final payment is made. I had a little trouble when I arrived at check in but I showed my confirmation and then suddenly they found my name. I didn't think anything of it until just now but they try to play games but now with me. I had an amazing time. Always take your confirmation with you. If they had it, it wouldn't have been a problem. I was on Freedom of the Seas.

I saw something similar where 4 passengers were pulled off a flight because the online agency they purchased their tickets from was somehow not authorized to sell the tickets. They had paid and everything, and I think that they had used that agency before - and were able to do so the next day, too.

Receipts are the key. Interesting that the TA was needed immediately. I seem to remember some cases a while back where there were some crooked TAs that took money and never paid the cruise line. Or maybe the TA used the wrong personal info and the people did not catch it early enough and that can be grounds for denial. @@jahbern At this point we do not know anything. All we have is what the lady said she was told by her son and there is a reason it is called hearsay evidence. On a cruise last spring we were behind some folks that had an issue with mismatched information. They got past the at the door folks who questioned it but passed them on through security and up to the actual check-in desk where last we saw them they were going to a separate area for more processing. Lost track of them so I do not know if they got on ship but never saw them during cruise.

You wouldn’t need to call a phone number to find out your passport doesn’t match the name on your booking. That’s why I mean something else is going on- either the guy is lying to his mom and he gave the TA his nickname instead of his real name or something, OR he is lying to his mom because he was denied boarding for a reason he doesn’t want to share. No matter what, the passenger knows WHY he was denied boarding. He just won’t tell anyone. I wonder why? He certainly doesn’t have to, but he might consider asking his mom to simmer down if that’s the case.

The only other thing I can think of is age requirement, which is stated in RC's policy, but if that were the case unless they were both under 21 and a 21-year-old was supposed to travel with them and didn't , I mean it's plausible, it's also plausible that RC just messed up. The main issue is travel insurance too. GET TRAVEL INSURANCE. IT'S NOT JUST FOR ACCCIDENTS AND ILLNESSES.

I don't think travel insurance would have helped here. Without documentation of denied boarding, overbooked, etc, insurance isn't going to pay. Officially the cancelation reason was "no show", which insurance doesn't cover, unless maybe "cancel for any reason" was purchased.

There may have been an "ADULT" on the original booking or the T/A may have used some manipulation to create the original booking and at boarding time, the boy and his girlfriend did not meet the minimum age requirement for being allowed to sail. Like many others have said, there is MUCH more to this story than what the Tik-Tocking Mommy has put out there.

If the cruise were actually overbooked, they would be refunded. For sure. But that’s not how overbooking works. Overbooked cruises are sorted out BEFORE they sail, not on the day of. Can you imagine the workload for the port if a cruise line made the port agents handle all of this? No way. Something is wrong on the client end.

In August we had an RC cruise on the Wonder and we too had the key primarily because of the luncheon, disembarkation breakfast and dietary needs and of course speedy embarckation. until we got to the end when they wouldn't accept our notarized consent to travel with a minor-my granddaughter because it was not their form which we never were we told we needed to use. Granddaughter in tears, on a Sunday afternoon when her father was also on a trip to get their form completed and notarized, Hours later got on the ship. RC shuttle said we'd have our luggage immediately delivered to our room but room steward delivered about 8pm.after asking him for the luggage No specialty lunch, buffet because we were in shorts. I totally believe this mother. First and last time on RC

Ive sailed many times on Royal Caribbean many times. This last time when I was paying my next cruise port fees to hold my next free cruise the girl told me that the company treats the workers horrible. When I got home and had 30 days to get my free cruise that I spent thousands on in the casino. When I was on the phone booking it we got disconnected from them when I called back they said it was too late to getall the things I was supposed to get free. I was down grated terribly. They wouldn’t budge to help me. I’ll never cruise with them again. Plus there way over rated and I’ve had much better food on other cruise lines. Good luck and you might need a great lawyer.Oh and we never got our 250 each for port and tax fees.🤬

RC would not do this as it was explained to us by Mom. They would not hurt their reputation by doing this. I would be willing to bet that they did indeed have a good reason for their actions and did indeed explain it to the couple at the time, but possibly because it’s embarrassing or they didn’t want to get in trouble, the couple told Mom this story and she fell for it hook, line and sinker. Or perhaps they told Mom the truth and she is going along with this and wanting her TikTok clicks and perhaps trying to get something from RC out of it. If it were my kids, and this legitimately happened as she said, TikTok is not the place I would air my grievance…why is this even relevant on TikTok if not for the clicks or attention? If this was a real incident that happened exactly as Mom explained, I would be on the horn with the TA and RC in a heartbeat. I would be after every one I could for an explanation, not on TikTok letting social media hounds know about it. There is way more that RC told those kids. They either lied to Mom or Mom knows the truth and is trying to make the most of it and grabbing her 15 mins of fame. If it was a true RC mess up, they would have gotten a lot more than $250 and a missing piece of luggage. I can’t wait to hear the outcome of this one.

Well, basically, her son needs to tell her the whole story or they need to contact the travel agent, he would know why they couldn’t get up there. I mean his name was flagged, somebody’s lying and why would you keep all your possessions somewhere else? They tell you that over and over, it is in the contract that you signed, something seems very shady and she’s gonna believe every damn thing he says, that doesn’t make any sense and only refunding $250 of a $4000 trip. Very hard to believe. I bet anything they missed their cruise because the travel agent booked it wrong or they misunderstood when they were supposed to leave it could’ve been for the week before there’s no telling that travel agent owes him money, though there was some kind of misinterpretation between them.

I’ve cruised Royal Caribbean twice (I’m a loyal Carnival cruiser). The first time everything was good. The second time (August 2023), the staff were not friendly at all, except the wait staff in the main dining room. I was very surprised!! The staff acted like they were miserable!!! This includes our cabin attendant. We had to find him and we asked for our cabin to be cleaned around 6. He came in the morning. We saw him MAYBE 3 times the whole 5 days of the cruise. Not sure if I’m going to go on RC again. This story is crazy!!! Not telling them why they were denied boarding is totally unacceptable!!!! I hope this couple is refunded more than the $250!!

I have never heard of Royal telling clients they were overbooked AT THE PORT. That just doesn’t happen - for this exact reason. It would absolutely blow up on social media, and rightly so. But even if it DID happen because of some major mixup, Royal would have apologized profusely, given them a refund and possibly a future credit, AND helped them pay for a hotel. That is what they do when they cancel in advance. So why wouldn’t they do it in this case? Because there’s something else going on.

NDL got me in 2018. I got there early and had to wait to board for a room. I ended up waiting for hours and was second to last person on the ship. They overbooked and appeared to have given me someone else's room because the welcome letter had someone else name on it. Out of the 7 cruises I have taken, that was the only one I can say I boarded furious. Thankfully, that first night was legendary 😅

I sailed a week and on the return a woman had 2 kids and was crying instead of getting off the ship. I asked if I could help her somehow. She said that FBI came on the ship and just arrested her husband for a very old warrant for him. A crime prior to her knowing him. She was told to wait there, but that "she wouldn't be seeing her husband again for a long time". She had no idea about a warrant out for him. She was clueless. But I kept thinking HOW was he allowed to sail in the 1st place? I mean, what kind of wanted criminal was he? These "young people" were screwed over because RC got more money for that cabin, that's my thought.

It’ll be interesting to see what the whole story is when/ if there is ever an end. I have a feeling that it will be very different than their serial killer of a mother is telling, IMO.

Yeah, and throwing the TA and third party under the bus with the “overbooking” claim is just nonsense. None of us can book a room or GTY category that isn’t available, for starters, and if Royal oversold those GTYs they would have notified the TA and the client weeks or months ago. That’s why the PIF date is so far out - so they can manipulate inventory.
